To think Carrie Bradshaw has no redeeming qualities?

I just finished the episode where she invites Big to stay with her and Aidan in their cabin in the woods.

Now if my boyfriend cheated on me (not just a one off but had a full blown affair with a married woman) and we had got to the point where I had somehow managed to forgive him and we were trying again. If we went on a weekend break and he invited the other woman because she was having boyfriend problems and they were good friends - I'd think fuck that!

I know Aidan didnt have to put up with that but there are many other examples of her not having any redeeming qualities -

Berating Charlotte for not offering to lend her thousands of dollars.
Always talking about herself - I remember when Stanford called her out on it.
Letting Aidan propose to her when she obviously didnt want to marry him.

I loved the TV show so much. Non of the women represented me in any way when the show first came out in the late 90's ( at uni....and pregnant, soon to be married) but that didn't matter. There was nothing like it, I can remember being shocked at the episode where Charlotte went to see that Jewish artist who painted vagina like artwork. I think it was so new in the way it represented women and sex, it almost sounds like a cliche, but it's true.

Miranda was my fave, took no shit, knew what she wanted and worked for it.

Yonineedaminute · 18/03/2014 11:08

lucille ah yes, was that the 'I bet you have a lovely cunt' episode with the artist?

I was like Shock

BlueFrenchHorn · 18/03/2014 11:11

drowh Samantha said she was breaking up with Smith because she loved him but loved herself more. Seemed like a bit of a bullshit reason tbh and like the writers didn't want them all paired off so came up with a reason to break up Smith and Samantha.

Yes, friendship!

Let's face it, we all have friends with 'quirks'

Sunnymeg · 18/03/2014 11:17

I always wanted Carrie's parents to turn up, I always wondered how they would interact with their daughter.

DrOwh · 18/03/2014 11:23

I think I heard Carrie saying once, that she didn't have a good relationship with her father.
Probably explains all the desperation to get a man.

BlueFrenchHorn · 18/03/2014 11:23

sunny didn't carrie once say her dad left when she was very young?....I've seen repeats ome too many times!

JessieMcJessie · 18/03/2014 11:24

Charlotte's monologue about not wanting to be "the up-the-butt-girl" is possibly The Best Thing I have ever seen on TV.

AnyFucker · 18/03/2014 11:27

OK, I now want to watch this series right from the very beginning as I was a slow starter. Anybody know the best way to do that ?

patienceisvirtuous · 18/03/2014 11:31

AF you can pick the full boxset up pretty cheaply now. Order it online... you won't regret it :o

AnyFucker · 18/03/2014 11:32

Ohhh, tempting. Ebay or Amazon you reckon ?

Francagoestohollywood · 18/03/2014 11:33

As much as I totally loved SATC (and I still watch reruns with great pleasure), Carrie was my least favourite character, actually I often found her completely irritating.

However, Aidan was lame and not even that attractive.

patienceisvirtuous · 18/03/2014 11:35

I just checked - £32 on play.com for all six seasons on boxset. Bargain :)

patienceisvirtuous · 18/03/2014 11:36

That's new btw...

Francagoestohollywood · 18/03/2014 11:36

"And I always envy their friendship so much. I think that is what makes the show so appealing to me.". Indeed. The show started more or less when I moved to England, where I had no friends to begin with. It reminded me of the friends I missed terribly.

AnyFucker · 18/03/2014 11:44

Six series DVD box set 20 quid on Amazon

patienceisvirtuous · 18/03/2014 11:47

That's great for £20! I bought all my seasons individually - probably paid about £120 overall!

AnyFucker · 18/03/2014 11:51

Loads on Ebay too.

Lighthousekeeping · 18/03/2014 11:51

Have you got Sky? It's on constantly.

I loved it when Samantha meets the lovely fella would is Mr too Big. I liked the way they had a joint available just when they needed one. Charlottes forbidden affair with the Orthodox Jew? I don't know why someone up thread said it wasn't jewish enough. Charlotte even converted.

Loved Stanford and I lived they gayness of it. Reminded me of the clubs my own gbf's used to take me to when we were young enough to club.

I really prefer it to the friendships in Girls.

AnyFucker · 18/03/2014 11:52

I want to watch it from the beginning. Anybody know if its On Demand ?

NuggetofPurestGreen · 18/03/2014 11:58

BlueFrench that really annoyed me in the film. They just reused the same break up line that Samantha had used with Richard - but it made sense with Richard as she was worried he was never going to stop cheating, or even if he did she'd never trust him. Didn't like them then rehashing for Smith who was lovely. Lazy writing. But the film is lazy compared with the tv show which was excellent.

"Nobody wants to marry the up-the-butt-girl." Grin

AnnaLegovah · 18/03/2014 12:02

SATC taught me what teabagging was.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 18/03/2014 12:06

I lost one of the discs for my box set (in the shoe box!). And of course it's the best one ie the carrie big affair in season 3.
