To have just shouted at a horse rider outside my house

BigRedBall · 04/03/2014 13:40

Have namechanged for privacy.

I am so angry right now. We sometimes (twice a year at most) get horses going past our house as we live around the corner from a small private farm. We live in a city, so it's quite a novelty when we hear the sound of "clip clop" outside.

About 20 mins ago we heard the sound of clip clop and I took DS to the front room to look outside. As we watched the horses go by one stopped and kind of turned around and SHITTED RIGHT OUTSIDE MY DRIVEWAY. Not a small bit...a big arse full of horse shit. And the rider laughed at her other horsey friends.

As soon as I saw it I put my shoes on and ran outside and the rider was going on her way again. Her friends had gone up ahead. I ran up to her shouting "excuse me" and she wouldn't stop. I shouted at her if she was going to clear up the horse poo outside my house and she replied "stop shouting at me" without even turning around to see I had a toddler in my arms.

I couldn't go any further because I was holding my DS and had left a sleeping baby inside.

Now I have a pile of horse shit outside my house, and I want to actually KILL this horse rider. Our road is a school route and I don't want children stepping in it but why the fuck should I have to clear it up? I am so pissed off. I want to get into the car and hunt down the fuckers and pull them back by their ears and tell them to clean it.

I live in a busy town too and people ride their fucking shit machines on the path like its the wild west! Whats wrong with the road why go on the path. Oh but lets not forget they were here before cars, thats what they always say.

WillieWaggledagger · 04/03/2014 14:09

do you not flog it manchesterhistorygirl? all the yards round here do, in old feed sacks 'well rotted manure for the garden'

shootingstar1234 · 04/03/2014 14:10

YABU, it's just digested grass mainly, far different to dog poo and smells better too!

PooroldJumbo · 04/03/2014 14:11

Big there is obviously a difference between horse and dog poo. Humans have been spreading horse poo on the fields where they grow food since time began.
If it's raining the poo will begin to naturally break up.
What is the problem? If it's at the end of your drive you won't be able to smell it. It can't be spoiling your view of the houses on the other side of the street. As it's in the road nobody has to walk in it.

YAB very U

mateysmum · 04/03/2014 14:12

NO OP you are showing your ignorance here. Horse shit is not glorified dog poo and yep for manuring roses it is like gold.

And it doesn't go runny in the rain - that would be cow poo which is another pile of pooh entirely.

We could start a whole new thread all about the different characteristics of poo types!

yoshipoppet · 04/03/2014 14:12

Many riders feel that they have more control over the horse when on board (this does of course depend on the nature of the horse and the skill of the rider), and that getting off means they have less control.
For instance, if the rider got off and was shovelling up the poo (a two-handed job - how are they supposed to keep hold of the horse?), the horse would be better able to get away, and this would be quite a likely scenario if something spooked the horse. They do scare easily.
Horse riding is all about risk assessment IMO. If the rider felt that staying on the horse meant that they were less likely to cause a horrible accident I can see why they wouldn't want to get off and shovel it up there and then. This is why most stables will send teams of people round the local roads with a wheelbarrow and shovel every so often and clear up any droppings. Maybe the OP should go and have a word with the owner of the farm and suggest they do this?

Hissy · 04/03/2014 14:13

Genuinely don't know where to start with this.

I worry that this thread IS genuine as that would be a very sad indictment of people today.

NigellasDealer · 04/03/2014 14:13

you should be grateful, you have the sweet perfume of horse shit AND you can put it on your roses!!
haha it reminds of the time I was riding out with some friends in a far London suburb, years ago when i was a teenager; we stopped outside the newsagent to get some fags, then rode on, stopped for a chat with someone, then one of the horses did a massive shit right on the doorstep of a rather chi chi little hair salon!!
off we clopped pronto!
you could hear the pained campy screams of the hairdresser from a mile away!!

BigRedBall · 04/03/2014 14:13

I do not have anger management issues! I'm absolutely fine when there's not a horse shitting outside my house.

It's only hay Confused

sonlypuppyfat · 04/03/2014 14:14

Why are they riding on the path though?

BigRedBall · 04/03/2014 14:14

I don't have roses. Confused

ephemeralfairy · 04/03/2014 14:14

Shat, not shitted Smile

OP YABU. Horse shit is fairly inoffensive, it is NOT like dog/cat/fox shit because as various others have pointed out they are herbivores. I have picked it up with my bare hands many times.

RiverTam · 04/03/2014 14:14

however, having said all that, I have seen horses (I think on parades or something like that) that have a kind of bag attachment going on, under the tail? But possibly that only works if the horse is standing around a lot. Might cause chafing if it was going at a full gallop?

WillieWaggledagger · 04/03/2014 14:14

sonlypuppyfat - horses were on the roads before cars, but people were on the roads before horses. that's how the priority works afaic:

people
horses
bicycles
cars

so horses should not be on the pavement and if they are they need to get out of the way for a pedestrian

that said, pedestrians should always behave with caution around horses despite the priority

profplumagain · 04/03/2014 14:14

OP I suspect your problem is that you have always lived in a town (I sympathise) but actually horse manure is far from offensive. People sell it, you know. OTOH I have never heard of anyone wanting to buy dog mess. Unlike doggie gifts, horse manure contains no parasites or diseases, and does not smell nasty.

Incidentally, why did you want the rider to turn round and see you were holding a toddler? Maybe she didn't turn round as she was concentrating on keeping her horse calm and not spooked in the face of you running after it shouting which was a daft thing to do. Sorry, I am sure you didn't realise it but YWBVU.

meditrina · 04/03/2014 14:15

"So what? A horse went to the toilet on the public road outside your house. I think you are massively over reacting."

Is it just me now trying to imagine a loo big enough for a horse's arse?

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 04/03/2014 14:15

God they're all out today.

Yes, all horses should be banned from built-up areas Hmm.

ffs

Hissy · 04/03/2014 14:15

My suggestion is to move.

You sound too silly to live in the country, you'd be better off in a concrete jungle.

HellonHeels - better?

I lived near the Queen's Constabulary for my first several years in London and I have literally never seen anyone pick up horse manure. It's not even remotely comparable to dog poo.
