to not understand why people consider McDonalds to be a "treat"

if I want a family "treat" meal I go somewhere with fresh, favoursome food made especially for us.

Why do people take their kids somewhere that sells the lowest common denominator of food and call it a "treat" ?

On the very rare occasion I've eaten at McDonald's I've always felt a little bit grubby and used afterwards.

And not in a good way.

TheListingAttic · 13/03/2014 16:27

I would seriously kill for a Big Mac after ploughing through this thread....

FriendlyLadybird · 13/03/2014 16:28

My children like it and we don't have it often. That's the definition of a treat in our house. Same as chocolate and takeaway pizza (not usually served together, though).

Shatners, [dailymailsadface] not since my problem dear Grin

RalphRecklessCardew · 13/03/2014 16:29

I'd offer the OP a biscuit, but what if it wasn't organic?

Shudders.

I was visiting my sister in Canada and took my 2 1/2 year-old dd to eat at McDonalds, she thought it was disgusting, then we moved to the UK when she was four and nearly all her friends thought of McDonald's as a treat, the effects of advertising.

The only ones in her class who did not grow up to be obese were the ones who were not brought up to think of McDonalds as a treat. And I'm sorry, I was a single mother all through her childhood, so is not a question of money or going to posh restaurants either.

gordyslovesheep · 13/03/2014 16:30

party in a bucket!

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 13/03/2014 16:30

I like a few of the things in McD's - yes. My DC's love it though, so for them it is a treat.

I really don't like pretentious restaurants (i.e. anywhere I would feel uncomfortable in jeans), but then I have long since suspected that I am not a typical MNer Wink.

Has anyone been to McDonalds in America?

If so, are their Big Macs really much bigger than ours?

Envy
fideline · 13/03/2014 16:31

Oh Nursey KFC is totally different. It tastes nice and is therefore 'a treat' Smile

Alwaysbloodyhungry · 13/03/2014 16:31

I,m a size 8 and have plenty of money to be able to eat where I like 7 nights a week if I choose but sometimes only a Big Mac will do, there's just nothing that comes close when you,re craving pure crap. In fact it's more a treat for me than the kids, they,re really not that bothered! Ikea salad with EXTRA salad....pah

AgaPanthers · 13/03/2014 16:31

We had one of the new McDonalds pound saver menu on Sunday.

'Cept it was £1.50. Inflation for you.

Chicken BLC it was.

Not sure the difference between that and a Crispy Chicken & Bacon Deli sandwich at £1.99.

NurseyWursey · 13/03/2014 16:32

worra yes. Yes there are. drools

I had a supersized Burger King over here though (UK) and that was amazing too.

YoureAShoe · 13/03/2014 16:32

Worra they're the same size as the old Big Macs here I think. Before they made the uk ones smaller Sad

Martorana · 13/03/2014 16:33

" Hydration is the key."

Hydration? Is that what most people call "having a glass of water"?

TantrumsAndBalloons · 13/03/2014 16:33

McDonalds in Paris have a whole section dedicated to cake.

It's very nice.

WorraLiberty · 13/03/2014 16:33
Sad
TalkinPeace · 13/03/2014 16:33

I love KFC nurseywursey.

There is a KFC on the A322 in Bracknell that serves the world's best KFC. I don't know what it is, but the KFC in there is better than other KFCs. Like the chicken yummier, the gravy tastier. We always stop there if passing by.

Though Asian KFC can be better still. The normal fried chicken is spicy, and then instead of ketchup, they have chili sauce.

I also like to order the fried gizzards and/or livers.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 13/03/2014 16:34

Oh Nursey, all that reminds me of is the local news story a few years back where two women had been fined for overstaying the 2 hours limit on the KFC car park.

They were outraged because they each ordered a whole family sized bucket & "well, who can eat that much chicken in less than 2 hours? They should obviously give you longer!" Grin.

Personally, I bet it was the corn on the cob that slowed them down Wink.

fideline · 13/03/2014 16:35

Are Tantrums and Worra making a Tarantino movie? Confused

NurseyWursey · 13/03/2014 16:35

KFC only disappoints me when they run out of the 'good' gravy and you end up with the 'fake' gravy :(
