Sorry I know I'm probably being unreasonable but why is EVERYWHERE closed?! I really hate Easter. (To me it's a a day for kids and religious people)

Yanbu.

We're caravanning. Its raining so outside stuff is off. Everywhere else shut. Packing up and going home a day early.

Yanbu it's bloody raining cats and dogs outside all the shops are shut and DS yelling for his daily frozen fix!! Bah humbug

nicename · 20/04/2014 12:12

I'm not sure what you are supposed to be doing. It's a bit of a 'waiting' day isn't it? Friday and Monday are the "main events" whereas today...

I don't really have family left who 'do' easter amymore. We had an egg hunt this morning but the rest of the day is pretty much a usual sunday.

AreYouFeelingLucky · 20/04/2014 12:13

It's part of Sunday licensing laws - you have to be closed on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday if you are over 250 Sq meters.

So it's rubbish, but there's a good reason for it.

kukeslala · 20/04/2014 12:14

I love it!
On the flip side my husband has 2 days off a year, Easter Sun and Christmas day.
A couple of days a year where you cant go "somewhere", there are other things to do, be imaginative- I'm not meaning that to be snippy either.

thebodydoestricks · 20/04/2014 12:14

Well I have had a lovely lie in.

Dh will cook a roast.

My kids are all at home and visiting,

We will have a nice glass of wine and watch a film, or have a walk.

Don't feel the need to shop,

I am not at work or doing any house work,

It's lovely. Grin stop your moaning!

nancy75 · 20/04/2014 12:15

I know, how dare shop staff have a day off!

chrome100 · 20/04/2014 12:17

Everything is open where I live?

Bodicea · 20/04/2014 12:17

I think it is nice that the shops are shut. We are such consumers now. Goodness they are open the other 363 days a year. Is that not enough? The idea is the everyone ( including the people in retail) can have a well deserved day off and spend time together as a family. Not such a bad thing.

ElseaStars · 20/04/2014 12:18

I don't mind people having time off but everyone together - why? Maybe I'm just a shopaholic? Grin Might stuff my face with a twirl easter egg - chocolate makes everything better.

It's special for us because of its meaning, but I can see how, if you aren't Christian and nothing's open, you might be rather bored. Church then family here ....

AnotherFurry · 20/04/2014 12:18

I hate booody Sunday trading laws full stop. No wonder the supermarkets started opening smaller 'express' stores to get round Easter Sunday Grin

nicename · 20/04/2014 12:19

I don't want to shop! I just have the feeling that I ought to be doing something... a bit Eastery.

My neighbour asked what we would be doing ove Easter (in a christian easter way, as he isn't christian). Ermmmmmm, eggs? Sady my parents aren't around anymore and family is too far away to go for a nice roast lunch.

Chrome, are you in Scotland? Seems to be different up here.

Warrap · 20/04/2014 12:20

YABU. Everywhere isn't closed. And so what if it's a day for religious people (or perhaps just the Christian ones). Can't you fill your time happily without shopping just for one day?

Trillions · 20/04/2014 12:22

YANBU, I hate it too. Am single with no available friends or family this weekend. Thank God the gym's open!

ElseaStars · 20/04/2014 12:22

No Warrap I'm empty inside I need shopping Grin Everywhere is closed around my area

In England the bigger shops are shut. Is this really such a big deal? I do have some sympathy with the garden centres which are not allowed to open today. As far as I can see, tourist attractions are open today and somebody else mentioned that the cinemas are open.

Thattimeofyearagain · 20/04/2014 12:25

I enjoy it - had a lovely walk first thing this morning, slobbing out with dh in front of tv now and round to my dps later for footie watching and family meal.

Nanny0gg · 20/04/2014 12:25

One day with it all closed.

We'll survive.

Trillions · 20/04/2014 12:27

And no, the other 363 days of the year are not enough, I want to go shopping today, more for the social interaction and having somewhere to go than to buy stuff. Days like today are when I most want shops etc to be open. There's no need to be smug and sanctimonious just because you've got people to spend time with "as a family" (a phrase that makes me feel like vomiting).

CMP69 · 20/04/2014 12:27

We've had a lovely lazy morning (and easter eggs), now for light lunch, little cycle, roast dinner and Hop on telly before bed for ds (5)
Then more chocolate and wine for DH and me Grin

ElseaStars · 20/04/2014 12:27

Does anyone know why we have weird trading laws on a sunday and why easter sunday is always worse?
