I don't like my neighbours. Do you like yours?

Small 1930's house. Small garden. Neighbour has huge trampoline. Children spend whole time bouncing and looking into our house making strange faces and silly/rude comments. Children are over 12. I would understand if younger - as wouldn't know better perhaps. Am I unreasonable in thinking they should have the manners to look away from our house/windows and not make stupid/rude remarks? Their mother is equally as bad... please tell me if/why you don't like your neighbour?

No I don't like mine. They tried to get us thrown out of our home - over something that was nothing to do with us. So nope not keen on them at all.

Unfortunately if they are in their garden then there really isn't much you can do about it other than have a polite word with their parents, but from your comments it sounds like that probably wouldn't change it!

YABU to expect manners - ime manners in kids are only as good as those in the adults around them and they are lacking in a good many adults these days

They sound awful we moved ten months ago to a lovely house and area only to find the run down house next door is a council let and neighbour was letting her dog bark constantly after a few chats and a stern letter it stopped only for her forty something year old very immature son to come over and threaten us the police have been involved a couple of times and it has just been awful. All the other neighbours are lovely.
I think you need to complain to the council about them I would find this quite bullying.

I have the same problem. Shrieking whilst jumping on the trampoline and peering through our window. Also they kick footballs over the fence against our window. They are 18 and 15. When I went round to ask their father politely if he could ask them to be more careful he was extremely rude and refused to do so. We don't speak to them now. Also they let their yappy dogs out at midnight every night and their yapping makes my dog bark and that wakes us up.

Sorry, love our neighbours on both sides! Couldn't ask for better.

When we were away on holiday last year they watered our garden and washed the car for us because it was dusty!

And they are always taking parcels in for us, due to my 5-a-week amazon habit.

Today my left neighbour had a squidge of my baby while we had a chat. I passed the time of day with my right neighbour.

Most weeks we say hello to at least two of the three ladies opposite (that is, opposite to the left, opposite to the right, and directly opposite). We wave at the occupants of another four or five houses on the street if we pass them in the car, or they us. We cat sit for number 20, and DH helps with agoraphobic number 18's internet connection.

I wouldn't say I'm friends with any of them, but it's a very neighbourly street.

That said, we're the youngest by a clear generation, apart from NDN's adult son who is only a decade older than us.

One of my neighbours has five children (including one who has, at various times, dug his nails into my DS1's neck, hit him, scratched him, tried to bite him, and screamed repeatedly in his face) who take over the communal garden the second the sun shines. One of her kids broke DS1's Mini Micro last year too. She also has two dogs which she lets shit all over the garden. AND she steals all my pegs.

Other neighbours (a couple, one child) are very possessive of their parking spaces (I have posted about this before on here) and just generally not very nice people. It has been an ongoing saga, culminating in him coming to my front door a couple of weeks ago and screaming, swearing and threatening me. Then the other day my nine month old puppy barked at his dog, so he kicked my dog so hard he yelped in pain and flew about a metre across the garden.

So no, I don't really like my neighbours.

I love mine. They used to do my garden for me when I was a lone parent and had some health problems. We also meet for coffee regularly and went there for pancakes last tuesday evening. I've had some awful neighbours in the past though so I've paid my dues!

My neighbours are terrible, but not in the conventional sense.

They're older, mostly retired and have lived in the houses since they were built (1961). They are very miserable and unfriendly. The people opposite believe that they own the road that goes past their houses and will scream and shout at you if you park on the road - they all have front drives btw.

The others are very judgemental and don't accept 'outsiders'. They're all hostile, cliquey, gossipy and just plain nasty. A couple of them are plain weird. Only two of them are okay and will smile, wave and chat.

Add to this, the fact that their children are now moving into the houses when their parents die and you have an insular, inbred feel about the place .

I've nicknamed the place 'The Mortuary' because it has an air of dead miserableness and the inhabitants are just waiting around to die basically (not due to their age, just their negative, festering outlook).

no. next door a scout leader and his wife, both petty minded miserable sorts, with their two 30 something sons, one mld. they caused me a lot of trouble until someone warned them off. i wish that someone and i were still friends.
other side the postman and his mrs and their baby and their staffie and all its poo. she, the mrs, when a teenager, was part of a crowd that harassed me and my daughter, hammering on the door and throwing stones at the house.
at the back, mr and mrs drug users. the icecream man calls every day. no children at the house. i went to buy an ice cream once, just to check if i was correct in my suspicions. he didn't have any ice cream on his van.
next to them, mr and mrs elderly. very nice. they know my dad. next to them, daughter's teacher mate and his lady, seems ok.

I don't have any neighbours.

Actually, we did meet the man next door but one (about 350m away) just before Christmas. Lived here for over 7 years.

I would hate to live where I didn't at least get along ok with my neighbours so I feel for anyone in that situation.

We only have one set of neighbours and they're great. No kids, pets, loud noises, fires or parking problems.
They keep themselves to themselves but are there to call on if either of us need anything. About three times a year we cook a meal for each other or we might have drinks and snacks in the garden in the nice weather. Very occasionally we go out somewhere to eat together, although not for a while now.

We usually end up cooking a meal on NYE as that means we don't spend a fortune on the meal or transport because we live way out of anywhere.
They suit us just fine.

Yes, mine are fine. The couple attached to us (we're a semi) are fab. An elderly couple who claim to be deaf and never hear a thing every time we apologise for all the noise our kids make , we carry stuff from their car for them, they bring our bin back after the truck's been, we keep an eye out for them, just little kindnesses back and forth.

The woman on the other side is a good neighbour. no trouble from her, friendly enough. mildly irritating in some ways but nothing terribly anti social.

In fact, the whole street is great. The best kind of neighbours - keep to yourself but smile, nod and say hi. Everyone parks considerately and we are all happy to take in parcels etc.

Our next-door neighbours are great. They're drug dealers, but very nice ones who're quite keen not to draw attention to themselves.

The people upstairs seem very quiet if you pass them in the stairwell, but turn into a herd of elephants the second they close their front door behind them.

We HATE our upstairs neighbours! They moved in at the end of last summer and gutted the flat, throwing everything into the garden whilst I was trying to hang the washing on the line, children were playing etc. They've obviously not put down any kind of underlay as we can hear EVERYTHING. We could occasionally hear previous occupants but really, only when the mum was properly shouting at the children.

They play really bass-y music loudly at random times of day and night, their children just run laps on the flat until 10pm every night. They have up to 12 people round at least twice a week, who talk loudly, play music and leave at 11pm. When they come downstairs they continue to talk loudly and have even knocked on our front door, then been really rude to us when we opened it, asking why we were spying on them coming downstairs?!

We've told them we can hear everything and that DSS goes to bed at 8.30 so can the children refrain from running about after then. Their response 'No one else complains and we are living in a flat too and can't hear any noise' !! Urgh, what?! We are the flat directly below you and you are on the top floor!

She also smokes out on the balcony and throws her cigarette butts into the garden, so now there is a carpet of butts beneath our balcony.

We're moving to a house next month and cannot wait!! :)

I live in a corner - terrace with the thinnest adjoining walls known to man.

On one side, there are a young couple, their 2 young daughters and a 6 year old that's the mum's from a previous relationship. On the first night they moved in, he was spitting into the street and throwing eggs and swearing because someone parked in 'his' space. He has 1 allocated space but uses 2 (one of which, ironically, is mine). The neighbour from round the corner visits at least 10-15 times a day and they stand on the doorstep smoking pot. He will talk sometimes but then randomly accused another neighbour of completely ignoring him. Very strange, and more than a little scary.

Other next door is a lovely, pleasant older man who always talks.

Some in the rest of the street are a little odd, but nothing too strange.

We're in a semi. The attached neighbours, lady, late teens son and daughter are lovely. The lady is deaf and uses sign language as her speech is not great but over time we have found it easier to talk and she was especially lovely when she went out of her way to congratulate me on my pregnancy. They can sometimes be very noisy and they have a yappy dog but they honestly don't bother us at all.
On the other side the house got repossessed and has been empty for almost a year, it has been recently bought and the new owners are doing it up before moving in. They don't even live there yet and are already pissing me off, noisy cheeky kids, keep parking on the road in front of my drive even though they have a drive of their own and they keep messing about with the water mains in the street and turning everyone's water off, it was to change a leaky tap apparently! Just use the sodding stopcock u nob!! Grrr

In the house that we are joined to there appears to be the world's most enthusiastic (and noisy) DIYer. Just today, for example, there was an extended spell that sounded like drilling into brick. For 3-4 minutes at a time. At least 7 or 8 times before DH and I went to Lidl with headaches!!

Most unfortunately, I am currently unemployed, so at home during the day, evening, weekend, etc often trying to concentrate on CVs or writing applications.

And DH is in the middle of 7 weeks of gardening leave to end his RAF career, before starting work with BAE Systems at the end of the month.

When we both worked and retired neighbour was doing this on the weekends, it was beyond the pale so I feel I can't complain too much if he sticks to the DIY Mon-Fri 9-5 for the most part. But how much DIY can there be for one average 3 bed roomed semi?!?!

The other neighbour rents from a private landlord and seems ok, but by golly, she cuts that grass to within an inch of its' life. I realise that it might be a condition of her contract but

Currently live in a flat - don't know the neighbours up or down but the two others on our floor are nice. No problems with noise or privacy or anything.

Used to live in a terrace house, got on super well with the neighbours one side, and their neighbours - we used to go to the pub together, have meals out, nights in together etc

The only bad neighbour experience I've had was at uni. Next door had a rock band and they used to practice in the basement, I had the ground floor bedroom. Oh god they were loud and awful. One of their songs went 'I want to fuck you in the ass, in the ass, in the ass. I want to fuck you in the ass, fuck, fuck, yeah'

Ours are fine.
One side is a CM , so lots of child noise (and a trampoline)
Others have parties and music till 2am at weekends.

Both sides have dogs.

So it's a bit noisy at times but nothing out of the ordinary I don't think.

You can be very lucky or very unlucky with neighbours. When I read some of the NDN threads on here my toes curl.
