To think Carrie Bradshaw has no redeeming qualities?

I just finished the episode where she invites Big to stay with her and Aidan in their cabin in the woods.

Now if my boyfriend cheated on me (not just a one off but had a full blown affair with a married woman) and we had got to the point where I had somehow managed to forgive him and we were trying again. If we went on a weekend break and he invited the other woman because she was having boyfriend problems and they were good friends - I'd think fuck that!

I know Aidan didnt have to put up with that but there are many other examples of her not having any redeeming qualities -

Berating Charlotte for not offering to lend her thousands of dollars.
Always talking about herself - I remember when Stanford called her out on it.
Letting Aidan propose to her when she obviously didnt want to marry him.

I enjoyed the show but Carrie was my least fav character (despite liking SJP). The others had standards and knew what they wanted, Carrie was just wet and high maintenance.

DipMeInChocolate · 16/03/2014 22:43

I couldn't really love the show because of her annoying self absorbed needy character.

AnnaLegovah · 16/03/2014 22:47

Hated Berger and didnt like Carrie but that scene when she discovers the breakup post-in and knocks the vase of flowers over is very powerful. But spoilt by her whiny episode after that.

I think the abuse of SJP about her looks is absolutely disgusting. No male actor I can think of has had that kind of treatment.

AnnaLegovah · 16/03/2014 22:47

Post-it. Dont know what a post-in is.

notreallyok · 16/03/2014 22:49

She was tedious and self-absorbed and deserved to get dumped on her wedding day.

Charlotte was just a gold-digger. Why don't you buy your own flat, dear, instead of poncing off your poor impotent husband?

Miranda was OK but pretty chippy and touchy.

Samantha was selfish but in an entertaining way and she never pretended to be anything else.

Big was gorgeous.

PhoneSexWithMalcolmTucker · 16/03/2014 22:53

Carrie was an awful character, she really spoilt the show for me. That scene at the end of one series where they're all hanging out with the transsexuals makes me want to chew my fingers off, she's so cringey.

Agree that Aidan was a pass-agg whiner.

Lighthousekeeping · 16/03/2014 22:59

I think she's very attractive. I don't get the SJP bashing. The clothes in the last series were amazing.

elQuintoConyo · 16/03/2014 23:04

Who the fuck up there ^^ said SJP looks like a foot? Fuck off!

Satc was fun. The first series is hilarious to watch now - all that talking to the camera. I had nothing in common with any of them, at all, but stilled loved watching. Haven't seen an episode now for a couple of years.

AnyFucker · 16/03/2014 23:06

I think the fact that you are all still commenting/bitching about it is a testament to the quality of this show Grin

Very true!

The trans scene was vair cringey but I loved when Samantha blagged her way into the exclusive pool and got thrown out.

Bemused33 · 16/03/2014 23:08

Loved the series. Carrie was by no means perfect but I loved when she walked through the snow to get to Miranda x I would do that for my friends ..... Just in wellies.

thecatfromjapan · 16/03/2014 23:11

I think SJP put the heart and warmth (such as it was) into "Carrie". And the others too, I suppose. The books are pretty hard-nosed, aren't they? It makes me realise how good these woman are as actors. I always like watching SJP acting - she really does use her whole body, in a very dancer-ish way.

PrivateBenjamin · 16/03/2014 23:11

Carrie was so self absorbed. The episode where she has tried to get back with Aiden after cheating, but he is being a bit off with her, and then she starts pretend hyperventilating and repeating "you have to forgive me! You have to forgive me" over and over just made me want to scream at her. He doesn't have to forgive you, you cheating shite.

I loved Stamford. I don't understand why he was her friend.

Also, if you like the series, don't watch the films! So Hollywoodised and crappy. When Charlotte employs a nanny who has massive boobs and never wears a bra and Harry is staring at the nanny's tits all the time. Then for some reason (can't remember why) the nanny is caught in a sprinkler system in a white vest so runs laughing around while her boobs bounce and her top becomes see through. Pissed me right off that part.

thecatfromjapan · 16/03/2014 23:12

Anyfucker you are probably right about that.

I loved Smith. He (along with Harry before SATC2) was the best man in the entire show. Pissed off in general with the lack of safe sex on the show - not much fumbling for condoms ever went on.

somedizzywhore1804 · 16/03/2014 23:30

Love SATC even though it goes against every principal I have. I know my best friend feels the same and we've discussed many times the absolute genius of it in that it hooked us in for six series and two films and yet we hate everyone in it and everything they stand for Grin

CumberCookie · 16/03/2014 23:30

SATC is a very guilty pleasure of mine for this very reason. She is awful! Such a self-obsessed idiot and a bad friend.

DioneTheDiabolist · 16/03/2014 23:43

I agree Thecat. SJP made Carrie tolerable.

BecauseIsaidS0 · 16/03/2014 23:45

I loved the TV series and hated the films, particularly the second one which I found rather offensive.

For me, it was the friendship of those four seemingly very different women that did it. They were there for each other through thick and thin, and saw each other far more than I do see my own friends!

saffronwblue · 16/03/2014 23:59

Loved the show despite Carrie . I loved the women's conversations and the quality of the writing. Thought Berger was the nastiest of all the men and identified with Miranda. I could never understand what Charlotte actually lived on Fter getting the flat and having thrown away her job. Aidan should have run a mile from Carrie. She only ever saw him as a fall back for when she needed a boyfriend around.

EverythingCounts · 17/03/2014 00:02

I can watch and enjoy things that don't have likeable people in them. I actually thought the main characters were all pretty human, sometimes likeable, sometimes not. That made it a good show. And I think having a go at SJP for what she looks like is just nasty.

The films, however, weren't great and 2 in particular was terrible. I believe they've now confirmed 3 is going to be made. I will continue to watch the TV reruns and snort at the many, many funny moments.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 17/03/2014 00:14

Miranda was great in the big c

saffronwblue · 17/03/2014 00:26

Miranda evolved more as a character than the others did. She had to confront her preconceptions about success and status to realize that she really loved Steve. The others never learned much about themselves. Samantha was comfortable with herself already.

losercruiser · 17/03/2014 00:29

Why the fuck did she have to sit on that effing bench for hours instead of going to that party I'll never know

This annoyed me too. I thought it was so attention seeking and childish.

Why sulk on a bench when you could have just joined in the party?
