To wonder just how much rent you people are paying?

I often see posters commenting on how much rent they are paying to live in nice areas/near good schools etc. and I can't help but wonder how much you are all paying!

I am lucky that I live in a Housing Association house, and that I live in the North where rents seem to be cheaper.

My rent is £420 a month for a 2 bedroom house - how much is yours?

soapnuts · 09/04/2014 14:41

I conclude we pay too much rent!

Amytheflag · 09/04/2014 14:41

525 for a two bed house in (the not so nice part of) Cheshire.

blibblibs · 09/04/2014 14:42

£1000 per month for a 3 bed bungalow in a decent state in the midlands.

TimeForAnotherNameChange · 09/04/2014 14:45

£1,100 mortgage on four bed detached, nice area, small garden, good schools, North Herts. Renting is v similar prices

sarahquilt · 09/04/2014 14:45

750 1 bed flat in Essex.

Needadvice5 · 09/04/2014 14:47

I pay £360 per month for a big 3 bed semi with huge landscaped back garden, driveway for 2 cars and I overlook lovely fields.

It's a HA property, really lovely area, feel very very lucky reading some of these shocking rent prices.

Princessolipops · 09/04/2014 14:48

Herroyalnotness I think owners of the house should replace threadbare carpets... Surely you wouldn't expect a tenant to replace carpets that have been worn down through the years of previous tenants?? I have and do rent privately and all the homeowners have replaced carpets etc when they needed done.

Daughter and her b/friend pay £1,000 per month for a 2-bedroomed, not particularly nice flat in Woking. No garden, tiny balcony (not allowed to hang washing out)

They have an extra lodger to help with the cost.

Megrim · 09/04/2014 14:49

£2500 gets you a 4 bed house here, within the catchment of the best academy (Aberdeen).

FeathersMcGraw · 09/04/2014 14:50

£825 for a 4 bed, 3 storey semi in Leicestershire. Nice village and overlooks woodland trails.

somedizzywhore1804 · 09/04/2014 14:51

925 for a four bedroom townhouse in an affluent London borough within walking distance of 7 good schools.

JoandMax · 09/04/2014 14:52

We haven't rented in the UK for 5 years but were paying £1650 for a 2 bed house then!! I think they go for over £2k now....

We bought out of London in a commuter town and for £600 a month had a mortgage on a 3 bed semi - best decision we ever made

umbrellahead · 09/04/2014 14:53

£800 for a 3 bed terrace is an okay-ish area with a small back yard. Primary schools are less than desirable but luckily the secondary we used to be in catchment for has closed and we're now in catchment for a better one. You would think that being in the North we would be exempt from such high rents but in York house prices are astronomical. We are very lucky in that our landlord is fine keeping rents low as we are good tenants but if we were to have to move now a comparable house would be around £150-£200 a month more.

toolonglurking · 09/04/2014 14:54

£1200 for 3 bedroom flat in Edinburgh

Snargaluff · 09/04/2014 14:54

600 per month for 2 bed top floor flat in north west. Not too bad, but I only earn 1200 so it can be hard!

Snargaluff · 09/04/2014 14:55

Not 'only' earn, but I mean in comparison to the rent

ManateeEquineOHara · 09/04/2014 14:55

795 PCM 3 bed terraced in Devon. Small town with v small rental market, a few cheaper 3 beds came up to rent shortly after we moved but this house does suit us well actually (although hate the proportion of my income going on rent and the fact we could be given notice whenever).

traininthedistance · 09/04/2014 14:56

Market rents in my town (SE) are ridiculously high

  • 795-1250pcm for a one-bed flat, 1200-1400/pcm for a 2-bed terrace or flat, 1400+ for 3-bed. Not sure who can afford them!
BertieBotts · 09/04/2014 14:56

Was paying £650 for 2 bed mid terrace in Warwickshire.

We now pay €700 for a 2 bedroom attic with no balcony and no proper kitchen in Germany.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 09/04/2014 14:56

950pcm, 2 bed house in Oxfordshire. Previously 660 for a one-bed flat, and 510 for a double room in a shared house - all in the last five years, so I mention it because it shows how, actually, the most expensive thing to do round here is to live alone!

(This is a really interesting thread btw!).

Whatsyourpoint · 09/04/2014 14:57

£750 for a 2 bed terrace in Reading.

BertieBotts · 09/04/2014 14:57

The thing is, surely if you can afford 1400 a month on rent, your income is high enough to get a mortgage!

We only rent because we don't have enough income for a mortgage.

Blithereens · 09/04/2014 14:57

£1000 for a tiny 2-bed terraced in the SE. Only £150 more than we were paying for our 1-bed flat before.

Makes it so, so hard to save for the deposit to buy :(

stripeyblacksocks · 09/04/2014 14:58

£425 for a 3 bed flat in Scotland, not a city so much more affordable
