sold something on gumtree, for cash, 10 days ago, AIBU to NOT accept it back?

have nc'd for this as it is making me feel uneasy

sold one of my old handbags on gumtree, to a girl who lived about 100 miles away. (I say girl, she looked late teens and could drive) about a week and a half ago

it was a designer one, an old Louis Vuitton i had had for about ten years that was quite ugly, was a gift from an ex, and i hated and never used she really wanted it, I offered to send it to her and she could pay by paypal, as I felt bad her coming all that way, but she insisted, oh no its fine, I really want it today

so i said, ok fine. she turned up, was really happy with it and paid cash. I even knocked off £20 off the asking price for her petrol as she was a nice sweet girl and clearly absolutely loved the bag

then today I get a text out of the blue along the lines of "my mum found out I drove all that way to buy the bag, she is not happy with me, she wants me to return it, I am so sorry" etc

I have ignored it so far as tbh for one, I don't want it back, and for 2, I cant afford to pay her back as the reason I was selling it is because I am skint ! I am also 9 months preg and due to give birth any day and don't really need the stress tbh

haven't replied, I don't know what to say to her, I mean how is it my problem if her mum's pissed off with her :o fgs she could drive, so she must be at least 17, she is an adult IMO and it was her choice to buy it I am not a horrible person and I do feel bad as I don't want to cause her problems

She saw and inspected it, she bought it and that's that.

Tell her if her mums annoyed with her then she needs to sell it on herself, you don't want it back.

Tell her you have already spent the money and wish her good luck in selling it on should she wish too. Plus she may even make some money out of it seeing as you knocked 20 quid off the asking price?

I would reply and say you are unable to accept a return. She purchased the bag and if she is old enough to drive then she is old enough to make her own decisions. If she needs it gone then it's down to her to re advertise it

Say no of course! There's nothing wrong with it, which is only way she could return it imo.

You offered to send it to her, the fact her mum is annoyed at her for driving to get it is not your problem. It's out of order for her to try and get money off you knowing you're heavily pregnant. Tell her you've already spent the money on stuff for the baby.

I would contact Gumtree and find out what there Terms & Conditions are. I would imagine there is a certain time period in which the buyer can request a refund but I'm not sure. I, personally, would suggest the girl resells it herself as it is now her responsibility.

Anyway, I think you need to be firm and just text her back and say 'sorry, not possible to refund her, hope she is able to re-sell it'. If it is the driving all that way that the Mum is unhappy with, it's too late to reverse that! I wonder if she uised her Mum's petrol? Anyway, none ofit is your responsibility. The terms are clear

Not your problem at all. She obviously uses gumtree as she found your item on there, so no reason why she can't sell it on herself presumably.

I would just ignore her. She made the decision to drive that distance and buy it. Not like you've taken money from a child. If she can't afford it then she can sell it.

I don't sell on Gumtree but I know they don't have a feedback system like eBay and she paid you cash so it can't be reversed. She knows your address but lives very far away so is unlikely to visit, so realistically there shouldn't be much comeback for just saying no.

The cynic in me says she probably wanted it for a one-off event, used it for that and is trying to pull a fast one by returning it for her money back. But then I might have spent too many years selling on eBay where this happens a lot.

I'd ignore the message. There's no feedback system for Gumtree so there's nothing she can do.

I doubt that she's got any comeback as she collected the bag & therefore saw it before buying.

I don't get the connection between her mum being mad at her for driving so far therefore she should return the bag?
