AIBU?

To have just shouted at a horse rider outside my house

Have namechanged for privacy.

I am so angry right now. We sometimes (twice a year at most) get horses going past our house as we live around the corner from a small private farm. We live in a city, so it's quite a novelty when we hear the sound of "clip clop" outside.

About 20 mins ago we heard the sound of clip clop and I took DS to the front room to look outside. As we watched the horses go by one stopped and kind of turned around and SHITTED RIGHT OUTSIDE MY DRIVEWAY. Not a small bit...a big arse full of horse shit. And the rider laughed at her other horsey friends.

As soon as I saw it I put my shoes on and ran outside and the rider was going on her way again. Her friends had gone up ahead. I ran up to her shouting "excuse me" and she wouldn't stop. I shouted at her if she was going to clear up the horse poo outside my house and she replied "stop shouting at me" without even turning around to see I had a toddler in my arms.

I couldn't go any further because I was holding my DS and had left a sleeping baby inside.

Now I have a pile of horse shit outside my house, and I want to actually KILL this horse rider. Our road is a school route and I don't want children stepping in it but why the fuck should I have to clear it up? I am so pissed off. I want to get into the car and hunt down the fuckers and pull them back by their ears and tell them to clean it.

Maybe you have some strange horse riders shona.

I rarely see riders two abreast. Even with young horses, unless absolutely necessary we prefer to go single file.

Worst case we've come to is one of us going out on foot with the horse and rider. And we've had some real skittish, herd bound horses.

I've answered your question. Did your parents also have titanium exhausts that are over 90db? Maybe in those days horses were ridden in fields? Maybe their bikes couldn't go above 30mph.

Nearly at 1000 posts. who's going to get the final word. The race is on.

Well with all those hazards then you should be riding slowly enough to avoid a horse poo. I'd take a poo over any of those tbh

And i don't need to calm down. I'm having great fun. Because no one can argue against the fact that the law is on our side and its probably not going to change :) Not while we have a royal family anyway i reckon!

I live by a dairy farm and there is a trianglesign with a cow in it just before the farm as people drive so idiotic that there have been many incidents where the cows have nearly got knocked over. It has nothing to do with poo, it's to do with people's driving

I've only ever seen gigs in towns where you shouldn't be riding at speed & cars are going to spread anything quickly anyway.

Nope I don't ride at any speed at the side of the road but frequently horses here ride two abreast. Being a biker you constantly have to watch the roads for potholes, gravel, roadworks, signs (imaginary ones round here) cars, cyclists, horses- so you may well have to be riding slightly closer to the verge to avoid a pothole or tar line on the road.

Those signs are not warning you of the shit hazard though.

They are warning you there might be a herd of great big cows on the road.

Even the two abreast I see are at the side - as close to the side as they can. I give them extra space btw as 2 abreast can mean you have a young inexperienced horse.

Rude? I asked a perfectly valid question, that you obviously cant answer.

My parents rode motor bikes for years and never came off due to horse shit. But then they never rode them in the gutter either. Maybe that's why.

Corus - The thread is about riding one. Not two abreast, or driving.

Ive only driven little miniatures anyway and even there poo is cute.

I've YET to see a sign

You've never seen those red-edged triangular signs with outlines of cows in them saying 'cows crossing'?

Because I'm a Londoner who goes to see my MIL in Somerset a lot and I see them every time I drive there.

I also see lots of signs warning me of deer and wild ponies.

But maybe that's just Somerset and me.

I have been riding for 12 years and have never had a horse shit in the middle of the road. I have never seen horse ahit in the middle of the road. Only at the side.

I do not understand why you would be riding a motorbike at any speed at the side of the road.

But it has been explained to you again and again that you cannot hop off, shovel into a bin bag & ride off with a pile of poo. It's like suggesting you sit on your head facing backwards & drive your bike with your feet.

Liberal, I'm having a Becks, much better after a long day. I'm absolutely fine, I just take issue with road users being so inconsiderate to others- not to mention being called abusive names.

There are risks everywhere for bikers, and cyclists as we are much smaller and less visible than cars. Farmers and horse riders in particular should know that - I use the minimum revs while passing horses, and slow to minimum speed. It's galling therefore when horse riders don't consider that leaving a pile of shit in the middle of the road could be dangerous to bikers.

I could quite easily do 0-60 in 4 seconds past them, full throttle, and scare the shit out of them quickly enough that they wouldn't know what had happened, but I don't, out of common courtesy, even though I don't ride horses anymore. I'd never do that, is it so unreasonable to expect a bit of the same in return?

Shona - they're talking about peeing - which a horse can hold - poo is much harder for them to hold because of the amount of eating they have to do (see previous comments about grass eating herbivores)

Also they learn to poo in one part of a box - they don't generally eat their box bedding. So no need to avoid pooing on it.

Report
FlockOfTwats · 05/03/2014 19:55

The good reason is because its far more dangerous for us to get off and pick it up.

Most people ride at the side of the road btw. I would like to know why you would be riding a motorbike that close to the side of the road at sich a speed as to not only not see said horse shit, but to come off and kill yourself.

If you're that bad a biker, maybe re think you vehicle choice.

Whoever mentioned road tax, its a tax for emissions. We were exempt with our car. Should we not have been driving??

Shonajoy · 05/03/2014 19:53

Usualsuspect they are, but some people are saying its ok if they put imaginary warning signs out.

Report
LiberalLibertine · 05/03/2014 19:52

Shona here's a Brew and some Cake there really are always going to be dangers on the roads for bikes especially,I honestly think horse shit in particular is the least of them.
