What would you think if MNHQ asked you to strip for a charadee calendar

Because that's what they're asking Gransnetters to do and I think it's utterly depressing.

Although I'm not a gran even though I'm old enough I like going on the GN site because they have some interesting discussions.

One of the members came up with the idea of posing for a calendar and HQ have taken up the idea and want volunteers to have their photos taken with pieces of technology covering their "bits". This is to dispel the image that older people, ie over 45, don't know how to use technology.

So would you strip for a MN calendar and how would you feel if HQ mooted the idea?

No ageist comments please.

No.

Even with my bits covered, I'd scar people for life Hmm

scottishmummy · 04/04/2014 21:45

It's ideologically all over shop.no to p3 campaign but yay to granny tits oot

I'd think;

'no, fuck off. What a stupid, unoriginal, crappy and insulting idea. I hope this is an April Fool because it is just plain embarrassing for MNHQ otherwise'

Martorana · 04/04/2014 23:57

It's wrong on so many levels......

I so would Grin but sales would plummet immediately my page was revealed, as I am not remotely appealing when "revealed in all my Glory" Grin
DH loves me, thank Gawd but as for the rest of the unsuspecting calendar perusing world - some things are just better left unseen Grin
Isn't the "nudie ordinary women" calendar thing passe now anyway? it's been done to death. Surely they could come up with something a bit more original Confused than that...

squoosh · 05/04/2014 00:28

I was just today thinking that the world doesn't have enough naked charity calendars.

Martorana · 05/04/2014 00:43

At the risk of sounding like a humourless, strident feminist again, isn't it sad how many women are so negative about the way they look? (I include myself- I would, as my father would have said, eat wasps rather than pose for a nude photo, even with strategically placed mice). But there's something wrong, surely, when women's first reaction is not "bloody hell, this is a crap, reactionary, sexist idea" but "oh,no, my body isn't good enough to do something like this"

Caitlyn2014 · 05/04/2014 03:30

Gransnet HQ didnt come up with the idea, one of the members did and GNHQ picked up he ball and ran with it.

Caitlyn2014 · 05/04/2014 03:33

And it orginated from the 'bare faced selfies' on FB a few weeks ago, it was a reaction to the negative hoohaa surrounding them. Not many people are interested in doing the calender.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 05/04/2014 07:08

As someone of an age to be invited to participate.....

Yes, pathetically unoriginal and boring, and done to death and not even Helen Mirren and Mrs Weasley can make it either funny, or interesting, or anything other than very sad.

Yes, mixed messages. It's OK for over 45s to get their baps out, but we go MIG 40 with our heckles on fire if page 3 is mentioned?

Given the calibre of the twats that came across (some of whom sadly never left) over PenisBeaker, do we really think that middle aged folds are going to attract a better class of troll or something?

And to suggest that anyone over the age of 40 doesn't know how to use technology is just insulting.

I trust HQ have said no? Please god, let there be some sanity left in this place.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 05/04/2014 07:08

It was a reaction to the negative hoohaa surrounding them (the selfies)

And how exactly was this going to be less negative?

Pathetic.

HowContraryMary · 05/04/2014 07:14

And also to turn on its head the idea that older people (and one person we spoke to who is working to get "older" people online is targetting those above 45...) cannot be internet savvy and up to speed with the latest technology.

Carigransnet - agism alive and well there dearie Grin

Ecclefechan · 05/04/2014 08:07

Martorana -exactly! Reading the self-deprecating comments on these thread has been disheartening.

DrankSangria -exactly!

And, yes, the idea came from a GransNetter but it's HQ that have grasped it and are trying to make it a reality which is insulting to it' membership both over here and over there.

Hoppinggreen · 05/04/2014 08:12

If they want to do it it's up to them but personally I think it's boring and has been done to death.
Also, does anyone actually think that over 45's can't use technology? I git my mum an iPad for her 70th birthday - she would probably be quite happy to pose naked with it if asked nicely!!

SirChenjin · 05/04/2014 08:24

when women's first reaction is not "bloody hell, this is a crap, reactionary, sexist idea" but "oh,no, my body isn't good enough to do something like this"

Interesting. If men were asked to do something like this, would they think "bloody hell, this is a crap, reactionary, sexist idea" or "is my body good enough to do something like this"?

I would suggest the answer to both would either be "no" or Confused

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/04/2014 08:26

Terrible idea, done to death, insulting to the over 45s (I hadn't realised I was part of the Gransnet demographic till just now). Also, as others have said too, totally at odds with the No More Page 3 campaign.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 05/04/2014 08:50

Quite.

HowContraryMary · 05/04/2014 08:56

My first reaction was "Some people will do anything for attention", I have a little more dignity and decorum than to get my arse and tits out in public. With or without a strategically placed mouse.

LordPalmerston · 05/04/2014 08:56

Oh god. I hate them.

MistressDeeCee · 05/04/2014 09:05

At the decrepit age of 50 I know very well how to use technology. & even if I didn't, why would getting my boobs out (what is it, 'Techno Tits 2015?') have any link to this, or putting a message across about improving technology skills ? Would men be asked to take part in a cock calendar because they can't use Excel, or something? Its crass dated and sexist, find another way to promote enhancing technology skills fgs

(my boobs may be hanging down to the keyboard, but I am NOT using them to typeGrin )

Lovecat · 05/04/2014 09:16

Horrendous idea. I'm 47, not going to be a Gran for a VERY long time and I feckin' well know how to use technology!

As to the whole business of a nuddy calendar - tawdry, tedious, overdone, cliche, dull dull dull... and how bloody depressing that that's the first idea that sprang to mind.

I bloody love my body, but the idea that I should display it to the general public to raise awareness/charity funds is just... no. Just no.

MusicalEndorphins · 05/04/2014 09:21

No thanks, I don't need to be semi-naked to show I know my way around technology.

Regardless of age.
Can't they stick up photo's of gransnetters at their jobs, in science and technology, if it is indeed their brains and expertise they want to display?

Martorana · 05/04/2014 10:29

"Can't they stick up photo's of gransnetters at their jobs, in science and technology, if it is indeed their brains and expertise they want to display?"

Now that is a very good idea.
