To wonder just how much rent you people are paying?

I often see posters commenting on how much rent they are paying to live in nice areas/near good schools etc. and I can't help but wonder how much you are all paying!

I am lucky that I live in a Housing Association house, and that I live in the North where rents seem to be cheaper.

My rent is £420 a month for a 2 bedroom house - how much is yours?

£1700 PCM for a nice 1 bed flat - approx 700sqft, small modern block, zone 1 london in a 'trendy' area. It is, however, on quite a busy road but bedroom is at the back so not too annoying.

I think that is not actually too bad to be honest for the location, quality and size of flat.

I saw loads and loads of much shitter flats for more money when flat hunting.

rootypig · 09/04/2014 14:23

£1000 for a big two bed with huge shared garden, Oxford. This is simultaneously a rip off and a deal Grin

jay55 · 09/04/2014 14:24

1325 one bed, London zone 2.

SelectAUserName · 09/04/2014 14:24

£795 for a 3-bed townhouse in YO1 with garage and small sort-of-garden. Cheaper than anything comparable we saw advertised in this postcode by at least £100-200. Incredibly lucky that landlord owns house outright (inheritance) so doesn't have to cover a mortgage.

SelectAUserName · 09/04/2014 14:25

gamerchick in which direction? My parents live about the same, north-wards.

BankWadger · 09/04/2014 14:25

Too much. Especially considering the state of disrepair it is in. Large scale landlord who is only after money so is happy to let a good place slowly crumble. Especially as he knows the location means there will always be fools happy enough to live here. We'll be gone soon and I can't bloody wait.

£1272 for a 3 (converted to 4) bed terrace in a relatively naice part of Bristol.

HerRoyalNotness · 09/04/2014 14:28

Our 4bed in the NE is rented for 600/mth. We haven't put it up in 5 years. I was just enquiring with the letting agent about an increase and he said not to as people were struggling with cuts to benefits etc... It doesn't cover the mortgage, we have to add another 350/mth to it.

Interesting some of you say that landlords aren't fixing things like threadbare carpets. When we first rented it, there was a small hole in the stair carpet, and we left all the curtains in the house for the tenant to use. The agent said if they wanted to replace carpet it was up to the tenant and had my MIL take all of the curtains out before tenant moved in.

gamerchick · 09/04/2014 14:28

Yeah about the same as your parents select

HearMyRoar · 09/04/2014 14:29

Until about a month ago we paid £925 a month for a very small 2 bed apartment with no garden.

We now own a very small 2 bed with a garden a bit further out of town. Our mortgage is about £200 a month less then our rent was. We still had a nightmare trying to convince banks we could afford it. Madness!

PurplePunkPrincess · 09/04/2014 14:29

925 a month for a 4 bed near Worcestershire/Warwickshire border :)

FetchezLaVache · 09/04/2014 14:32

£650 for a large two-bed terrace in an OK (but not naice) part of Harrogate. It's more than I can comfortably afford, really.

Theeverexpandingrodders · 09/04/2014 14:32

3bedroom £650 2reception and 2 bathrooms northern ireland

ohmymimi · 09/04/2014 14:35

£429, HA 2 bed terrace bungalow, rural Worcs.

WomanScorned · 09/04/2014 14:35

445, 2 bed terrace, large downstairs, small garden, decent primary, good road/rail links. Northants.

Wantsunshine · 09/04/2014 14:36

Sezam it is and it is such a depressing place. Even has lino flooring. Will be able to move about a mile out and get something that was at least decorated this century.

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 09/04/2014 14:37

£1150pcm, 4 bed detached in a naice-ish bit of Bucks. Going by the prices of similar houses round here, this place is a freaking steal.

I miss the days of my 3 bed town house in Staffordshire that only cost £250pcm. [wistful]

ephemeralfairy · 09/04/2014 14:38

£650 per month for small one-bed basement flat in SE London (zone 4). Not a 'naice' area but good transport links and shopping. I predict that prices will soar in the next 3-5 years with the advent of Crossrail....

We think we're onto a good thing, one-bedders in the next postcode are £800-plus. We want to get out of London in the next 18 months/2 years though.

Elfhame · 09/04/2014 14:39

£350 per month for a two bedroom HA flat in Plymouth

bobot · 09/04/2014 14:40

850 pcm in South East, 3 bed semi, not brilliant condition, cheapest we could find (struggled to get under 1,000. We did rent in Wales, 525 a month for similar size, better condition. Depressing.

ButtonMoonicorn · 09/04/2014 14:40

675 pcm for smallish 3 bed mid terrace in SE, near the sea. We have a garden but no parking. It's not the worst area but not the best. Within walking distance of school though, and a park. I used to live in the NE and it makes me weep to think what we could afford up there!
