to think the hatred for Next is just backlash against the popular and successful?

I don't get it, they stock such a wide range of products and styles how can everyone on here hate them? Whatever you find in other shops, you can generally find in Next too.

It's just bandwagonning isn't it? It's popular so it's cool to say you hate them isn't it?

In my eyes, if I want nice kids clothes Next has it- from cute and girly, to hooker style, to nautical, to traditional, whatever you want they have it!

They have women's stuff in formal, casual, tarty, frumpy, maternity, everything under the sun.

I shop in loads of places, including Next, but all the Next hatred puzzles me.

I think Next used to be much classier but there's literally nothing I like in their women's clothes - cheap looking, frumpy, synthetic.

They still have some nice children's clothes (but a lot that is tarty / naff)

I have boys, so they're the first place I look for kids' clothes. Nobody does it better.

Nocomet · 09/04/2014 22:38

I like next trousers as they tend to fit me and DD1 (they realise women have hips)

However, there are the same issues of thickness of cotton when they do use it and prevalence of polyester as with many other shops.

However, Next still want real money for tat while Primark, H&M and new look aren't as bad.

Five to ten years ago all the DDs Next stuff did both of them and was fit for the charity shop. Last dress DD2 had was paper thin and others I have refused to buy because they are so thin they don't hang right.

MamaPingu · 09/04/2014 22:39

The baby clothes are excellent quality and have washed so much better than any of DS's clothes by far!!

Everything has gone bobbly and faded but his dungarees, vests and sleep suits from next are almost as good as new! Smile

Thatballwasin · 09/04/2014 22:39

I didn't know everyone hated Next, I thought it was just me. Hideous women's clothes, one spark and the whole place would go up. Kids stuff is ok though disappointed to have missed the "hooker" collection.

JollyGolightly · 09/04/2014 22:39

Hooker style?

Seriously?

rabbitlady · 09/04/2014 22:40

is this a way of telling us that if we are to fit in with the crowd we need to hate next?

Darkesteyes · 09/04/2014 22:40

I took exception to the way the chief exec spoke about disability benefit claimants on QT

After his little outburst no one thought to ask him what his policy on employing disabled ppl is Hmm

ReadyToBreak · 09/04/2014 22:41

I hate Next's sizing policy. Vanity sizing at it's best.

My measurements are perfect 8 but I can't even fit in a size 6 in that place.

ouryve · 09/04/2014 22:42

Last time I paid over the odds for something from French Connection, it fell full of holes after a couple of washes.

That was a couple of decades ago, mind. I've not been tempted, since.

libertytrainers · 09/04/2014 22:43

until the boys reach 10 our then there's nowt for them, until they're men i suppose

ds(20) likes their stuff but the mens range seems better somehow than the womens

i wish they would go back in time to when they produced great leather belts/shoes/underwear. so much great stuff they even did make up at one point, now it just not recognisable

Bowlersarm · 09/04/2014 22:44

I didn't know there was hatred towards next. I thought everyone - especially mn - had total love for it.

Their t shirts are fab and cheap. Fit well and last. I do buy the odd thing from next but wouldn't buy something highly patterned and instantly recognisable, as I do feel a bit old to be wearing next now. Same with its homeware.

FutTheShuckUp · 09/04/2014 22:44

Really ready? I always find their clothes come up big on me

chicaguapa · 09/04/2014 22:45

It's very meh. Nothing special and the OP's comment that whatever you can find on the high street you can find in there is bang on. Nothing about it sets itself apart from anywhere else. But it's inoffensive.

Funnily enough I have just bought a side table from there and my reaction when it was in its intended place was that it's very Next, ie twee. It goes a bit too well iyswim? So now I have to put to something unexpected on it so it doesn't look like a scene from the Next Directory. Grin

Quinteszilla · 09/04/2014 22:47

I like it. But I am sick of all the ugly monkeys on the boys stuff.

libertytrainers · 09/04/2014 22:48

the t shirts are crap i am suprised people love it so much, though saying that i have a next sofa that is really well made

paulapantsdown · 09/04/2014 22:48

I used to buy LOADS from Next, but never see anything I like anymore really. Ordered (out of boredom the other evening really) over £200 worth. I returned every single thing today.

I only buy school uniform and jeans for the kids there now.

ouryve · 09/04/2014 22:48

DS1 is 10 and tall-ish and we're running out of shops that sell stuff to fit him.

DS2 gets his handmedowns.

I particularly like their school trousers. They actually fit skinny hipped boys and last more than a month before falling apart. Even some of those get handed down, if they survive DS1's exploits with paint, scissors, concrete etc.

DH does have some lovely shirts from there - he likes their fitted stuff, and the ones with the long arms. M&S equivalents have cost a lot more and worn out quicker. And don't always fit him right, as he's skinny with big shoulders (and DS1 is taking after him).

ItsAFuckingVase · 09/04/2014 22:50

Didn't know everyone hated Next. Especially as everyone seems to wear their awful cheaply made shite.

I find the stuff in there to be just really boring, dull and frumpy. I'm not sure it's always been that way but I walk through Next to get to other shops and that's the impression I always get.

That said, DH gets t-shirts occasionally and they seem to wash ok.

ouryve · 09/04/2014 22:50

We also have loads of their joggers for the boys (and me!) Generally slim fitting, again.

soontobeslendergirl · 09/04/2014 22:51

Apart from the hems falling down on just about everything and some really dubious sizing glitches, I like them.

Kids school trousers last and wash really well as do the school shirts. I still buy some of the kids things there, but they now need age 15 or 16 and although they are only 12 and 13, they often don't want to be wearing the same as a 3 year old which is how a lot of their sizing works.

I'd prefer them to run their ranges a bit more seperately so that that didn't happen. e.g. have some stuff only for age 12 upwards or something. Their pants and socks are great too.

I tend to buy jeans and work stuff for myself there, but it can be a hit or a miss if you buy on-line as some things are clearly mis-labelled, I've had size 14s that were too big and size 18s that were too small :(

cosikitty · 09/04/2014 22:51

Actually, just checked and not finding many hooker styles in the girl's wear, maybe that was a while ago Hmm, another reason to like it then Grin.

OP posts:
unicornpoop · 09/04/2014 22:52

I dont really like most of the styles they have and things seem poorer quality than they used to, but I like their jeans. They always fit me nicely and last a reasonable length of time. Also, the sizing seems generous compared to other shops so I dont feel fat Grin

libertytrainers · 09/04/2014 22:52

ouryve we not get ds(12)'s clothes from primark as it fits him, he's a medium/large in men's sizes! i would say primark is better than next now
