To ask what time you eat your evening meal on a work day?

Assuming you work standard 9-5 type hours? Think age of DC is a main factor in timing of this meal and whether you and any partner do any exercise or other evening activity.

7pm - kids go up at 7pm to read for an hour & me & dh eat our dinner in that hour window

Noggie · 04/03/2014 18:41

We try to eat by 6 - but clubs etc sometimes means dinner is a bit later. Youngest dd needs to be in bed by 730 so it's a bit if a rush!

Mintyy · 04/03/2014 18:42

Not unreasonable to ask, no.

Hulababy · 04/03/2014 18:42

Normally around 6:45pm/7pm, when dh gets in from work. DD is11y and generally eats with us. Has done at this time for past couple of years or so.

Prior to that would have been nearer 6:30pm - since DD was school age, and before tbh.

DD always had a snack on getting home from school, still does many days tbh.

DH plays squash once or twice a week - but that tends to be after 9pm.

ilovepowerhoop · 04/03/2014 18:43

kids eat any time between 5 and 6pm. I eat with dh much later (sometimes as late as 9pm).

TheArmadillo · 04/03/2014 18:44

6-6.30. As soon as I get home from work. Dh cooks it (I used to do it in the slow cooker).

No evening activities. Dh is a sahp.

Dd goes to bed at 7pm so couldn't be any later. I don't like having separate meals. When ds had swimming we had to eat at 7.15 ish and dd went to bed late (had to watch ds swimming as I wasn't home in time).

FTRsGotAShinyNewNN · 04/03/2014 18:45

DS(5) eats at CMs house, I pick up at 5.15pm, DH works away during the week so I usually eat after DS goes to bed at 7pm do maybe 7.30-8ish

We sit down at between 5.45 and 6pm with the kids, as a family. DH leaves for work at 6.15am so as to be home by 5.30pm, 6 at the latest. I am a sahm but eork 2 eves and have to leave at 6.30pm on those eves. DS snd Dd both have sports clubs 1 night a week each which can make the timing tight, but they sre local so I can dtop them, come home and cook, go back and fetch, serve, eat, then leave for work Kids are 8, 6 and nearly 3 and we've pretty much always done it this way since the first was a baby.

FunkyBarnYard · 04/03/2014 18:49

8.30-9.00pm we tend to eat.

losersaywhat · 04/03/2014 18:49

5.30/6pm. I work from home so have the dinner cooking while I'm working.

GinnelsandWhippets · 04/03/2014 18:54

8.30ish. I get home from work + pick kids up at 6. They go to bed between 7.15 and 7.45 (11months + 2.6) and then I cook. DH gets home between 7 and 8 depending on how busy his day is. I'd love to eat earlier but it's just not feasible with our schedules at the moment.

stuckindamiddle · 04/03/2014 18:59

I know IANBU really (!) but wasn't sure where else to post :)

Curious on others' dinner times as we NEVER eat before 8 and never did pre-DC either. It bugs me but pre-DC it was due to long commutes and needing to exercise before eating. Now it's due to bath and bedtime routine and exercising and then showering in turn once DC are asleep.

DD eats between 5 and 5.30 but she's only 10 months old. DH and I eat later at 7.30. He gets in around 6 or 6.30 and DD goes to bed at 7.

stuckindamiddle · 04/03/2014 19:07

Mumbai - that sounds more like us.

Around 6 with children. Husband eats later often.

HicDraconis · 04/03/2014 19:12

We eat between 6&7 normally. Boys have sports activities till 5.30 twice a week, we have them either 5.30-6.30 or 6.30-7.30. We always eat together, always have done. Occasionally I'm held up at work (till after 8) in which case DH eats with boys and saves mine for later.

Boys are 7&6.

PickleSarnie · 04/03/2014 19:31

Stupid o'clock. We both have a 90 mile commute. So once the eldest is in bed and one of us has cooked, it's probably about 8:30-9. Which, when we are in bed by 10, is far too late .

Rapidly seeing the appeal of ready meals but my inner food snob can't bring myself to do it.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 04/03/2014 19:35

5-5:30pm.
We all eat together because I cba to cook and clear up twice and our hours allow that.
Otherwise it would be 8ish for us.
Which was fine Pre DCs but now I am desperate to tidy up, shower and get some sleep. Grin

maddy68 · 04/03/2014 19:36

8 ish each night

TheRealAmandaClarke · 04/03/2014 19:36

My DCs are still small.
I imagine the arrangement will change over time.

FamiliesShareGerms · 04/03/2014 19:37

2030/2100-ish

Ie after kids have gone to bed and we have relative peace. We tend to have a snack when we get in then a proper meal later on

TheRealAmandaClarke · 04/03/2014 19:38

I love my slow cooker TheArmadillo

spilttheteaagain · 04/03/2014 19:38

DH works early hours so is usually home by 4.30-4.45pm. We eat at 5/5.15. I am a SAHM, we have a 2.5 year old who eats with us, hence early tea. But tbh when I was working pre DD I also got home at about 4.45 and we did get on and cook pretty much straight away so usually ate 5.30/6ish. We just prefer it. We are starving by then anyway!

lazyhound444 · 04/03/2014 19:39

Depends on what DC are up to. Some nights as early as 5.15pm, latest would be 7.30pm.
