I even saw an 18 month old drinking coke from a can... Confused

I think I will treat my toddler to a froot shoot tomorrow to go with his Gregg's sausage roll...

YABU - a glass of fresh juice is great for constipation. Plus really dilute squash is fine (not that dd will even entertain the idea), especially if it means they drink enough.

Coke from a can - YANBU, but then it may just have been a one off tasting from parents can, in which case it's not going to kill them.

Moonfacesmother · 21/03/2014 18:49

Mine always drank milk, water, watered down apple juice and occasionally if out would have some of my diet coke. It was a very occasional thing. I was probably judged!

bluehearted · 21/03/2014 18:49

CJ I am obviously a terrible mother!! I wondered whether the op would hate juice as well... Grin

Boring wind-up

Juice tends to be once a day and 2 or 3 cups of water too.

2beornot · 21/03/2014 18:49

Agree with mrslion.

Why is milk ok but not (diluted) fruit juice for example. Similar sugar content, different vitamins/minerals.

aderynlas · 21/03/2014 18:50

If you think having a drink of squash is terrible parenting you are going to struggle as the three year old decides to have afew chips.

YouTheCat · 21/03/2014 18:50

Gimme, children under 5 are supposed to have full fat milk. They need that fat to help their brains develop as well as other things.

Tanacot · 21/03/2014 18:50

GimmeDaBoobehz, NHS guidelines are to give full fat only until over two years and skimmed milk only suitable for over fives.

Tanacot · 21/03/2014 18:51

Sorry, crosspost.

curiousgeorgie · 21/03/2014 18:54

In an ideal world children would eat a perfect diet... But they aren't all willing to and sometimes you have to give in.

My DD loves water, so I guess you'd approve. But a lot of children don't.

Is it really necessary to be so judgey?!

Guitargirl · 21/03/2014 18:55

I think you must have led a very sheltered life if you think that giving a 2.5 year old some juice is 'terrible parenting'.

GimmeDaBoobehz · 21/03/2014 18:55

Oh yes you but bare in mind it's not made for human children, it's made for young cows.

So large amounts (I've seen about a pint being given to a 2 year old) just seems way too much to me.

GimmeDaBoobehz · 21/03/2014 18:56

But yes a little cup of milk in the morning or night is fine.

GingerMaman · 21/03/2014 18:57

Yabu. Fruit and veggie smoothies are perfectly fine

momb · 21/03/2014 18:58

My lot never liked coke much, until I put a little JD in it....with the added benefit that they slept well in spite of the caffeine.

MommyBird · 21/03/2014 18:59

Here..have my first Biscuit

Onsera3 · 21/03/2014 19:00

Someone who would give coke might be making other bad parenting choices. But I know some people whom I would consider good parents who give squash or juice. So while those are things that I wouldn't drink or give to DS, I don't equate them with bad parenting.

So YABU.

pianodoodle · 21/03/2014 19:00

DD only stopped drinking from a bottle at bed time at 2.5.

I later found out on here that's the parenting equivalent of B.O Grin

Ho hum... but terrible parenting to give some juice?

Terrible parenting?

Bollocks.

HandN · 21/03/2014 19:01

Mine won't touch water, so they have milk, squash and dilute juice :) ... I'm so terrible Grin

BolshierAyraStark · 21/03/2014 19:01

The only thing I class as a no no is Gin & that is because it's mine, HTH Grin

Finola1step · 21/03/2014 19:03

Damn it! I knew I had forgotten something - the rum in dd's coke when she turned 3. I'm a terrible parent aren't I?
