Man on my facebook reckons he needs a day off work because of emotional stress, I said he should have one if he needs it and asked the reason why.

He said the footy results.

he is being deadly serious and saying he's suffering from 'football related sadness' and that he feels so alone and upset, he is crying.

Now I fully understand mental illness having suffered/suffering from it myself... but really?

Maybe a sign of something underlying you may say but I've known him for a good few years and football really does seem to get him down when his team loses!

Anyone else glad they don't have a partner who is obsessed with the football?!

Me too Tequila - loving the anti-racist banana thing going on - did you hear Mumsnet are supporting with the launch of their first cook-book "Top Bananas!" Wink

KenDoddsDadsDog · 07/05/2014 13:51

Suttonmum1 - I wanted Liverpool to win for the exact same reason. JFT96

Comingoutofmycage, just looking forward to championship now and hoping things are sorted out. Still be nice to finish with a win though. /0\0/0\

deemented · 07/05/2014 17:37

Ha. Good luck with that you two Wink

Saying that though, we'll probably see you the season after next... Monk's been appointed full time manager Hmm

partialderivative · 07/05/2014 18:18

deemented my mother uses that phrase and it sickens me every time. Try saying that to someone whose loved one has just died. Go on, dare you. hmm

This is in reference to an ironic quote from Bill Shankly from several decades ago:
"Football is not a matter of life or death, it's more important that that"

CrackleandPop I think most balanced people can cope with that. No need to feel sickened.

(Go on, I dare you to ask if a loved one of mine has just died. hmm)

I loved the banana reply. Dani alves is a very good footballer, he doesn't deserve that kind of abuse. Well, nobody does, footballer or anybody! Can't believe there are still people like that in this day and age! These "supporters" also forget, they have black players on their team too, I'll bet they don't throw bananas at them! Ridiculous!!
Hoping for a little FRH in this house tonight! My team and my mums husbands team are both playing! Need them both to win!!!

EverythingsDozy · 07/05/2014 18:21

Not playing each other, obviously!!!

I've been watching my team with my Dad since I was a child - 28 years now. It has been a routine for all these years, an opportunity to travel around the country to various places, to celebrate unlikely wins over bigger teams. As a socially awkward child, with no musical talent or sporting ability it gave me a hobby and an opportunity to make friends, I had something to talk about and focus on.

This has continued into adulthood, I'm still not good at interacting with people in social situations, but I have a hobby where I can get out of the house and meet people that I have something in common with.

On Saturday my team got relegated out of the league. It felt like all the hopes I'd had since I was 9 years old about one day being a good team has gone away, and I was upset about it. I realise its not life or death now, but certainly in my teenage years it would have felt like it was.

And for the record, my two brain cells have managed to achieve two degrees so I'm not stupid. I don't understand the angst filled posts on here about a tesco delivery being late or someone without young children parking in a parent and child parking space, but life would be boring if we all got upset about the same things.

Lovely post Spartak

I bet the days you spend with your dad are really special

Spartak · 07/05/2014 18:47

We've been all over the country Partial. Random places like Lincoln and Macclesfield which I would not otherwise have had reason to go to, as well as the big cities.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 07/05/2014 19:44

I have FRS . Please please let us get a point....

EverythingsDozy · 07/05/2014 19:47

Kendodd - Sunderland WILL get a point and they WILL be staying in the premier league!!! They will be the second team to be bottom at Christmas and remain in the PL. I swear if they don't I'll eat a cushion! They 100million% don't deserve to be where they are!!!

As a lifelong Spurs supporter I haven't had much to have been excited about for a very long time but I am still, as they say, TTIFD

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 07/05/2014 20:45

My mum was caned at school (for the first and only time) for suffering from football related sadness during assembly.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 07/05/2014 21:23

EverythingsDozy · 07/05/2014 21:40

dementedma · 07/05/2014 21:49

Familiar with this crap. Dh is Everton obsessed. Actually football obsessed. Any game, any level. And this year we have the fucking world cup to fill the gap in between seasons.deep joy.

Ledkr · 07/05/2014 21:54

Ok, that's it then.
Second place it is for us. Well done though, pity they fucked up at the end.

ilovesooty · 07/05/2014 21:55

Very happy Manchester City fan here. Just need to get the league won on Sunday.

And I can't wait for the World Cup to start.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 07/05/2014 21:56
