it is great, DH loves it so much he is prepared to stop when passing by on occaisons which means it is no longer just me with the power to see when we need fresh bread and buy it... result. Also means I get the benefit of cheap wine and beer and lovely smoked fish salads too Grin

StanleyLambchop · 19/03/2014 17:58

The jam doughnuts are bloody lovely, huge and covered in icing sugar. YANBU, Lidl are complete bastards!!!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 19/03/2014 18:03

I used to be office based in a building with Lidl on one side and Aldi on the other it twas bliss I popped out at lunchtime to pick up a few bits regularly save me a fortune. sadly We got moved to a spot with not a shop in sight

Zepherial · 19/03/2014 18:06

I hear you, bastards they are with their delicious bakery goods.

Tempting me with the bargain veg and fruit delights and lulling me into a false sense of heathy security. Then slapping me in the face with the bread and cakes.

Wonderful croissants and pain au raisin too :)

gumdropsarereallyfallentears · 19/03/2014 18:10

The cheese twists are soooo good...I wish Aldi would get a bakery in our local store.

LaGuardia · 19/03/2014 18:40

I am wondering what Lidl is Confused

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 19/03/2014 18:41

They do the best fresh baked rolls where we live. MUCH nicer than Tesco.

Heathcliff27 · 19/03/2014 18:42

Yep, two words..

Cheese twists

wigglesrock · 19/03/2014 18:48

Noooo, I had successfully weaned myself off their croissants, apple turnovers - actually everything is scrumptious, and now I can feel the wanton craving returning Smile . I know where I'm heading tomorrow morning - 'tis a slippery slope.

Scuttlebug · 19/03/2014 18:53

Oo oo, I'm going tonight as been stuck in all day with child with pox. Will try cheese twists and doughnuts.

29 weeks pregnant, so it's not for me, it's for the baby! Thanks for the top tips.

mrscog · 19/03/2014 18:53

They're probably full of disgusting trans fats bleugh. That's what I tell myself to keep temptation at bay!

RandallFloyd · 19/03/2014 18:58

Yup, very probably choc full of partially hydrogenated trans-fatty acids.
The greasy, cheesey, flakey, delicious bastards.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/03/2014 18:59

They bake naked y'know.
Now that's not a problem if Paul Hollywood is getting his hands floury but I'd imagine he doesn't work in your local Lidl.

Stake out the car-park and watch the stafff.

dinosaursarebisexual · 19/03/2014 19:00

I love Lidl, but uncovered sneezecakes ? God no.

silverten · 19/03/2014 19:00

Mine has one of these 'bakeries'.

I have to say the appeal of baked goods presented on open trays for all and sundry to poke, sneeze on and generally maul about with their dirty unwashed hands is pretty minimal.

Chippednailvarnish · 19/03/2014 19:09

I'm actually salivating reading this thread. Damn you Zeph.

I will have see if my local is planning a bakery...

Zepherial · 19/03/2014 19:10

I live in a naice area that's what I tell myself people use tongs!

I just resign myself to bread and cake thighs and bum.

LaGuardia, it is a really posh version of waitrose.

OP posts:
DarylDixonsDarlin · 19/03/2014 19:19

Haha yes the apple turnovers are fab! Unfortunately my Lidl is about 100 steps from my house, and I have to pass it to go anywhere/come home again. Deadly.

Zepherial · 19/03/2014 19:23

DarylDixonsDarlin, blimey they must be sending you insane.

OP posts:
GemmaTeller · 19/03/2014 19:24

Haha - we have a cheese twist, as DH says, for the long walk back to the car Grin

YY to the apple turnovers and the straight from the oven tiger bread

tshirtsuntan · 19/03/2014 19:27

The plain croissants, about 20p I think, are the nicest I've had for years.

Ironically my local Waitrose has a help yourself bakery section.

(Makes note to get out more often, as this is my second thread talking about Waitrose)
