Why do some people feel the need to put every little thing on it?

I don't get it.

Who cares if you,re going a walk, or watching something on telly...

I had a facebook account once and deleted it because I kept getting tagged and didn't want to know everything my grown up children were doing and I certainly didn't want them to know what I was doing.

I would have been horrified when I was a teenager if everyone knew everything I was doing every day.

People use it in different ways. You could block the people who annoy you. And no one forces you to be on it.

My mum cares, my dearest friend cares, my close family care. Facebook keeps us close despite being thousands of miles apart.

How much of a life have YOU got if you're on there yourself reading those posts then ranting here about them?

Facebook is a great way of keeping in touch with people, but like you OP I don't understand why some people need to detail every single moment of their lives on it. OK if something big and important happens, but I really couldn't give a shit about the mundane stuff, people will be detailing their bowel movements on there before long.

Yeah they do have a life on fb, maybe that's what it's for, it certainly isn't to keep in touch with faraway family, all their family live with them, and know first hand whether they,re having a glass of wine or what they had for lunch. I get it's a good way to keep in touch over distances, but not when there are no faraway families on it, all seems a bit desperate to me.

I'm getting steadily pissed off with all the complaints about bloody Facebook.
If you don't like it, don't use it! Plenty of us manage perfectly well without it.
And if you want to complain about FB, complain ON FB, not here FFS!

I did have somebody post a huge turd once.. no amount of brain bleach can unsee it.

I wonder if the people saying you are being unreasonable OP are the ones who document every tiny little detail of their lives on there?....

I think people who do this are trying to make people believe that their lives are more interesting than they actually are.

One of my fb friends put that she'd cleaned a bit of dirt off the telly. I wasn't quite sure why I needed to know that.

these days i have cancelled my personal fb and just use it for business.
when i had the personal one, there was one guy who used to literally put everything on there, eg 'waiting for a train to Glasgow' 'on train now' 'arrived at 'Glasgow', you know as though his experiences were only validated through facebook?
still if it kept him happy......

I agree about the selfie thing it seems to be grating on people it will go away soon , but tbh what do you want people to put on facebook some are damned if they do damned if they don't, my facebook is mundane and meh I dont live out any drama on it and people are stil moaning about the mundane we dont know what you want

I think what I really mean is, aren't people embarrassed about it? To think oh I,ve just had a cup of tea/ ate lunch/ had a bath.....I mean don't they see how attention seeking it is to put it on fb like anyone cares (mystified here)....

Fabulous, no the person I,m thinking about specifically is really nice and I think a lot of them, I,m just kind of mortified for them they feel the need to post mundane shite everyday like that's all they,ve got to say on life.

As others have said, manage your news feed more proactively and then you will only see updates from people you are actually interested in. Or don't use it at all. People are free to use FB in any way they like. If they enjoy posting updates about watching TV then that's their prerogative!

Do you only have an account so that you can sneer at people and be judgey? Or do you use it to provide updates and post photos? If so, I hope you ensure that your updates are suitably interesting and informative.

And before you ask, yes I do use FB a lot, but not to report what I had for lunch or what I am watching on TV.

I actually think people have come to realise that it isn't wise to put all of their business on Facebook. It was much worse when I first joined in 2007 but I have now noticed that not many people actually write a status anymore, they just "like" a page or a photo. It isn't really the done thing anymore to write EVERYTHING about your life on Facebook. Of course you'll get the odd one who will. I detest people who use FB to communicate with their partners who are probably sitting next to them. "Hi darling thanks so much for the presents today" first sign of a crap relationship is when you have to communicate with your husband via Facebook!

I much prefer the statuses about mundane activities than the passive aggressive statuses or the attention seeking statuses.

A "friend" of mine who I have been having a few issues with recently posted:

"I'm gonna have a friends clear out, some people are doing my head in"

She then deleted me (I didn't notice, a mutual friend bought my attention to it)
I text her, saying I know we have had a few issues recently but I didn't expect to be deleted! She replied oh I didn't mean to delete you (haha she must think I'm stupid).

She the re-added me and posted the status:

"Do you have to flip a coin to decide which face to use each day?"

I think its time for me to a)get new friends and b) deactivate Facebook.
