...to feel strongly that women should not wash their private parts with soap, nor use feminine freshness wipes?

And the reason this is bothering me now is because I have had an argument with my (otherwise lovely) "waxing technician" because every time I go for a brazilian she insists on wiping me, inside my vagina after every spread of wax, with these packeted wipes.

How is it that we are in 2014 and the medical profession has not done a good enough job to make women aware that using products which remove the oils/mucous from places like the urethra/vagina/anus, causes problems with bacterial infection?

If only OP's mother had stuck to calling it a foo-foo like normal people and not tried to be cool and trendy with 'vagina' this confusion would never have arisen Wink

RaRaTheNoisyLion · 21/03/2014 20:11

Pubic hair is also a protective barrier btw!

Mintyy · 21/03/2014 20:13

I guess its wrong but I find this thread faintly amusing.

JohnnyBarthes · 21/03/2014 20:13

I think it's easier to maintain vulval and anal hygiene when one bathes rather than showers - if you have daily baths you don't really have to think about it.

Talkie well of course I have a tail. What kind of weirdo do you take me for? Hmm

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/03/2014 20:14

bial

Yes, knickers off.

Goblinchild · 21/03/2014 20:15

I'm not Mintyy, not in the slightest.
I'm on to my third page of notes and diagrams and euphemisms.

kungfupannda · 21/03/2014 20:15

I'm confused.

In your OP you say "I have had an argument with my (otherwise lovely) "waxing technician" because every time I go for a brazilian she insists on wiping me, inside my vagina after every spread of wax, with these packeted wipes."

Later on, you say "the wipe happened in a space of seconds - I wans't able to prevent it. I asked her not to do it and she said it was the only way to wax. So we stopped the wax."

So does she do it every time? Or did she just do it once and take you by surprise?

Because if you keep going to her and asking her to wax inside your labia, she is presumably going to presume that, if you're fine with wax being placed in that area, you're also fine with her using a wipe to clean it away.

I can't possibly imagine asking anyone other than DP or a medical professional to fiddle about inside my labia, but if that's what you want, and she's happy to do it, then that's a matter for you. But I don't understand why you're then getting worked up about another part of the process.

Either have those hairs waxed and accept that she's going to need to wipe the wax away somehow, or leave well alone.

Should I stop brushing my teeth before cunnilingus/analingus?

I wouldn't want to cause any upsets.

pettybetty · 21/03/2014 20:20

I have done nearly everything mentioned on this thread as things to avoid on and in my bits (including plain soap, perfumed soap, full waxes, shaving creams, hair removal creams, minty tea tree wash, deep heat and toothpaste included) and have never got thrush yet.

The only thing I haven't ever tried is relying on water alone - cannot imagine feeling clean with only water. It would be like trying to wash dirty dishes without fairy (or other) liquid surely?

Pleasejustgo · 21/03/2014 20:20

Mintyy

I'm quite literally in tears and I'm not sure whether they're the happy or sad variety.

Still processing the caps lock on something down the lines of THE LIPS ARE NOT YOUR VULVA or something to that effect.

Needlesswidow · 21/03/2014 20:20

Kungfupanda most of the time I have a bikini wax - ie around the upper legs. This is the first time I've actually had a Brazilian. She wipes me with the wipes during the bikini wax too, around my upper legs and vaginal lips etc. I just don't like it.

Do people washing their arse with soap actually rub a bar of soap up there? Or sort of lather-up their hand?
(Disclaimer: I put a non-soap product in the bath which I think takes care of all cleaning issues!)

AnnieIncognito · 21/03/2014 20:21

Gah! I am always late to the bunfights. I was busy vigorously soaping up my vulva and anus so as not to be a dirty girl!

OP - Your fanjo, your choice. My fanjo, my choice!

squoosh · 21/03/2014 20:23

'This is like that episode of friends when Joey discovers that not all tailors do 'cupping'.'

That's what I was reminded of too!

pettybetty · 21/03/2014 20:24

Disclaimer - my bits do not in any way resemble dirty dishes - except maybe in some unforgiving changing room mirrors... Grin

Shlurpbop · 21/03/2014 20:24

"Thanks Talkie. I did have a vision of the OP spread-legged and the technician fisting her with a wipe. Several times.
Odd places, beauty salons. Especially those with big windows."

This made me laugh so much, I dislodged my mooncup Blush

MrsWedgeAntilles · 21/03/2014 20:24

I'd just like to add my two pence worth to this.
I'm a sexual health nurse and I've been up close to more sets of female genitalia than Hugh Hefner. It doesn't matter what you wash them with (including plain water) they all smell pretty much the same.
If you want the effect that some of the PPs think they're getting by washing with perfumed stuff you'll need to hang a Magic Tree from your cervix.

JohnnyBarthes · 21/03/2014 20:25

I use half a bar of Shield up my arse, twice weekly.

I froth my muff up with a good squirt of Fairy on a daily basis - any other brand barely covers half a lab per squirt. Thank goodness for Nanette Newman.

kungfupannda · 21/03/2014 20:26

Well it's a simple choice - don't get waxed, or do it yourself in the way that you want it done.

I don't get waxed, but I would imagine that the wipes are a standard part of the process, and to remove stray wax.

Your OP seems to be about some general point of information - women should be more aware of the dangers of feminine hygiene products etc. But actually, it's about a very specific situation that very few people will find themselves in - most people probably don't have wax applied to/wiped off that area. An occasional wipe for this purpose is highly unlikely to cause any problems, but if you don't like it, don't get waxed there!

MollyHooper · 21/03/2014 20:27

I think the best thing you can do is stop getting Brazilian waxes in future if this is making you uncomfortable.

As others have said, she needs to wipe the places the wax has been.

Why are you fine with wax being in the places you don't like these wipes to be?

GeraldineFangedVagine · 21/03/2014 20:28

A vigorous scrub with a pumice stone was what the internet reccommended to me followed by rotational rubbing with a freshly cut lime. No soap for me. It was all in an internet vag health article i was reading.

Iggi101 · 21/03/2014 20:30

MrsWedge I have a smear next week and a spare Yankee candle air freshener, a match made in heaven I think..

Mintyy · 21/03/2014 20:30

JohnnyBarthes - are you pissed already or has someone very unfunny hacked into your account?

JohnnyBarthes · 21/03/2014 20:30

MrsWedge I once accidentally sniffed another woman's knickers (don't ask). They did NOT smell like mine. Maybe one's own aroma stands out against other women's?
