To dress my baby in babygros?

Namechangesrus · 08/04/2014 14:06

My DD is 4 months old and I still dress her almost exclusively in babygros, day and night. She has some other little outfits like t shirts and leggings, dresses and tights etc, which she wears occasionally.

I just prefer her to wear comfy clothes, plus she looks so cute in them!

I was having coffee with some other mums with baby's who are 4 and 6 months and they were talking about how they hate to see babies over 4 months or so in babygros during the day. They said 'they're not baby babies any more' and it looks weird and like they're wearing pyjamas.

I'm not offended or anything, just want to know if I'm the weird one!

I think they need to get back to work and stop being fannys.

Joules68 · 08/04/2014 14:08

I think you must know that you are not......

17leftfeet · 08/04/2014 14:09

Of course a 4 month old baby is still a baby???

Baby grows are perfectly fine -ignore your friends

DinoSnores · 08/04/2014 14:10

Not at all. If I spent most of my time lying down and sleeping, I'll want to be in comfy pjs. I've kept the DC in babygros most of the time for months!

bunchoffives · 08/04/2014 14:10

No you are the sensible one. Baby gros are comfortable and warm for a baby that is still mostly asleep - or at least lying down.

EscapeTermunus · 08/04/2014 14:11

Both dc were wearing soft leggings and yoos, dungarees etc by around 5 months and sleep suits at night. But of course yanbu. Dress your dc however you wish.

I've read threads where posters have kept their dc in babygrows for over a year/til walking. Others have said they dress their baby is outfits from birth.

Just a personal preference.

EscapeTermunus · 08/04/2014 14:11

Tops not yoos!

levianne · 08/04/2014 14:11

Nope, not weird! If it was clean, comfy and fit, then it got put on my DS when he was small.

I think babygros are actively better than a lot of other baby clothes because they don't constrict them about the waist. I find baby clothes like tiny jeans, etc, really weird (if often also really cute) as those aren't practical or suitable for a tiny being who spends their entire day lying down.

When they start crawling in earnest is when I think slightly more robust clothes are called for, and even then only outdoors.

SapphireMoon · 08/04/2014 14:12

Babies grows are easy and comfortable and my 2 wore them for months.
Sometimes with a little cardie or jumper and even socks in the winter!
Surrounded by babies in jeans and pretty dresses.
You carry on with the baby grows...

SocialNeedier · 08/04/2014 14:13

It's easier to change nappies if babe is in a babygro.

I only bother putting three month old dd in outfits if we're going out somewhere nice.

PeggaPip · 08/04/2014 14:14

To me, babygrows are pyjamas. I dressed mine in soft trousers/leggings and little cardigans during the day at this age. Still comfy and warm. Hate seeing newborns in things like jeans and shirts, though!

elliejjtiny · 08/04/2014 14:14

YANBU (looks at 10 month old DS4 who still mostly wears babygrows)

cupsarecups · 08/04/2014 14:14

Love them! Always have done. Mine wore them loads way past 4 months.
People close to me did say something! But only in a chuckle kind of way.

hoppingmad · 08/04/2014 14:17

Dt's were in babygro's for months and months. They looked comfy, easier for me and their (cloth) nappies made it a bit tricky getting nicely fitting clothes anyway as they are bulkier than disposables.
I have no preference about how others dress their baby's but I just did what fitted for us.
I guess they started wearing 'proper' clothes more regularly from about 6 months.

Kittymalinky · 08/04/2014 14:18

My 18 mo spent yesterday afternoon and this afternoon in a babygrow. I put her in them to nap as her normal clothes were a bit uncomfortable and couldn't be bothered to change her afterwards.

Granted we didn't go out (I wouldn't go out with her dressed like that but that's mainly because it's impractical)

She definitely wore babygrows most of the time until she started crawling when they weren't so practical.

Ignore

nochips · 08/04/2014 14:18

I kept mine in babygros until 10-11 months. They were so snuggly and warm and so sweet.

It never occurred to me that it was 'weird' (according to who anyway?) until next door neighbour commented 'whenever we see your DS he is always in his pyjamas'. But considering the neighbour is 65, and thought it was appropriate to give me a very detailed and lengthy lecture about how to breastfeed properly two days after I came out of hospital (no, he is not a doctor. He was a car mechanic) I just thought 'tosspot' and got on with it.

ImASecretTwigletNibbler · 08/04/2014 14:19

Let's just say I was annoyed when mine got to 3yo and they stopped making babygros big enough to fit them :)

MoreSkyThanWeNeed · 08/04/2014 14:20

I thought Yoos were a brand of baby clothes I had heard of - was about to Google!
Sounds like those other mums were pretty bitchy - if that's their biggest problem, then lucky them.
I hate people who make those sorts of comments that make others think, hang on, are they talking about me?
I love babygrows - sometimes my 9mo wears them during the day.

nochips · 08/04/2014 14:21

What do you meanTwiglet?

Can i introduce you to the onesie. Grin

ImASecretTwigletNibbler · 08/04/2014 14:24

nochips :)

weaselish · 08/04/2014 14:26

YANBU - my 4 month old is wearing a babygro napping next to me right now. They are comfy, easy to wash, don't need ironing...! Dress your baby however you want. I put my little one in dresses/tights/leggings if we are going somewhere nice but for everyday at home/trips to shops it's babygros all the way.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 08/04/2014 14:29

Arf at "not baby babies anymore". Grin
4 months old is pretty much a baby to me! YANBU, as long as she's clean and comfy and happy, who cares?

StampyIsMyBoyfriend · 08/04/2014 14:35

Yanbu. DS wore them for months, with hand knitted cardigans on top - gorgeous!

Mutley77 · 08/04/2014 14:35

Ahhh, i love babygros. I changed DD (nearly 10 months) into one the other evening when we were out as she was about to lie down in her pram and go to sleep at her bedtime. She ended up staying up for quite a while and looked really comfy and warm crawling around in it - so I left her in it most of the next day. Have ordered some more online and may well dress her in them more often!! At 4 months she was in "proper clothes" but here is was very hot summer so those were mostly babygros with no arms and legs (romper suits?).

Chipandspuds · 08/04/2014 14:37

DS wore babygrows and knitted cardigans for the first 6 months with the occasional 'outfit'. Much easier to get on/off and more comfortable for the baby IMHO! And a 4 month old is most definitely still a baby Wink
