Chippednailvarnish, mine too and the Waitrose display is not as nice as Lidl.

I like the maple and pecan plaits but think they are a little underdone, not that I mind though, cheap and extra gooey :) Haven't tried many other things, may have to drop in there, and 'test'.

Zepherial

I live in a naice area

Your Lidl (& its new bakery) is not my Lidl!

But I am going tomorrow to look for pretzels !

Aboyandabunny · 19/03/2014 19:51

The Cinnamon Whirls are fab too.

Zepherial · 19/03/2014 19:58

Aboyandabunny, sacrilege! How could I have forgotten the Cinnamon whirls? They are a bargain too.

Magimedi - it might be, I live somewhere beginning with T. I like to think it is naice, but maybe it is not that naice. Well my tiny bit is naice. digs deeper hole for saying too many naice

magimedi · 19/03/2014 20:03

My Lidl is somewhere beginning with E.

I suspect that Lidl have had a push to put bakeries into all their stores!

Am gutted we won't meet over a pretzel, croissant or doughnut!

SummerRain · 19/03/2014 20:06

Lidl bread and pastries are so yummy, I can't go in there anymore without coming out with stacks of the stuff.

The chocolate chip cookies and chocolate croissants are divine.

Zepherial · 19/03/2014 20:08

I think you maybe right, ours was due open a month ago but had some sort of delay.

However if you ever see a slightly manic person gawping at the bakery selections it may just be me!

Say hi to the mad cake lady.

The blueberry muffins are amazing too

Zepherial · 19/03/2014 20:11

I would not mind if it were expensive. Unfortunately the bloody stuff is so cheap and tempting.

I want to do that weird noise Homer Simpson does when he has seen a doughnut.

Onesleeptillwembley · 19/03/2014 20:14

Easy to ignore. Most of the items are open on the shelves - there's so many people in there that stink of foul smoke that I'd rather chew my own feet off that go near the open stuff. Having said that, I never touch those open things anyway. Urgh.

stubbornstains · 19/03/2014 20:15

The rye bread is brilliant, and goes very well with their uber- cheap smoked salmon.

Mrswellyboot · 19/03/2014 20:15

I start my shopping at the other end now and think of a great as wine and choclolates as the weight is so hard to shift, it's not worth it

I just grab coffee and muesli at the end and ignore it.

Zepherial · 19/03/2014 20:17

Problem is that I have a very small Lidl, it is hard to ignore anything.

oh God I thought I was the only one who gets disproportionately grossed out by help yourself baked goods. I usually go to Morrisons for my almond croissants as they are cheaper and come wrapped - but was about to buy one in Tesco yesterday. Then I noticed a dirty cow standing next to me FONDLE, yes fucking fondle, at length, a pain au chocolat lovingly then walk off. No she did not pick it up and buy it. Ughhhhh! Did not buy my croissant. She looked relatively normal but if she is putting her grubby mitts all over the pastries chances were my croissant was not safe either. what's so wrong with looking and not touching?

ChaffinchOfDoom · 19/03/2014 22:08

choc muffins = amazing. loads choc chips and choc/fudgy sauce in the top half
pretzels amazing
15p demi baguettes still hot from the oven? OK then!
love the diamond ciabattas, just heavenly
love it all. bless you and your bakery, Lidl

ChaffinchOfDoom · 19/03/2014 22:10

in ours the massive sugary jam doughnuts are left in their plastic wrap sheet thingy, and people do use the tongs - I keep a beady eye out

OhMerGerd · 19/03/2014 22:19

We got our bakery just before Christmas. It's in the entrance aisle so hard to bypass. I don't do unwrapped products in public displays ( don't even likr the end poking out of a bahuette flute) but the smell is very good and I have to have eaten before I go there, other wise I buy more stuff than I need.

Twighlightsparkle · 19/03/2014 22:21

I was put off seeing peoe picking the stuff up,with hands and replacing etc, bleuch. Happens in all pick your own places, drives me mad!

silverten · 20/03/2014 18:35

Lidl, Waitrose, naice or nasty, I still find the idea of food that's lying around uncovered to be really, really grim.
The flies. The people. The general slow-curling-up-ness.

Blee.

MrsSparkles · 20/03/2014 18:49

YABVU - our Lidl's bakery has been being built for about 4 months and still no sign of it opening I don't want to hear what I'm missing out on

ScrambledeggLDCcakeBOAK · 20/03/2014 20:10

Not read beyond the first post but I'm too excited not to share.

My one has the bakery and I have fallen in love with the cheesy twists and the tiger loaf!

Dp and I occasionally cut the loaf in half and make a big roll each for tea, it's lovely.

Ooh and a cheesy twist straight from the oven makes me happier than a kid at Christmas.

I'm sad aren't i Blush

Needasilverlining · 20/03/2014 20:40

I squee'd with excitement when I realised we had a bakery. Love the pretzels and tiger bread and cheese rolls.

Only downside: to make room for the bakery they have stopped doing other stuff I buy, including massive boxes of couscous for less than two quid, and chickpeas.
