to not understand why people consider McDonalds to be a "treat"

TalkinPeace · 13/03/2014 15:22

if I want a family "treat" meal I go somewhere with fresh, favoursome food made especially for us.

Why do people take their kids somewhere that sells the lowest common denominator of food and call it a "treat" ?

Am I just being unbelievably dim fideline

I have no fucking clue what you are trying to say?

WorraLiberty · 13/03/2014 16:36

Oh I don't like root beer

But I really want a big Big Mac Sad

On the plus side (I suppose) our Maccy Dees is a 2 mile round walk.

It's not on a bus route and I don't drive so at least we walk some of it off Grin

Mcdonald is disgusting and people who go there should be ashamed of themselves.

Why?
I can think of plenty of other things that are more worthy of getting your knickers in a twist over and be ashamed of.

Loving the fact that Michelin star chefs love the odd one. I just think it shows that McDonalds actually is very good at what it does and has its place in our culinary history and culture and that being sniffy about it is more a reflection on snobbery than anything else.

How much you pay for food does not necessarily reflect its value. Street food is regarded as some of the best in the world.

By the way the IKEA Elk lasagne is rather nice.

WorraLiberty · 13/03/2014 16:37

Lost on my too fideline?

NurseyWursey · 13/03/2014 16:37

Red I think they were joking because they went on to speak about Burger King...

WorraLiberty · 13/03/2014 16:37

*me

Megrim · 13/03/2014 16:37

Whoever at KFC thought that the title "Boneless Bucket" was in any way appetising should seriously consider whether they have a future in marketing.

ThatBloodyWoman · 13/03/2014 16:38

MacDonalds are minging imho.

As are Burger King, KFC etc etc.

I'd rather eat toast.

NurseyWursey · 13/03/2014 16:38

You'd rather eat toast.

Toast.

The scene where Samuel L Jackson and Travolta are in a car talking about how big macs in paris are called royales and are bigger and more sophisticated or something.

It's funny. I forget the film....

Has anyone been to McDonalds in America?

If so, are their Big Macs really much bigger than ours?

McDonalds in the states is a different thing to here.

The burgers are bigger, but taste like shit in comparison.
They don't have the amazing breakfast wrap.
And their coffee is pants.
Their soft drinks are arse.

Give me a European McDonalds any day of the week.

Aboyandabunny · 13/03/2014 16:39

Uri, it's all plastic cutlery!

susiedaisy · 13/03/2014 16:40

Macdonalds no. KFC on the other hand GrinGrin

vestandknickers · 13/03/2014 16:41

I go the McDs about once every three months with the children. They LOVE it. I don't think they're that fussed about the food, but they love the whole experience because it is so unlike how we normally eat. At home everything is "fresh and flavoursome" and at other times if we go out we tend to go to a café and have something like jacket potatoes but there is a time and a place for dirty food and a plastic toy!

AgaPanthers · 13/03/2014 16:41

Maybe prawn toast?

Or French toast?

fifi669 · 13/03/2014 16:41

Sometimes you just need to eat crap. Getting home late last week, DS and I may have bought a rustlers burger and milkshake from the corner shop to have for tea....

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 13/03/2014 16:41

I think I get the Tarantino reference. There is a scene in a film (which is possibly, but not definitely, Pulp Fiction) where two characters (who could be John Travolta & Samuel L Jackson) are in a car comparing French & American McDonald's.

Something like "do they have the Big Mac in Paris?" "yes, but in Paris it's La Big Mac".

Do I get a point? Grin

WorraLiberty · 13/03/2014 16:41

Ahh I get you now fideline Grin

Dubjackeen · 13/03/2014 16:42

Now I want page McDonalds

JRmumma · 13/03/2014 16:42

OP i must point out that no food at any eating establishment is cooked 'especially for you'. Its cooked for whoever is willing to pay for it. I think you might also be surprised at the amount of food in even the most expensive of places that is pre or partly booked and just warmed up or finished off when you order. Fancy restaurants even use (shock horror) microwaves quite often.

YoureAShoe · 13/03/2014 16:42

Out of curiosity - what is your treat food of choice OP? I mean when you're not at the fat duck or the ritz you know, you must have a favourite.. bet it's Gregg's sausage rolls

fideline · 13/03/2014 16:42

20 points santa

WorraLiberty · 13/03/2014 16:42

JRmumma · 13/03/2014 16:42
