Sorry I know I'm probably being unreasonable but why is EVERYWHERE closed?! I really hate Easter. (To me it's a a day for kids and religious people)

Unfortunately 'getting and spending' is a part of life and the government shouldn't dictate when we should and shouldn't

People going on about shopping are totally missing the point that if you do live alone, it's an important part of social interaction. Maybe that sounds stupid but trust me a trip to asda really lifts my spirits, not because of buying things but because it establishes a link with the world.

It's one day but Easter Sunday and Christmas Day are days I find tough - YANBU OP :)

Anniegetyourgun · 20/04/2014 15:57

I worked this morning, humph. But at least I have a rare afternoon off, and the same again tomorrow, hurrah!

So here we are, sitting at our computers or holding frightfully clever mobile devices, with the entire world at our fingertips - music, films, news, research, articles, talkboards, pictures of fluffy kittens, not to mention the extremely jolly image above (I'm a bit old for all that sort of thing but I still have eyes!) - and moaning there's nothing to do? As long as the internet is open and there is electricity, there are lots of excuses not to do housework things to do.

I think I'll just go back and look at that picture for the next half hour, actually...

CambridgeBlue · 20/04/2014 15:57

I like the shops being closed, it forces you to do something else - the queues to get into our local retail park most Sundays are quite depressing. I'd be happy to go back to everywhere being closed on a Sunday and it being more of a family day. Alternatively, if the shops are going to open then they may as well open for a decent length of time - Sunday hours are a stupid half measure.

LaurieFairyCake · 20/04/2014 15:58

I never shop on Sundays because to me growing up in the 70's and 80's the shops weren't open - I don't remember the last time I went to a shop on a Sunday.

Easter is my favourite holiday of the year. Bit of DIY, bit of gardening, long break for dh (teacher), lovely weather, lighter and longer days without the too much heat of summer. Feels like a holiday.

I wish the shops were shut more. Roads would be quieter.

I like it that the shops are shut, but I hate Easter bank holiday , because its "family time" and as such it's like Sunday Squared:
Ds and I have no-one to play with, because they are all having the sacred "family time", or are away and my mum wants us to go to hers for a big lunch. (which I don't want to do at the moment as she and I are not exactly seeing eye to eye)
It's the one time of year I feel REALLY single.
Luckily, today one of the neighbours kids has come over to play, so it has relieved the tedium, and ds and I won't end up bickering!

ErrolTheDragonsEgg · 20/04/2014 16:02

yes - shops don't open soon enough if you decide you want to go out with the family and take a picnic or make a special brunch or lunch and you haven't pre-planned it.

ElseaStars · 20/04/2014 16:03

Surely families can decide their own family time without the government forcing easter holidays onto non religious people?

Oooh, Mrs D, a friend I saw in the pub on Friday said he went to see Adam Ant. He was shirtless the whole time. I know he is old, but I still would!

80sMum · 20/04/2014 16:08

The National Trust shop was open today at the house we visited. So, you're ok for shopping on Easter Sunday if you want to buy a picnic rug, a metal garden ornament in the shape of a duck, some lavender hand cream, wild-flower honey or a book about gardening!

im sat watching dispicable me in my fluffy slippers while dh cooks dinner Grin was my birthday yesterday but was working so making most of a lazy sunday

PunkrockerGirl · 20/04/2014 16:32

It's one day. Get over it.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 20/04/2014 16:36

Fair enough in a way Punkrocker but it can be a difficult day for some.

On the whole I think de-reg'ing is a good idea and then people just have more options?

Catsize · 20/04/2014 16:37

YABU and disrespectful. Perhaps instead of religion, you could at least focus on doing something less consumerist. It is one day. I am upset that places ARE open today (and even more so that they were on Friday). It is not the government directly telling you what you can and can't do, that is a bit OTT.

SauvignonBlanche · 20/04/2014 16:37

The roast lamb is now in the oven, I'm watching James Bond with DS and have started on the sherry.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 20/04/2014 16:44

Ooh, sherry, there's an idea ....
actually thinking of asking DH if he can pick up some G&T on his way home
I have a lonely lemon looking for a good home!
Would an off-licence be open do you think?

LynetteScavo · 20/04/2014 16:44

I love Easter Day. It's like Sundays were when I was a child, but with much better TV and no dread of school tomorrow.

ErrolTheDragonsEgg · 20/04/2014 16:44

Why do you think it's disrespectful?

BTW, just had a little google .- this was just the first relevant hit, I doubt its the only one... guess what? Salisbury cathedral gift shop opening hours: The shop is open daily (except Christmas Day) from 9.30am until 5.30pm.

perfectly legal, but perhaps a tad hypocritical of the churches to ban me from buying my potting compost today but happily selling 'a wide range of souvenirs, gifts, CDs, books, jewellery, pictures, clothing and confectionery' Grin

ElseaStars · 20/04/2014 16:44

Catsize I'm sorry you find it disrespectful but it's the idea behind why trading has stopped on easter that has got to me. Why should I have to put up with it - I am not a Christian? It is forced upon businesses and IMO it is stupid

I love it! It's like Christmas Day but without all the unrealistic expectations and pressure for it to be perfect.

Nice Sunday roast ( we BBQ the turkey) then board games and a DVD on in the background.

Am I'm glad it's raining as it means no pressure to go off for a walk anywhere.
