What would you think if MNHQ asked you to strip for a charadee calendar

Because that's what they're asking Gransnetters to do and I think it's utterly depressing.

Although I'm not a gran even though I'm old enough I like going on the GN site because they have some interesting discussions.

One of the members came up with the idea of posing for a calendar and HQ have taken up the idea and want volunteers to have their photos taken with pieces of technology covering their "bits". This is to dispel the image that older people, ie over 45, don't know how to use technology.

So would you strip for a MN calendar and how would you feel if HQ mooted the idea?

No ageist comments please.

Feminiism is about more than women making choices. It's about making choices that are good for women, not just one individual woman. Just because the person making the choice is a woman doesn't make it automatically a feminist choice.

SirChenjin · 04/04/2014 18:39

Well, you succeeded.

Bifauxnen · 04/04/2014 18:40

It's about women's liberation. A choice isn't feminist just because a woman made it. There's a larger framework that needs to be taken into consideration.

13Stitches · 04/04/2014 18:40

Pretty sure my mum's on gransnet, and 100% sure she'd be involved in that! Blush

I'm fairly ambivalent about the concept.

ballsballsballs · 04/04/2014 18:43

Oh FFS. Really?

MoominIsEightNinthsManatee · 04/04/2014 18:44

"It's about making choices that are good for women"

As dictated by others.

MoominIsEightNinthsManatee · 04/04/2014 18:45

My point is, we've gone from being told what to do by men, to supposedly benefit men, to being told what to do by women, to supposedly benefit women.

PortofinoRevisited · 04/04/2014 18:49

I am 45! I buy technology/IT solutions for a large Phone/Internet/Digital TV provider. I prefer to keep my tits to myself.

It's using women's naked bodies (no matter how covered) for publicity and money. Same old, same old.

No-ones telling you what to do. They're pointing out the lack of imagination involved.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/04/2014 18:52

I have felt similarly, when reading or participating in some threads on here, Moomin. I've been told I'm a step ford wife, because I changed my name when I married, I've been told that I shouldn't be allowed to use my choice of title on forms, and that I should stop shaving my minge, so that my dses will learn that a hairy minge is a natural and beautiful thing (frankly I can't afford the therapy that my 16, 18 and 20 year old would need if I started telling them about my minge and it's hairiness or otherwise - never mind the therapy they'd need if I showed them it).

I mostly steer clear now.

Goblinchild · 04/04/2014 18:52

'Pretty sure my mum's on gransnet, and 100% sure she'd be involved in that!'

You'll know next Christmas, when she sends calendars to all the family.

Bif saying it's unimaginative is fine, it's true. It doesn't strike me as a feminist issue though. No-one is forcing anyone to take part, no-one is forcing you to buy the calendar or even look at it. If women want to take part in it, that's their choice. I disagree with anyone telling me what I should and shouldn't do for the benefit of others - strikes me as being in the same vein as telling gay people they shouldn't enjoy musicals (or indeed, have a musical wedding, as was said last week), because of a perceived harm to other gay people.

126sticks · 04/04/2014 19:00

It will get them more hits, which is what they are about nowadays.

TiggyKBE · 04/04/2014 19:01

...to have their photos taken with pieces of technology covering their "bits".

Anybody want to see me naked but for a 5 1/4 inch floppy?

Thought not. All a bit passée now anyhow.

I do wonder why the people who whinge about MNHQ are still here.

gabcat · 04/04/2014 19:02

I would if I wasn't pregnant !

Are there going to be any Grandpas in it?

Bifauxnen · 04/04/2014 19:04

Looking back at the thread, no-ones told anyone what to do. There's one snidey comment and that's it. That's pretty good going and all very civil imo.

exexpat · 04/04/2014 19:05

I'd think it was horribly unoriginal and would not be good publicity for the site.
