To be shocked at neighbour??

I was having a very rare chat with my downstairs neighbour, I'm in a duplex and she's in a flat underneath with her front door under the stairs to my place. Two very separate buildings really and you can hear absolutely nothing from one to the other.
We were talking about ovens and I was saying I'm a pretty useless cook but really been trying this year, something was said about what shelf is best and she said "because heat rises", at this stage DD was getting impatient and I just made a stupid joke about how that'll come in handy for me next winter (given that she lives underneath), not even true because I had my heating on loads this winter and I only said it out of silliness.

Well I've just gotten a text from her saying "Domestic, I've been thinking after our discussion earlier and I'm feeling a little hard done by if I'm honest. Perhaps we could have a chat later on and come up with the fairest way of dealing with the issue regarding heating"

What the actual fuck, I don't know what to say back but I really can't afford to pay her for having her heat on just because heat rises??

Cheeky cow! I would just ignore it.

ohfourfoxache · 25/03/2014 13:03

Er, ok.....

She sounds batshit.....

picnicbasketcase · 25/03/2014 13:04

'I do not benefit in any way from the heating in your flat, I had my own heating on all through the winter to keep warm. I thought I'd better point this out just in case you're not actually joking.'

flyingspaghettimonster · 25/03/2014 13:04

I'd mention the air con bill if you are in the USA... Ours sly rocketed after out downstairs neighbour kept her heating on what seemed like all year...

Nennypops · 25/03/2014 13:04

Ask her what issue. Her heat will rise and disappear (unless she gets insulation) entirely irrespective of whether you live above her or not.

Or you could wind her up by saying that you have had to incur bills putting fans on because too much heat is coming up from her flat, and asking what she is planning to do about that.

TheNightIsDark · 25/03/2014 13:04

Shock She has to be joking. Seriously that's just odd!

Text her ..There is no issue regarding heating, it was was a silly throwaway comment on my behalf, I thought you would realise I was joking

dashoflime · 25/03/2014 13:06

Ahahahaha! What a fruit loop.

My downstairs neighbour once complained because a tomato fell off the tomato plant on our balcony, into her yard and her grandson almost ate it Confused

Your neighbour is even madder than that!

rollonthesummer · 25/03/2014 13:06

Have you replied to her text?

TheProsAndConsOfHitchhiking · 25/03/2014 13:07

crazy Grin

shoom · 25/03/2014 13:07

Or you could wind her up by saying that you have had to incur bills putting fans on because too much heat is coming up from her flat, and asking what she is planning to do about that.

Oh please do this! It could be done in a "see we're both joking" way.

ExitPursuedByABear · 25/03/2014 13:08

She is clearly a loon.

MoominsYonisAreScary · 25/03/2014 13:08

How odd, text her and ask what the fuck she is on about

TinyTear · 25/03/2014 13:10

ha! although I do benefit from my downstairs neighbour's heat... when she is away for a week my DD's room is about 17 degrees, when she is in it's 20 degrees (baby monitor so I can tell...)

ClownsLeftJokersRight · 25/03/2014 13:10

BrilliantGrin Oh PLEASE have the chat (and be updating us on what is said).

You could always quote Scotty from Star Trek, 'Ye canna change the laws of physics...'

dammitsue · 25/03/2014 13:11

Tell her you use her WiFi too!

NurseyWursey · 25/03/2014 13:11

Wow

She's a crazy lady!

Quinteszilla · 25/03/2014 13:14

Or tell her that the ground insulates more than the loft, so really she should be concerned that the hot air she makes goes through your flat and contributes to global warming.

DomesticDisgrace · 25/03/2014 13:14

Haven't replied yet, I'm really annoyed! It was quite obviously just a stupid throwaway comment to end a seriously mundane conversation!
I think she's a little bit peculiar but this is just cheeky and I wouldn't mind but she knows I'm stoney broke as I had to sell my car a few weeks ago because I couldn't afford it and rarely used it!

Think I need to be passive aggressive in this instance, maybe "Haha good one, nice chatting to you earlier :)"

Grr!!

OP posts:
Quinteszilla · 25/03/2014 13:15

Yes, I think that is best.

Pigletin · 25/03/2014 13:16

Tell her that even you can't fight the laws of physics :) Your neighbor is a tool!

DomesticDisgrace · 25/03/2014 13:16

No actually I think I'll drop down to her later when I get my nerve up and just be really nice and explain I was making a stupid joke. Just in case she is actually a few sambos short of a picnic!
