To think Carrie Bradshaw has no redeeming qualities?

I just finished the episode where she invites Big to stay with her and Aidan in their cabin in the woods.

Now if my boyfriend cheated on me (not just a one off but had a full blown affair with a married woman) and we had got to the point where I had somehow managed to forgive him and we were trying again. If we went on a weekend break and he invited the other woman because she was having boyfriend problems and they were good friends - I'd think fuck that!

I know Aidan didnt have to put up with that but there are many other examples of her not having any redeeming qualities -

Berating Charlotte for not offering to lend her thousands of dollars.
Always talking about herself - I remember when Stanford called her out on it.
Letting Aidan propose to her when she obviously didnt want to marry him.

Gosh, Berger was awful and ugly.
I couldn't wait for them to break up.

're: Aidan, now I have to go and watch all of his episodes again as I had such a crush, he couldn't do no wrong in my eyes. I just remember him wanting her to quit smoking.

The Russian guy I didn't like him but never understood what they saw in each other, there was any chemistry at all.

Big. I like him and think they deserve each other.

Samatha is the most likeable girl IMO, but I get exhausted just by seen her having sex.

LaGuardia · 17/03/2014 16:11

The fact that she can run in high heels makes her one of my heroes.

Lighthousekeeping · 17/03/2014 21:23

I can't even stand up properly in heels. I would live to beable to wear them.

TwixTime · 17/03/2014 21:49

I'm really surprised at all the Carrie hate! I loved the character, flawed yes but great to watch.

Only time I truly cringed at her was when she made the someone pay for her shoes that went missing by sending her a gift list for a wedding to herself - I had to watch that one through my fingers!

Funny, that was one of the only times I agreed with Carrie. She was made to take the shoes off, and they were stolen. The hostess should have reimbursed her. The wedding registry may not have been the best way to go, I agree, but it did make the woman re-think her position.

I was thinking about that episode the other day.
i don't know why i understood that it was the host who stole her shoes?

Lighthousekeeping · 17/03/2014 22:14

I was with Carrie on that one. I've spent thousands over the years on other peoples children/weddings and I'm lucky to get a birthday card back.

saffronwblue · 17/03/2014 22:18

I don't think it was the host. I think the host (like me) could not believe/ understand that someone could spend hundreds of dollars on a pair of shoes. I thought that was a very clever episode.

DevlinMaccabee · 17/03/2014 22:48

Can anyone remember that episode where she get mugged in an alleyway and the thief takes her Manolo Blahniks?

The she has to walk home in those horrible beige court shoes that Miranda brings for her Grin

DrOwh · 17/03/2014 23:00

And Miranda's shoes were too big for her if I remember correctly.

DevlinMaccabee · 17/03/2014 23:05

Yes they were!

losercruiser · 17/03/2014 23:19

I always thought the show was racist...ANY person of non white origin was shown in a bad.light.

I think that's quite a bold statement to make. I'd be interested if you could elaborate...

I remember Dr Robert who Miranda dated and he was shown to be a really caring boyfriend and good with Brady.

There was a guy Samantha dated who stopped seeing her because his sister didnt like the fact that she was white. He was never portrayed in a bad light either, successful and ultimately put his family first.

Aw I loved Carrie and all her flaws. She was very entertaining to watch and I did identify with her on some level. She was my favourite character. And her wardrobe was amazing.

Charlotte used to annoy the shit out of me.

SATC still remains my favourite show ever. So brilliantly written. I have watched each season about ten times now Blush

MissBattleaxe · 17/03/2014 23:31

I hated the way that in SATC 2 Carrie told Charlotte to shut up and stop obsessing about Harry and the Nanny, but as soon as Carrie snogs her ex it was "emergency! stop what you're doing and pay attention to ME"

ClownsLeftJokersRight · 17/03/2014 23:40

In the film I thought she was very unfair on Miranda. Not talking to her for ages over the throwaway comment Miranda made to Big about marriage.

The character that really makes me itch though is Steve. He makes me cringe.

somedizzywhore1804 · 17/03/2014 23:47

Agree with those saying that Aiden was a bellend. So whiney and passive agressive. Just say what you mean!

DrOwh · 17/03/2014 23:53

But why people don't like Steve?

redrubyindigo · 17/03/2014 23:59

Watched it once. Switched off. Hated it.

MissBattleaxe · 18/03/2014 00:02

I love Steve. He was perfect for Miranda.

ClownsLeftJokersRight · 18/03/2014 00:05

Steve looked like he enjoyed being bossed about and walked over. The worse he was treated the more forlorn and wimpish he became. Annoying.

BlueFrenchHorn · 18/03/2014 00:13

I think Charlotte only got a million if she had a boy if I remember correctly.

I found the scene where carrie was prancing about and strutting with the transsexuals on the roof cringe as well. Esp that fake brooklyn accent "wjo me?" Aargh!

Do love SATC though.

I felt bad for miranda in the first film. Her husband cheats on her and everyone thinks she's to blame and overreacting. Carrie gets dumped and its the most important thing ever.

I never understood Samantha's reason for dumping Smith!

DrOwh · 18/03/2014 00:23

Samantha was fed up of being alone as Smith was very successful in his acting career and never had enough spare time to for her. She wanted a more active sexual life but was trying to be faithful so she just ended up the relationship before cheating on him.

Smith was such a lovely guy who supported Samantha though her cancer and helped her with her troubled feelings towards emotional intimacy.

Charlotte was rich before marrying Tray, she didn't need his money. But she made sure she got it.

I am not sure if Miranda should have forgiven Steve, but he was very honest and was suffering with his actions. I am not sure if she really did realise she loved him or was just afraid of ending up alone or finding out all the guys out there are worse than Steve. However they went counselling together and I loved the way they planned to let each other know if they were ready to get back together.

KeatsiePie · 18/03/2014 03:08

My sister was always filled with rage at how Carrie always spoke with hand splayed over breastbone hahahaha yes! I forgot how irritating that was. I can hear exactly how her voice rises when she does it, too.

I liked Charlotte. I always liked her. And I liked Miranda, but it made me mad that they always had her paired up with these ridiculous inappropriate men (before Steve, but even including him). It felt like she was getting punished.

The Samantha/Smith breakup was total bullshit. Not believable in the slightest. But then the movies were just terrible travesties overall. Travesties! [tears hair]

JoanRanger · 18/03/2014 07:35

The book is one of the bleakest things I ever read – everyone is an utter coke whore. It makes a bit more sense than the series...

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob · 18/03/2014 07:46

Does anyone watch The Carrie Diaries? It's a sequel to SATC set in the eighties, It's fluff. Addictive fluff.
