AIBU?

AIBU to expect to be treated like a princess on my birthday??

It's my birthday today and I'm feeling miserable. I had to go to work today although boss wasn't in so I mostly skived but I expected BF of 6 years to treat me like a princess when I got home, well he tried I guess, he got me some perfume (not my fave which is almost empty) and chocolates (although 2 days ago he told me I was fat), but the card says my full name, which I never use, and he got me flowers yesterday from sainsburys; lilies which I love and carnations which I hate. He just told me that he has ordered the bag which I had hinted that I wanted, but it hasn't arrived.
Anyway now I've written that down it seems like loads but I feel grumpy. There was no card from my daughter (age 18 months), even though I told nursery staff that it was my birthday in a massive hint for them to make me a card.

Anyway, I feel like my day has been rubbish. AIBU???

I must have low standards, because if I got some flowers, choccies and some perfume (even not my fave) I would feel like a princess easy to please

I think you are upset and cross at your partner for some reason or have bigger issues in the relationship if this has made you feel unloved rather than cherished.

Of course yabu. But! I do this too. Every year. Without fail. And it's all about really painful memories of birthdays as a child - psycho parents- really. Not about dh at all if I'm honest with myself.

I think it is lovely having one day a year which is special to you, I also enjoy making my partners birthday special. It is nice to be nice.

I also think he should have done something from your daughter, she is his I take it? It should be his role (not nursery) to sort a present and card for mummy.

People like this annoy me. Someone I know acts like their birthday is the only important day in the year and expects her kids to wait on her hand and foot. It's only a birthday !! On my birthday I still get on with my day like no other.

It sounds as if he tried to do the right thing.

I suspect you needed to tell the nursery in words of one-syllable that you wanted a card. Possibly hints don't work.

BTW yes you are I'm afraid. If you have a firm vision of what you want your birthday to be like you need to make it very clear indeed. Partners tend not to be psychic Grin

And one more thing..... if at all possible take a day off work on your birthday. I have done this for the last 10 years or so and then I can spend the day pleasing myself. Last two years I have taken dog on a long walk and then treated myself to lunch somewhere lovely. No-one can spoil you as well as you can yourself because you know what you want.

wish i had done that today.

not all colleagues said happy birthday and had the usual work hassles and grumpy patients which all seem worse on your birthday!

Happy birthday to the birthday celebrators! Cake and Flowers for you all.

Stars -- I know what it's like to just want one day to be about you but unfortunately, it's not the reality of adult life. I always buy myself something or do something nice around my birthday just as a way of saying "hey, I appreciate me!" Wink
