to think my colleague was thoughtless and ruined my lunch?

Yesterday the canteen at work was closed so two work colleagues volunteered to drive and pick up lunch (we work in an area where it would take 15 minutes to walk to the nearest cafe and only have half an hour lunch.)

It was decided they would go to KFC and McDonalds. I had spent an hour previously complaining that I had got food poisoning last time I went to KFC. So I ordered from McDonalds and said to my colleague, please just get me the American burger of the week.

My colleague returned back with a Louisiana burger which is a chicken burger! When I said I had been complaining about getting food poisoning from KFC that it was common sense that I wouldn't want a chicken burger.

Their excuse was - they had other peoples lunches to get, I hadn't been specific and that they hadn't really listened when I complained about my food poisoning.

healthy, not health

rinabean · 09/05/2014 13:45

It's not even reasonable to avoid kfc forever and ever tbh (there are so many, surely you ate there many times before without getting ill too). However if they'd got you kfc when you asked to not have it they would have been wrong. If you can't eat chicken any more, say that. Such a weird aibu. Not having chicken makes as much sense as not having any burgers ever. Except you did want a burger.

DebbieOfMaddox · 09/05/2014 13:46

"it's common sense that if I was no longer could eat KFC because of food poisoning then you wouldn't go out and buy chicken"

No, it isn't. It's not even vaguely in the same universe as common sense.

Bunbaker · 09/05/2014 13:47

Not everyone thinks as laterally as you do OP.

Goldmandra · 09/05/2014 13:52

Not at all.

When I'd had food poisoning from KFC I continued to eat chicken in all forms. I just couldn't eat KFC again. It's not that I think I'm more likely to get food poisoning from there than any other fast food outlet. I just couldn't enjoy the experience for thinking about the last time I had it.

Logic would say that you don't want to eat food from somewhere that has made you ill in the past. It wouldn't say you could never eat that specific type of food again from anywhere.

Changebagsandgladrags · 09/05/2014 14:21

What did you have for lunch today? Chicken nuggets?

FunLovinBunster · 09/05/2014 14:22

WHO ATE THE FUCKING BURGER?
wHO ATE THE FUCKING BURGER?
WHO ATE THE FUCkING BURGER?
(Let's hope they didn't get the shits....)

catsmother · 09/05/2014 14:32

You're being ridiculous.

I can understand the reluctance to go back to KFC ..... but from recounting that tale your colleague was somehow supposed to assume that from now on you don't want any form of chicken, no matter where it comes from ? ... which is effectively what you're saying because you've got all upset over this McD's Louisiana burger ?

Don't you see that a normal person who was over the top who'd been turned off ALL chicken would have asked for a burger, but "not a chicken burger" or some such.

Your colleague wasn't "thoughtless" at all.

ilovesooty · 09/05/2014 14:37

I can't begin to imagine how unpopular you must be at work.

What an utterly ridiculous thread.

pianodoodle · 09/05/2014 14:41

What kind of financial adviser goes out to buy a emperor burger and comes back with a cheese burger?!

to think my colleague was thoughtless and ruined my lunch?
motherinferior · 09/05/2014 14:43

This is actually quite a reassuring thread as it demonstrates that most people on MN are in fact quite reasonable.

iK8 · 09/05/2014 14:47

I bet 50p the op ate the burger but whinged about it for two hours without drawing breath.

Fullpleatherjacket · 09/05/2014 14:47

I hope you were a bit more gracious to the colleagues who thought they were doing you a favour than you've been on here talking about it.

RahRahRasputin · 09/05/2014 14:50

Someone will be along soon to tell all the previous posters off for not being more sympathetic.

Come on ladies, let's play nice eh? Smile OP, I'm so sorry the other posters have been so mean. It's threads like this that give MN such a bad reputation.

Last time I had a kfc, in about 1989, it gave me the shits.
Last time I had a mcd's chicken burger circa 1997 I got food poisoning.

Moral of the story?
Bring a vegetarian packed lunch.

ArmyDad · 09/05/2014 15:02

I honestly love exactly these threads, where the OP has an issue that makes no sense but insist that they're in the right. Keep digging OP

LiberalLibertine · 09/05/2014 15:05

Also turns out a lot of people have had food poisoning from kfc.

Op, don't chance of enlightening us as to wether you ate the fucking burger??

I won't be able to sleep you know, just plain inconsiderate.

Mckayz · 09/05/2014 15:06

YABU!!!!!!

They did exactly what you asked.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 09/05/2014 15:06

Why didn't you just ask for any burger as long as it wasn't chicken?
