Took dd to MacDonalds today. For us this is a holiday treat as we enjoy the odd burger, although dd is really just lured by the plastic tat in the happy meal TBH. She is slim and eats normally rest of time.

But, bloody hell, the people in there were beyond belief really. Makes me realize how other families actually live and why the health of the country is as it is.

Family 1- all huge, and the youngest dd (aged about 9) was definitely the fattest and not only that she was eating a full sized meal, and worst of all was wearing a full red velour lipsy tracksuit with gold embroidery!!!!!

Family 2- Two boys with their dad, all sat vacantly staring at their food and munching away. First boy opens his (supersize) fries and says "wheres the salt?" Dad doesn't say anything, just fishes in the papers on his tray and passes packet of salt to child. The chips are ALREADY covered in far too much salt, especially for kids, and if the child asks for salt this makes me think this is a regular thing for him, to cover his food in salt.

Don't these people take any responsibility for their health AT ALL?

Treats are for the righteous Grin

I took my kids for a day out once and we went for lunch. The cafe had really nice food actually and quite a variety.

A huge woman and her equally huge teenage daughter sat down next to us. The daughter had in front of her 2 plates...one had a huge slice of Victoria sponge and the other plate had a huge slice of chocolate fudge cake...the daughter ate both slices herself...this was at lunchtime!

I actually felt really sad for her. There were so many other choices her mother could have steered her towards.

I will say there is a strange correlation in the UK between socioeconomic class and poor eating, that I don't think you get in other countries (except maybe the US).

ViviDeBeauvoir · 13/04/2014 09:29

Obviously you didn't see me and my 3DC in there. I'd taken them in because they'd behaved brilliantly all day while I dragged them in and out of shops (they're 5,3 and 15 months) and they wanted to eat there. I'm a slim size 10 and my oldest DC are slim too (the baby isn't but he's always been squishy). They behaved well in there, ate all their food and I even bought them an ice cream to eat on the walk to the car (shock horror!)
AFAIC the food in there is no worse than a calorie laden meal at Frankie and Benny's etc but it's nowhere near as expensive and I don't have to worry about the children disturbing po faced judgy individuals eating their food . . . . Or so I thought.

YABU to think that McDonalds is responsible for the obesity epidemic in this country. It's society, our culture and the government's fault for lack of education and making unhealthy foods cheaper, more attractive and 'a treat'.

Misspixietrix · 13/04/2014 09:30

I'm with worra on this. I can't say I've ever looked round a restaurant / fast food joint and judged the others there. I'm far too busy making sure the DCs behave Confused

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 13/04/2014 09:30

Is it really a hangover cure? Because I really can't shift this fecker....

burgercat · 13/04/2014 09:30

Oh come off it! I don't believe most people wouldn't have a little internal snigger at a child with rolls of fat squeezed into a tight red velor tracksuit with big gold embroidered logos all over it. (she might actually have been older than 9 thinking about, hard to tell actual age).

I didn't point and laugh or even more than glance at her. It's not nasty to have an opinion on a fashion choice, or even to talk about or write about it on a forum anonymously.

Would love to hear their side .... 'There was this really judgey looking woman loud parenting her kids today trying to prove what a marvellous parent she is and don't get me started on what she was wearing??!! '

Sadly any salient points you were trying to make about childhood nutrition have been totally lost in a clearly attention seeking post

LadyRainicorn · 13/04/2014 09:31

Hey, I love salt! I was just intrigued by the possibility they still have salt there - they haven't been salty or given salt out around here for ages.

I love the McNuggets. And the sweet and sour dip. Mmmmmmm. Although we have decided (as a disgustingly dressed bunch of fatty fatty fat fats, obvs) it's gotta technically be a chutney.

Misspixietrix · 13/04/2014 09:32

Vivi squishy baby! Grin

BuzzardBird · 13/04/2014 09:32

You have a "snigger" at an overweight child? Nice Hmm

ilovepowerhoop · 13/04/2014 09:32
  1. she said it was yesterday so not at breakfast time
  2. I think Lipsy do/did a teen range
  3. our McD's does have salt packets (maybe other dont but ours does)

You do see all sorts of people in McD's but then you see them everywhere else too.

BuzzardBird · 13/04/2014 09:33

Letsface you need travel sickness pills

Misspixietrix · 13/04/2014 09:33

Lady I like the BBQ one personally. :)

ZanyMobster · 13/04/2014 09:33

I think it is hard not to judge straight away about overweight people overeating i.e. when you are in a buffet restaurant as see very overweight people with a plate piled up and 3 desserts but as a rule I tend not to overthink it as it's not my business.

There are many reasons people may be in Macdonalds if they are overweight, they may actually not care which is completely their business or they may have been eating healthily for months and lost 2 stone so are there are a treat. There are lots of other reasons also of course.

We go to Macdonalds occasionally, the DCs love it, its saves cooking and time if we are short of that. My 8 YO DS will have an adult size meal, sometimes large. He is very slim, plays huge amounts of sports and has a big appetite as he needs to due to the amount of sport he plays. If he ate Macdonalds every day he would be overweight regardless of the sport no doubt but once in a while it is not an issue in my eyes. I cannot believe someone would actually judge me for him having an adult's meal.

HoneyDragon · 13/04/2014 09:34

I feel I should share this

I'm currently sat on the sofa (with the dog, screw hygiene) wearing a fetching polyester owl onesie and eating a huge bowl of Lucky Charms with a large cappuccino.

Because my friends, that is the fucking breakfast of fucking champions. And once the sugars burned off all those empty calories mean I might have room for a Big Mac later if I still fancy one.

This op had been a lovely start to my day Grin

Misspixietrix · 13/04/2014 09:35

Internal snigger at an Overweight Child? Good grief Katie Hopkins you're up early! Grin.

BuzzardBird · 13/04/2014 09:35

You are truly grotesque Honey Grin

formerbabe · 13/04/2014 09:35

It is pretty nasty and a strange reaction to laugh at an overweight child...

I am judging you op...because my reaction would be to feel sad for her not to laugh at her!

ZanyMobster · 13/04/2014 09:36

Ah I really fancy a sausage and egg mcmuffin now!

Misspixietrix · 13/04/2014 09:36

Honey I refuse to pay that amount for Lucky Charms. You can get a kids happy meal and a mcflurry for that.

Ploppy16 · 13/04/2014 09:36

Maybe McDonalds should only open in richer places so that the thin middle classes won't be exposed to the great unwashed..
You know what? We LIKE McDonalds. It's not a holiday treat, we go when we feel like it. Nobody has a clue what class we are or what we normally feed our children and from what I've seen when we've been in, noody cares.
Our local one is opposite a Catholic church. The last time we were in we stood behind the local priest. If it's good enough for a man of God, it's good enough for us.

ExcuseTypos · 13/04/2014 09:36

"sniggering" at a fat child? You're sound more of a twat with every post.
