To have just shouted at a horse rider outside my house

Have namechanged for privacy.

I am so angry right now. We sometimes (twice a year at most) get horses going past our house as we live around the corner from a small private farm. We live in a city, so it's quite a novelty when we hear the sound of "clip clop" outside.

About 20 mins ago we heard the sound of clip clop and I took DS to the front room to look outside. As we watched the horses go by one stopped and kind of turned around and SHITTED RIGHT OUTSIDE MY DRIVEWAY. Not a small bit...a big arse full of horse shit. And the rider laughed at her other horsey friends.

As soon as I saw it I put my shoes on and ran outside and the rider was going on her way again. Her friends had gone up ahead. I ran up to her shouting "excuse me" and she wouldn't stop. I shouted at her if she was going to clear up the horse poo outside my house and she replied "stop shouting at me" without even turning around to see I had a toddler in my arms.

I couldn't go any further because I was holding my DS and had left a sleeping baby inside.

Now I have a pile of horse shit outside my house, and I want to actually KILL this horse rider. Our road is a school route and I don't want children stepping in it but why the fuck should I have to clear it up? I am so pissed off. I want to get into the car and hunt down the fuckers and pull them back by their ears and tell them to clean it.

You sound as mad as a box of frogs, OP!! You know the only unreasonable thing about this story is you shouting at someone on a horse whilst holding your toddler, don't you? You wanna come out to the proper countryside, love Smile

KirstyJC

Bad advice- horses have a right to be on public roads. The OP does not have the right to enter another person's property.

I ask again, how is the rider supposed to either stop the horse from going or carry a big enough shovel to scoop it up? And where would they put it?

donttrythisathome · 04/03/2014 14:02

It would drive me crazy too. Though there is nothing the horseroder copuld have done about it at the time, and shouting at the horse was a bad idea. But I do think she should come back afterwards and clean it up if on someone's property.

FrankelInFoal · 04/03/2014 14:03

But the horse poo isn't on the OP's property KirstyJC, she says herself that it is "outside my driveway".

OP you'd hate it where I work - 2,000 horses crossing the roads everyday, that's an awful lot of manure Grin

FederationPresidentBarryFife · 04/03/2014 14:03

I once went totally raving, purple faced BALLISTIC at someone who had parked so close to my gate I couldn't get through. I went fucking NUTS. I had a baby asleep, and a toddler and it was raining.

It took me ages to see that I was being so totally off the scale. I was being VERY unreasonable. Tired, lonely, lost all perspective.

You have too OP: YABU!!!!

I wouldn't shout a horse rider BTW - not that kind of person. It does just annoy me that shit is allowed to be left in the road. I don't care if it's all only digested grass, I just don't want my toddler to stand/fall over in it.

In my case - the building I live it often hosts weddings. Employees of the estate have had to have conversations with the horse riders (also employees of the estate) about making sure they clean up the poo where there can - as a couple of times, they've left massive piles of poo right where they know people will be having their wedding photos taken/will be walking from one area of the venue to another etc. You think that common sense would prevail, they know there's a wedding and there is another road they can take.

(sorry, that was all totally off point. I am annoyed about it, but certainly wouldn't shout at someone in the street about it)

(and...has no one invented a pannier type bag for the horse to wear with a fold up shovel and giant doggy bags in it? now there's a Dragon Den idea that could actually work)

BigRedBall · 04/03/2014 14:05

Wth? Horse shit is just glorified dog shit...just because it came out of a horse's arse it's like gold? Confused.

It's beginning to rain here now so there'll be runny squelchy horse poo outside my house. Great. Lovely.

horses are herbivores, their poo is fine. it doesn't smell bad at all

you are very unreasonable for shouting near horses like that, not sensible at all

can someone explain what having a toddler in your arms has to do with any of this?

I'm a total townie but even I know shouting around a horse isn't the safest thing to do, is it?

Get a shovel and plonk it on your flowerbeds. God, round our way people pay good money for horse shit!

littlepurplealien · 04/03/2014 14:05

Is shitted actually a word ?

Shat sounds better.

OTheHugeManatee · 04/03/2014 14:06

It wasn't on the OP's property. And horse poo is qualitatively different from dog or cat poo. It's made of plant matter, not meat, and as such is pretty non-toxic and excellent for the garden. Unlike cat poo So really there's no reason to get het up about horse poo, especially as it wasn't even on the OP's land.

And shouting at a horse is downright dangerous. What if the shouting had spooked the horse, caused the rider to be thrown and injured, and caused a traffic accident with a loose horse running about?

HellonHeels · 04/03/2014 14:06

Visualiseahorse is that you with a name change fail?

Ha ha if it is!

But yes, OP you are being totally U and quite ridiculous. Running shouting after a horse like that, with toddler in tow, you are lucky you didn't get a kick. Horses can be very unpredictable in their behaviour, you should walk near them, especially behind them, with caution.

Pondering now... would it be ok for a vegan to shit in the road and leave it there?

procrastinatingagain · 04/03/2014 14:08

iamsoannoyed thanks for the explanation Smile

FiscalCliffRocksThisTown · 04/03/2014 14:08

sorry, but really, does it matter?

Manchesterhistorygirl · 04/03/2014 14:08

If anyone wants lots of free horse manure then you're welcome to come and help yourself from my enormous pile at my yard.

I'm in east manchester.

OnlyLovers · 04/03/2014 14:09

YABU. Your reaction was nuts. It's not like dog shit at all because horses are herbivores. It's not like the horse shat on your carpet, either.

And how is it relevant that you had a toddler in your arms?

Sounds like you need to go back to the city op, that's no way to behave in the countryside.

Read carefully to what all the other posters have said.

You sound as if you have anger management problems. Can you imagine anyone behaving like you throughout the centuries where horse transport was the norm?

Fwiw a car emits far more dangerous toxins and pollutants than what you'll get out of a horse's backside.

Do you go screaming after after cars with a toddler in your arms? Thought not, at least you can see the waste from a horse unlike the far more dangerous, noxious fumes from a car's backside.

Jeeezz. I've heard it all now. May be you and your toddler can have fun making your own compost so that the sight of it doesn't freak you out so much. Smile
