To think Carrie Bradshaw has no redeeming qualities?

I just finished the episode where she invites Big to stay with her and Aidan in their cabin in the woods.

Now if my boyfriend cheated on me (not just a one off but had a full blown affair with a married woman) and we had got to the point where I had somehow managed to forgive him and we were trying again. If we went on a weekend break and he invited the other woman because she was having boyfriend problems and they were good friends - I'd think fuck that!

I know Aidan didnt have to put up with that but there are many other examples of her not having any redeeming qualities -

Berating Charlotte for not offering to lend her thousands of dollars.
Always talking about herself - I remember when Stanford called her out on it.
Letting Aidan propose to her when she obviously didnt want to marry him.

Lol Shlurpbop Liz Jones is always namechecking Carrie in her Diary!

blanchedeveraux · 16/03/2014 21:27

I never got this show either. I made an attempt as some colleagues were seriously into it and I was always left out of the conversation. I gave it a go but for the sake of my self respect, bailed out after half an episode. Sarah Jessica Parker looks like a foot and she has horrible gnarly man-hands, don't get why were supposed to find her attractive AT ALL.

losercruiser · 16/03/2014 21:28

My biggest "WTF" was in the film, where all 3 of her high-flying friends were able to drop everything and accompany her on the honeymoon-that-never-was to coddle her for a fortnight.

I suppose with Charlotte I don't think she had a job and Harry could look after their daughter. Samantha is her on boss.
Miranda being a lawyer though, don't know how she would have got all that time off with such short notice.

Damn must remember this is not real life ha

Funniest thing is SJP was on Jonathan Ross once and got all huffy when Wossy dared suggest that Carrie was a bit high maintenance.

Carrie was one of those drama queens who sabotaged relationships as soon as things were too 'easy'.

losercruiser · 16/03/2014 21:28

*is her own boss

I didn't like her much. Especially when she did something stupid then "got to thinkin' about [insert title of fatuous article here]" whilst lying on her bed with a laptop.

My favourite episode was when she realised that she had no money because she'd spent $40,000 on shoes. I love schadenfreude.

AnnieMaybe · 16/03/2014 21:30

I liked the bald jewish guy who ended up with the posh one

mrsjay · 16/03/2014 21:30

you are right squoosh you are allowed to like characters without wanting to be them

mrsjay · 16/03/2014 21:30

I liked the bald jewish guy

Harry

WooWooOwl · 16/03/2014 21:31

I didn't like her either, but Samantha was worse.

squoosh · 16/03/2014 21:31

'Sarah Jessica Parker looks like a foot and she has horrible gnarly man-hands, don't get why were supposed to find her attractive AT ALL.'

The cheek of her being so successful when she's so awful looking!

ThisIsMyRealName · 16/03/2014 21:31

I will never understand why that show was/is so popular. Pretty much all the characters were unlikeble and ridiculous.

And why are so many people obsessed with Carrie's wardrobe? Her clothes were awful! Like a five year old who got dressed in the dark

MorrisZapp · 16/03/2014 21:32

I loved to hate her. In fact, I loved to hate the whole show at times. But I still maintain it's one of the highest quality, best acted, most intelligent comedy/ dramas ever made. The passion of all involved positively zings from the screen. So many memorable lines and moments.

God I miss it.

Shlurpbop · 16/03/2014 21:32

cerseissword I knew it! She must model herself on Carrie! Don't know which one is more silly :)

expatinscotland · 16/03/2014 21:32

YY, Aiden was dire. So fucking whingey. And he sought to control her using passive aggression.

mrsjay · 16/03/2014 21:33

I loved to hate it so much i used to watch it from the begining on the comedy channel late at night, Grin

Sicaq · 16/03/2014 21:33

I never made it more than ten minutes into an episode before having to turn over. It literally made me cringe, it was so bad. Gave it a few goes to try to figure out the fuss, but it never got better.

Binkyridesagain · 16/03/2014 21:36

Thank god for this thread, I thought for years I was the only one that couldn't stand the show, I thought there was something wrong with me.

I watched half an episode and that was too much.

squoosh · 16/03/2014 21:37

I think SATC comes in for much more of a bashing because it's an all female cast. Lots of people fall over themselves to tell everyone how awful it is.

DrOwh · 16/03/2014 21:37

I love the show but I love every crap show out there.
A part from The Valleys.

Greythorne · 16/03/2014 21:37

The characters were terribly cliché, but the subjects they covered....farting in bed after sex and the mortification, going on a date with a much older man and discovering he had a wrinkly bottom, loving hanging out with a cool group of lesbians only to be told unless you eat pussy, you don't belong here....we're very different to anything else that had been on telly at the time.

anonacfr · 16/03/2014 21:39

Yes Aiden was awful but I genuinely never got the Mr Big hate. He was upfront from the beginning about what type of relationship he was looking for.
Then he was a shit for having the affair but so was she. And then feeling so guilty that she had to ambush his ex wife that had caught her fucking her husband in her flat? Nice.

What annoyed me the most was her ridiculous teenagey jaunt in Paris with the Russian.
The guy is working on a huge exhibition and is understandably busy. She spends 10 days in a beautiful city in a stunning 5 star hotel and she sulks and whines because he has to work? Why the fuck did she have to sit on that effing bench for hours instead of going to that party I'll never know....

Anyway rant over....

Saying the scene when she slips and falls in Dior was comedy genius. I've rewound that scene many times and I still laugh my head off.

Caitlin17 · 16/03/2014 21:40

Aidan was awful, so boring and self-righteous.

I liked Carrie. And her clothes.

Steben · 16/03/2014 21:42

Buy far the worst fucking character - sat in judgement of all her friends and behaved worst than anyone especially with Big - have bitched relentlessly about this with girlfriends. Have to say though I loved the ending Blush

squoosh · 16/03/2014 21:42

The time the programme really tested my patience was when Miranda dumped the glorious Blair Underwood for that goblin Steve! What was she thinking?
