Hundreds of vipers vaping in our fifth thread!!

Here we go! Thread five! Thread four filled in one month!

Here is a link to thread four & you can work back from there.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2017939-Nest-of-Vapers-we-continue-to-not-BU-to-carry-on-vaping?pg=1

We are all always happy to answer any question. No question is too daft or unreasonable! We all know what a minefield of terminology it is when you first take up vaping.

Here is Allergic's great summary for anyone who is starting vaping:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

Ce4. It's saying it lasts 900 puffs - do you then bin them or can you recharge them?

ginmakesitallok · 11/04/2014 17:20

You poor thing shona, we all have days like that.

A ce4 is a clearo not a battery, so you don't charge them? Also you say you're not getting on with the mvp2, but all your issues seem to be with clearos, not with the battery?

ginmakesitallok · 11/04/2014 17:22

What floaty straw thing????

ilovesooty · 11/04/2014 18:58

Do you mean the wick?

FlockOfTwats · 11/04/2014 19:55

Shona It's not your MVP that is the problem lol its the clearomisers. You'd be having that problem no matter what battery you put them on. They're two different things :)
If you got a mouthful of liquid from the evod you most likely poured it down the centre tube, you need to not do that lol.

Raia I have the MVP2 and i also have a Vamov5. They're both good but i'd go for the MVP2 everytime. Mainly because the battery life is so good. Vamos can be quite small if you take the extension tube off but it means a smaller capacity battery - Although obviously you can easily carry spare batteries.

FlockOfTwats · 11/04/2014 19:56

You mean the wicks Shona? It's bottom coil so doesn't need long wicks. It has little ones.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 11/04/2014 21:43

Hello! I keep losing my place on here. Had a crap couple of days as babies have been unwell but am back to noseying on MN now.

Maggie Glad the raspberry got to you, did you like it? I am back to loving strawberry just now, and grape. :)

I am going to upgrade soon, still can't decide though!

LittleDragon · 11/04/2014 23:15

Hi all, I've been vaping for 4 weeks after a doctor suggested I take up smoking again (gave up 3 years ago) to help with stress levels, which I refused to do. We came to vaping as a compromise. I also got DP to start vaping as he wants, and needs, to give up smoking. He's now vaping for all but his 3 after meal smokes which he's struggling to give up as he can't find an e-liquid that tastes like his marlboros do after food. Does anyone have any ideas we could try as so far the one thats been suggested is 'british gold' from VIP and that isn't doing it from him, he's finding it a bit too harsh. He's willing to try non-tobacco flavours as well but really wants to find something that isn't so harsh so he can gives up smoking completely for vaping asap.

Candid VIP do the photon tank kits if you want to stay with them, that's what me and DP have started with.

Dwerf · 12/04/2014 00:03

candid If you're determined to stay on cigalikes, I discovered VIP and tablites have the same thread, so are interchangeable. May not be any use, but you never know.

Littledragon b ut smoking doesn't really help stress levels? It just adds a craving level of stress to everything else?

Btw, did anyone suffer from insomnia when they switched?

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 12/04/2014 00:16

Dwerf, I am still suffering from insomnia! As well as being constantly thirsty, so constantly needing to wee. :/ Not so great when you have bladder retention and makes for a rather annoying night resembling being 8 months pregnant.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 12/04/2014 00:16

Also, I am shocked that a Doctor would tell anyone to start smoking!

Dwerf · 12/04/2014 00:49

It's been really bad this week, I have taken two hours to go to sleep everynight, my mind just wont switch off. Last night it wasn't even stress keeping me awake; but a n imaginary conversation and, concurrently but unconnected, the song haleujiah running through my head.

I wondered if it was the drop in nicotine, from being a very heavy smoker (poss 12g tobacco a day) to I don't know how many mls of 16mg. I don't want to go up in mg, because I'm coping well on this, but it's annoying.

magimedi · 12/04/2014 07:38

Littledragon I am a dedicated tobacco flavour (used to smoke Gold Virginia) & I vape The Sherlock from:

www.ecigwizard.com

The first week/10 days I mixed vaping & smoking & then just went to vaping.

That's a really nice looking website magi.

I have 'invested' in some cotton buds and am getting on a lot better with my set up, definitely going to buy a pricier kit soon though.

I looked in the mirror this morning and my teeth are SO much whiter and my skin looks five years younger than it did a month ago. I was kidding myself that my three a day habit wasn't doing me any harm, if I can see the difference in my face already what must I have been doing to my insides?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 12/04/2014 09:41

Yes nicotine does help with stress! I'm on my stupid toy computer atm so linking is a pain but if you Google 'smart drugs nicotine' you'll find some interesting stuff.

Still astonished a doctor would recommend smoking though! There are lots of ways to deal with stress that are far less likely to kill you.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 12/04/2014 10:37

This is worth a listen - Dr Neil Grunberg interview

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 12/04/2014 11:09

I haven't posted this yet on thread 5. It's very important for the future of vaping. If I haven't bored you already with it, please take a look ...

Where we're at now: The EU has now voted in favour of adopting the Tobacco Products Directive, including Article 18a (now renamed Article 20) which concerns ecigs. You can read the full text of Article 20 here. This legislation is likely to come into force in May of this year and member states will have up to 30 months to comply (but they don't have to wait that long!)

  • No device on the market today could comply with this legislation except cig-alikes with disposable cartridges - the sort produced by big tobacco and big pharma.
  • No e-liquid over 20mg/ml will be legal (18mg/ml in practice to allow for a margin of error) - an estimated one quarter of vapers use liquid above this strength and are likely to return to smoking if they cannot get it.
  • The requirement for all new devices to be approved six months before coming to market will kill innovation in the EU. Currently it is usual to see new versions of products released every few weeks.
  • The notification regime will be too expensive for small companies to comply with. 98% of the market is made up of SMEs. Meanwhile, big tobacco and pharma will have no problem absorbing the costs.
  • Restrictions on sponsorship will mean it becomes very difficult for forums, youtube channels and other sources of information to survive.

What we can do: A European Citizen's Initiative has been launched by European Free Vaping Initiative. 'The European citizens' initiative allows one million EU citizens to participate directly in the development of EU policies, by calling on the European Commission to make a legislative proposal.'

This is not just another petition. Numerous hurdles have already been cleared to set it up and secure the necessary representatives in countries across the EU. The initiative now needs 1 million 'statements of support' (basically signatures) by 25th November and for at least 7 member states to meet their 'quota' - a set number of signatures based on population.

If the required number of signatures is reached, it means that vapers themselves will have the opportunity to present their case to the EU and propose sensible legislation for ecigs to replace article 20 of the TPD.

Who should sign:

  • vapers
  • smokers, because you might want to try switching one day
  • friends and family of vapers
  • friends and family of smokers
  • people who don't like being around smokers or who worry about SHS
  • people who care about harm reduction and saving lives

How to sign:

  • Go here - www.efvi.eu/
  • Scroll down to the big green rectangle and click it
  • Fill in your info on the EU site

You will be asked to provide your full name, address and DOB. This is because this is not just another petition, it's an official EU process - they need to check you are a genuine EU citizen.

Please also ask your families, friends, colleagues etc. to sign and share on FB, Twitter or whatever else you do online.

ilovesooty · 12/04/2014 11:10

My new Vamo v5 has arrived but I can't get it to switch on. Sad

ilovesooty · 12/04/2014 11:12

Thanks Plenty

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 12/04/2014 11:16

Have you put the batteries in, sooty? Grin

I've got one on order from fasttech.

LostInWales · 12/04/2014 11:22

Done plenty. The hold big cigarette companies have over the government of countries gives me the rage. It is just so wrong.

ilovesooty · 12/04/2014 11:23

Of course.

Nennypops · 12/04/2014 11:25

Why is this in AIBU? Surely there are more appropriate forums for it?

For the traffic, Nenny, and so it doesn't disappear as it would do in chat. We were discussing asking for a vaping forum though, if you look up thread.
