...to feel strongly that women should not wash their private parts with soap, nor use feminine freshness wipes?

And the reason this is bothering me now is because I have had an argument with my (otherwise lovely) "waxing technician" because every time I go for a brazilian she insists on wiping me, inside my vagina after every spread of wax, with these packeted wipes.

How is it that we are in 2014 and the medical profession has not done a good enough job to make women aware that using products which remove the oils/mucous from places like the urethra/vagina/anus, causes problems with bacterial infection?

I don't think washing the whole general area with soap is a problem. I assume most women do without problems. Inserting soap into vaginas/anuses is likely to cause an issue I'm sure, so don't do that.

The therapist wipes situation is a personal choice. I'm assuming the therapist is trained.

I have more of an issue with the marketing on special 'scented' products for feminine hygiene. Overpriced and unnecessary and I also think it is poor for women's self image. Normal soap products are all that is needed.

Oldgrandmama I do hope your cat made it through the night!

I douche regularly (quick flush out with the showerhead) and always after sex (otherwise, can get very smelly). I also wash my fanjo, humber bridge and bumhole with soap. I rarely get thrush or cystitis and my bits don't smell.

Iggi101, unfortunately my cat woke up from her valium imposed snooze just as I tried to take the 'intimate' photo ...

I can't be bothered reading 8 pages about fanny flaps, but it was always my understanding that you just don't put body wash/soap actually INSIDE your orifices, i.e vagina and anus. But surely the surrounding landscape still needs products to wash the dirt and sweat and 'stuff' away?

I have always washed everything on the outside with regular shower gel and have never suffered with thrush, cystitis or any kind of infection, though I understand I may just be lucky as I have a friend who is very careful about products but gets terrible cystitis sometimes. I don't wax though. I had a wax once, and the regrowth was so painfully itchy that I once had to scratch my muff in public, right as my cousin was walking past. Never again!

I may regret asking this, but where/what is one's humber bridge?

Rebeccalikesgin · 24/03/2014 21:50

Well this is just bloody hilarious. I'm off to wash my bits now. Only on the outside. With dove soap.
EBearhug I believe ones Humber bridge is otherwise known as the perineum. Hmm

EBearhug I believe ones Humber bridge is otherwise known as the perineum.

Funnily enough, we were apparently moving our perineums (perinea?) around in my yoga class this evening. And doing bridges.

NoodleOodle · 24/03/2014 22:17

Not read entire thread but this is the most concerning part of the OP:

Worried that a grown woman doesn't know the difference between labia/lips/vagina/vulva.

CuntyBunty · 24/03/2014 22:27

I know the Humber Bridge as the "chin rest".

Curlyweasel · 25/03/2014 10:59

Yes, Humber Bridge so called because it links Hull (which supposedly smells of poo) with Grimsby (which smells of fish). Completely wrong of course because it's about a 30 minute drive to Grimsby when you get off the bridge, but it's always made me laugh anyway (well, since I stopped being so earnest about such things).

Chin rest HAHAHA! x
