Here we go! Thread five! Thread four filled in one month!

Here is a link to thread four & you can work back from there.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2017939-Nest-of-Vapers-we-continue-to-not-BU-to-carry-on-vaping?pg=1

We are all always happy to answer any question. No question is too daft or unreasonable! We all know what a minefield of terminology it is when you first take up vaping.

Here is Allergic's great summary for anyone who is starting vaping:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

A liquid swap thread would be brilliant. We all have such individual tastes and it's such a waste to have flavours you don't like.

FarelyKnuts · 13/04/2014 00:28

Oh and I am past the 4 week mark. Yay me :o

MaggieMcGill · 13/04/2014 05:41

Liking the idea of a swap shop thread Grin

Schro the raspberry smelt amazing but it was a little disappointing tbh. I will still use it though so thank you. I am totally loving the dark star strawberry. It's like strawberry sweeties rather than fresh strawberries. I'm thinking of getting more because it's really nice. Still to try the lime and lemon.

I've had a disastrous week! Had to chuck out two batteries one I've had before Christmas so no biggie and the other was only a few weeks old but just wouldn't charge. I'm down to two batteries and panicking so I have a MVp hopefully arriving on Monday Blush

ginmakesitallok · 13/04/2014 08:03

RAIA, you seen to be suffering from what is commonly known as vapers tongue. It will pass, try brushing your teeth, sometimes helps

Raia · 13/04/2014 10:59

Yep Gin, definite case of vaper's tongue here - I've upped my water intake, brushing my teeth and tongue a lot and am switching between liquids, hopefully it'll pass soon Confused

QueenStromba · 13/04/2014 15:11

Raia try Tangerine Dream by T juice, it's a bit more orange flavoured sweets than fresh fruit but it's very nice. I've tried a juice that did taste like fresh oranges but didn't think it worked at all.

FlockOfTwats · 13/04/2014 15:53

T-juice are a fabulous company. Slightly more expensive than others but i really like them. I buy slightly cheaper from a shop here so it's worth checking local vendors as i pay almost 50% less.

Their colonel custard is lovely.

Dwerf · 13/04/2014 16:49

Almost all the bricks and mortar shops in my town sell 10ml at three bottles for a tenner. There's one that are doing four for a tenner, I'm going to see what flavours they have. They also do two 20mls for a tenner.

My batteries seem to drain very quickly at the moment, they are only lasting a couple of hours tops, but they seem to charge just as quick. How long would you expect a 600mah battery to last with continuous vaping?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/04/2014 17:23

I would usually expect around one hour for each 100mah, Dwerf, so 600mah = around 6 hours. Were they decent batteries and how long have you had them? Even expensive ones can be a bit hit and miss IME.

I am currently tentatively charging my mvp. I fell over with it a few weeks ago and in the following week it seemed to be running down quicker. I also thought it was getting warm while I was using it so I just put it away and stopped using it.

This weekend, DS has switched to vaping (hurrah!) using mine and DH kit (booo!) so there's been a bit of a scuffle for the egos. So, I dug the mvp out and used it for a bit - it was nearly drained anyway - and it didn't get warm. It's nearly charged now and I've been feeling it about every 10 mins - no warmth detected Smile I'm hoping I was just being paranoid but wish me luck!

Dwerf · 13/04/2014 17:30

I've had them both a month or so, but they were cheap ones. At home it's not so much a problem, because I have three, so I just swap and charge them. In fact it's not even much of a problem out and about, because I ddon't tend to vape much at all when I'm out. I think I vape a lot at home because of boredom, habit and because it's there. I just wondered if they were running down too quick, seems they are.

Dwerf · 13/04/2014 17:33

They are these: smokersdlite.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_33&products_id=180

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/04/2014 17:35

Sounds like it's time to get some new ones, especially if they're all doing it - you don't want to be caught without.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/04/2014 17:36

Mind you, if you have bricks & mortar close to you it's not such a big worry.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/04/2014 17:38

That looks like a good little starter kit with the free liquids. It's a shame if the batteries aren't great.

Dwerf · 13/04/2014 17:51

I think I will get batteries from a different shop next time. There's a tablites shop in the market, maybe I should buy one there.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/04/2014 18:31

I've always had good stuff from myepack How much do you want to spend? You could take the opportunity to upgrade to a spinner.

whatadrama · 13/04/2014 18:40

I've just received my spinner from Myepack having seen it recommended on here and its brilliant.

I only have to charge it once every 2 days and it arrived within 3 days which is always a bonus!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/04/2014 18:57

DH just dropped his ecig in the pond Grin Serves him right for being too cool to wear the stylish lanyard I got him. So we fished it out really quickly, the atomiser is in the washing up and recoiling pot and the battery is still firing (he gave it a really good shake to get the drops out). To be on the safe side, I have stuck it in a lidded pot with about 50 of those 'silica gel - do not eat' sachets (I knew they'd come in one day). How long should I leave it in there for?

On the plus side, I've been using the mvp again for the last half hour and have not yet exploded my face Smile

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 13/04/2014 19:19

Maggie That was it, the same for me. Smelt lovely but a very boring, school canteen, almost not there arctic roll taste. :( Don't feel like you need to keep using it!

The darkstar sweet strawberry is my favourite so far, so sweet and tasty, mines finished a few days ago too so will be ordering more this week. Mixed with the Kiwi too it is bloody close to perfection. :) Peach melba was not so great unfortunately but I have left it to steep since trying, just in case.

Tonight I made the mistake of cleaning out my tank, then changing to a new wick (mines is starting to taste not right so was going to scrub it clean later and try again) and then I filled it with my Uncles "apple pie and custard flavour". Christ, I cannot get the flavour of this awful stuff out of my tank, have cleaned it and put a different flavour in but could not taste the new one at all, had to clean that out of it and change to grape as it's the strongest flavour I have without resorting to the scary menthols...

Can still taste it, it's like stale digestive biscuits.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 13/04/2014 19:22

Plenty If I have dropped a phone in water, I leave that for 24-48 hours in rice, I would guess maybe 12-24 hours for an e-cig? Since the design of them should allow for getting wet a bit anyway?

Congrats on the non exploding MVP. :o If I could get Paypal "pay after delivery" to work properly, I would be ordering the lovely MVP shine, looks like I will be waiting untill Wednesday to order!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/04/2014 19:26

I know exactly the stale biscuity flavour you're on about Schro, I had a cheesecake flavour I had to pass on as it was just too biscuity for me. Take the clearo to bits and soak it in a bit of vodka overnight then just air dry.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/04/2014 19:27

OK I'll give it 24 hours Smile

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 13/04/2014 20:30

I don't have any vodka! :( I have just tried soaking the wicks with a soaked cotton bud and cleaning tank out (again) and this time put some strawberry in (tasted yum before this, bit like ribena), nope still tastes a bit like weirdy stale biscuits. :(

Think I may actually have to buy vodka. :(

I'm sure 24 hours should be enough, I once had a tesco phone that got flushed in a toilet in a nightclub and never stopped working! I didn't even do rice with that one (being 18 and a bit silly). I'm sure it will work fine again.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/04/2014 20:56

You could go to the chemist and ask for isopropyl alcohol for cleaning purposes (you might be interrogated about what it's for). I have some left over from years ago I got for an odd art project when I was at college. It's brilliant stuff, it got the smell of gingerbread out of my mini protank, and much cheaper than vodka but very flammable so careful how you store it.

Meanwhile, you could try a .

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 13/04/2014 21:31

The latest clean and the strawberry seems to be taking the worst of it off, hopefully the more I vape the strawberry, the better it will get. The biscuity crap wasn't in it very long at all...
