to think my neighbour has overreacted?

My MIL has a bit of a mouth on her, and yesterday, shouted at our neighbour who accused her of driving too fast into our close as she was putting her kids in the car. MIL shouldn't have said what she did so I went round to try and smooth things over as MIL was really upset.
I spoke to the neighbour and pointed out that MIL was so upset and that she would never hurt a child, but the woman was still very angry about it as it was in front of her children and she was on her own drive. I said I didn't want to argue and she said she didn't care as she had called the police! Wtf! I told her if she did that I'd tell them she didn't supervise her kids properly as I've seen them run out into the road.
I thought she was bluffing but there was a police car there just now! AIBU to think it's a waste of police time if she's just having a moan about my MIL?

Living proof that money can't buy you class!

GlassCaseofEmotion · 28/03/2014 19:52

Surely you mean million pesos?
I'd be annoyed if I paid a mil for a house but still needed to park on the street....

Perfectlypurple · 28/03/2014 19:52

Total wind up. Almost had us until the million pound house.

CuttingOutTheCrap · 28/03/2014 19:53

What exactly do you want the landlord to do?

gordyslovesheep · 28/03/2014 19:55

mentions 'million pound houses' totally over plays hairy hand ...

to think my neighbour has overreacted?
phantomnamechanger · 28/03/2014 19:55

actually, I think probably quite a lot of people with million pound houses also have CCTV.

come on all you millionaire MNers, hands up who has CCTV? Grin

this is a good laugh to start the weekend, it cannot be real, surely NO ONE is that daft?

"MIL is lovely", erm, right! Hmm

Spottyandstripped · 28/03/2014 19:55

Ok ok I confess!!!

I'm a poster of many years but I've name changed for this, my first ever reverse AIBU!!!

All this happened to me, this week! The police came today and took statements from me and my mum, who witnessed it all, and said that the woman concerned was likely to get a fixed penalty thing of £80! I suddenly doubted myself! Was I over reacting? Was it really that bad? But it is! And she really DID email our divvy of a landlord who immediately emailed the letting agent! I'm hopping mad about it a and very upset, but you know how sometimes you doubt yourself?

Million pound houses are completely feasible, doesn't mean a thing - any a-hole can make money.

They're still completely barking if OP is actually a real live human and not a hairy little monster.

ChasedByBees · 28/03/2014 19:57

Well reverses are really bloody irritating. Is the daughter-in-law harassing you then? In that case, report her to the police too.

Spottyandstripped · 28/03/2014 19:57

And the houses really ARE that expensive! It's a long story how we happen to be in one, but we are. The sewer-mouthed neighbour appears to be the matriarch of a successful family business with a royal warrant, no less. But god knows they've come from under a rock when they started!

CuttingOutTheCrap · 28/03/2014 19:58

Haha!

Did the landlord email the letting agent because they took the loon's complaint seriously? I hope not!

phantomnamechanger · 28/03/2014 19:59

so you are the victim, OP? or is this still a wind up?

Rauma · 28/03/2014 19:59

Your MIL was wrong and so we're you for saying her kids run on the road, didn't you go round to sort this out? Probably just made it worse.

diddl · 28/03/2014 20:00

Well I'm lost now!

Who said what to whom, who was driving & where does your mum fit in??!!

phantomnamechanger · 28/03/2014 20:00

just a thought OP but are you sure neighbour and her MIL from rentagob are not, you know, MNers.....because they may well not take too kindly to reading about themselves on here!

Spottyandstripped · 28/03/2014 20:01

I just couldn't get over how a woman in her 60s, all nicely turned out, could suddenly turn! She didn't just say it once, she went bananas, "fuck off you silly whore, you silly fucking slag, control your fucking brats" etc at full volume! I could hardly speak but I managed to get in a "do you kiss your grandchildren with that mouth?" Grin

The DIL attempting to justify it was even more extraordinary! I told the police everything and they took a very dim view. I was shaking and crying and the kids were upset!

Don't worry about the letting agent, they can't do anything without a proper reason. Record allincidents and keep the police involved. If your landlord is aa friend of theirs use this as leverage for a fantastic reference and guaranteed deposit return, then get the hell out of there. What are the other neighbours like?

phantomnamechanger · 28/03/2014 20:02

OP was the sworn at neighbour, swearer was OPs neighour's naice MIL, OPs own mother witnessed the whole sorry debacle clear as mud

CoolaSchmoola · 28/03/2014 20:02

If my MIL swore at one of my neighbours she would be the one I'd have a go at, and she wouldn't be welcome back.

I'd be mortified by her behaviour.

She's not lovely, she's a foul mouthed common, self important old hag, and you are disgusting.

Guess what - everyone in your street is judging you for associating with someone who behaves like your mil.

You are merrily judging your NORMAL neighbours, and the rest of your neighbours will be dining out on the 'common woman at number x who thinks she fits in!' and laughing at you whilst praying that you will move away and thus get rid of your vile mil who lowers the tone of the whole area.

Yes open, you are that neighbour...

CoolaSchmoola · 28/03/2014 20:04

Epic cross post fail! In my defence I'm lying in the dark on toddlers floor typing very very slowly!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 28/03/2014 20:10

Are your neighbours embarrassed of you? You sound very common, surely you stick out like a sore thumb in such a nice area?

MamaMumra · 28/03/2014 20:10

Still Hmm

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 28/03/2014 20:13

Oops, x posted. What did the letting agent say? Tell them to stuff, you're the one being harassed.

Spottyandstripped · 28/03/2014 20:14

Ok so I haven't over reacted. I just got a bit wobbly when I thought of the gran getting an ASBO! If they were annoyed before, they're going to be orbiting the earth when the police call them!
