To wonder just how much rent you people are paying?

I often see posters commenting on how much rent they are paying to live in nice areas/near good schools etc. and I can't help but wonder how much you are all paying!

I am lucky that I live in a Housing Association house, and that I live in the North where rents seem to be cheaper.

My rent is £420 a month for a 2 bedroom house - how much is yours?

We now have a mortgage but 9 months ago our rent on a two bed, modern flat in Central Manchester would have been about £700. Renting agents were advising ll to charge more than that.

fluffyraggies · 09/04/2014 14:58

£750 pm LARGE 3 bed detached, with massive garden, big patio, over looking miles of countryside, massive drive, sleepy village, lovely schools. Warwickshire/Northants border.

This house in a nearby town would be almost double the price.

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 09/04/2014 14:58

And it was furnished.

cafebistro · 09/04/2014 14:58

£450 for 3 bed semi with massive gardens in a Lincolnshire village. Excellent catchment area for schools including 3 grammar schools. It's rented from a family member though so we've got a good deal.

£1200 per month!!! Sad

One bedroom flat in south London.

Me, DH and Ds. Time to move to the country.

ThePearShapedToad · 09/04/2014 15:01

Large apartment in the south east, mortgage £550 a month but rent I could charge £7-800 a month for it

Bumpandkind · 09/04/2014 15:01

Reading this makes me sad. London is so expensive.

dancingnancy · 09/04/2014 15:02

1600 a month. Lovely big house though.

McFox · 09/04/2014 15:03

£700 for an unfurnished 1 bed flat in a georgian building in Edinburgh.

Chattymummyhere · 09/04/2014 15:04

£550 a month for a medium 3 bed mid terrace house in an ok area within Cambridgeshire.

Landlord is crap, windows blown, hole in the roof, doors that not shut right, a leak somewhere coming into my kitchen, half and half double and single glazed, broken radiator, boiler that does not keep pressure etc

LRDtheFeministDragon · 09/04/2014 15:05

bertie, not everyone can save up for a deposit or get a mortgage.

We wanted to, but they wouldn't even consider us. Bizarre, because you'd think if we can pay the rent we could pay the mortgage.

DownstairsMixUp · 09/04/2014 15:05

£650 a month for a two bed bungalow in Kent. Beach is at the back of our house and near nice schools. Luckily we have never paid any renewal fees or anything and been here since 2011.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 09/04/2014 15:06

(Sorry, just realized that may have come across as rude and I didn't mean it to! Blush I thought it was odd too, but there's more to it than I'd expected.)

SelectAUserName · 09/04/2014 15:09

Bertie we rent because we don't have a deposit; we wouldn't get a mortgage for a comparable house on my salary and my DH doesn't work (disabled) so even though we can afford £800 pcm, we're stuck renting.

HandN · 09/04/2014 15:09

God all this makes me feel sad lol.

2 bed, good size apartment right on the beach of se.
It's a complex so we get use of a lovely gym and pool included in rent... we haggled it down to 750, which is amazing considering everything else in the complex is 1000+ .

BertieBotts · 09/04/2014 15:11

Ah okay. I just wondered because that seems insane - how much do you have to earn to get one?? It was hard enough trying to get a guarantor for my house which I rented back in the UK, all the places wanted someone who earned at least 2k a month. I don't know anyone who earns that kind of money Confused

Blithereens · 09/04/2014 15:12

No LRD, you're quite right. We can afford the rent, but it's so high we really struggle to save for a deposit. Plus, peowouldn't necessarily want to buy the kind of place we rent.

Blithereens · 09/04/2014 15:12

*people wouldn't

Stupid phone today!

everygalaxy · 09/04/2014 15:12

£400 for a nice end of terrace 2 bed house in a pretty village (mates rates though should probably be £500ish)

ilovesmarties · 09/04/2014 15:13

£975 for a very small 2 bed Victorian Cottage in Oxon with courtyard garden. On high street though and school behind our house.

FelixFelix · 09/04/2014 15:13

Bertie we could afford a mortgage easily but it's the deposit which is the problem. You get stuck in a rut of renting as you can't save for a deposit Sad

poshme · 09/04/2014 15:14

We were paying £850 month for 2 bed house. No central heating, kitchen not been changed for 30 years. Unfurnished. Threadbare carpets. Hampshire. Sad

LRDtheFeministDragon · 09/04/2014 15:16

bertie - yes, it's really depressing. We didn't need a guarantor for the rent because we could manage a rental deposit. But a mortgage would be tricky.

I wouldn't honestly mind renting if it weren't for the total lack of security. I don't mind not being able to decorate my own way and so on - it's not being able to budget properly because you know you might get kicked out and have to pay to move all the time. I am suspecting/hoping this is going to change, though.

blither - your phone isn't having a good day, is it?! Grin

thehomesecretary · 09/04/2014 15:18

925 for a two bed flat, no garden in Reigate, Surrey. In catchment area of good school, decent sized flat, but still feel it's a lot!

ApprenticeViper · 09/04/2014 15:18

650 per month for an unfurnished four bed (well, three and a half really) Victorian terrace, about 5 miles out of Manchester city centre. Good schools nearby.
