To have just shouted at a horse rider outside my house

Have namechanged for privacy.

I am so angry right now. We sometimes (twice a year at most) get horses going past our house as we live around the corner from a small private farm. We live in a city, so it's quite a novelty when we hear the sound of "clip clop" outside.

About 20 mins ago we heard the sound of clip clop and I took DS to the front room to look outside. As we watched the horses go by one stopped and kind of turned around and SHITTED RIGHT OUTSIDE MY DRIVEWAY. Not a small bit...a big arse full of horse shit. And the rider laughed at her other horsey friends.

As soon as I saw it I put my shoes on and ran outside and the rider was going on her way again. Her friends had gone up ahead. I ran up to her shouting "excuse me" and she wouldn't stop. I shouted at her if she was going to clear up the horse poo outside my house and she replied "stop shouting at me" without even turning around to see I had a toddler in my arms.

I couldn't go any further because I was holding my DS and had left a sleeping baby inside.

Now I have a pile of horse shit outside my house, and I want to actually KILL this horse rider. Our road is a school route and I don't want children stepping in it but why the fuck should I have to clear it up? I am so pissed off. I want to get into the car and hunt down the fuckers and pull them back by their ears and tell them to clean it.

What an unpleasant post mayhavenamechanged. OP, if that's the mentality of those condemning you, I'd stop worrying about it straightaway.

FrankelInFoal · 04/03/2014 21:38

Has it not occurred to you OP, as the pile has gone, that the rider did come back and clear it up?

Bowlersarm · 04/03/2014 21:38

there is nothing stopping you from going back, horse free, to clean it up

How do you know it wasn't their intention? It probably was until they had some madwoman running after them and shrieking at them. They probably changed their mind about doing anything to help you, with your aggressive attitude.

Has anyone considered the other possibility? That it was the rider not the horse. Just saying.

MrsCaptainJackSparrow · 04/03/2014 21:39

This happened to the friend of a friend a lot . He got annoyed and one day shovelled it all up and dumped it outside the horse owners house.

Bowlersarm · 04/03/2014 21:40

Doubt the horse owner was too concerned, JackSparrow.

NationMcKinley · 04/03/2014 21:42

Procrastinating I like the smell of horse poo too Blush. Maybe we can become the horse poo trolls? Grin

Adeleh · 04/03/2014 21:42

Sorry to hear your v sad story, mrsmorton. That's terrible.

Bowlersarm · 04/03/2014 21:44

Mind you, I was a bit cross recently when a horse rider made me stop my car as i was driving towards her and turn off the engine Confused because her horse was spooked by the engine noise. Very cheeky.

maggiemight · 04/03/2014 21:44

Really should horses be on the road at all????

I mean if someone shouting might result in the horse bolting and killing or injuring the rider, or an innocent passer by, or cause a car accident, well, obviously they shouldn't be on the road but confined to tracks and field.

BigRedBall · 04/03/2014 21:46

kotinka I was nowhere near the horse for it to kick me. I was probably about 10-15 metres away so really doubt my shouting affected the horse.
I feel like people are using "the horse could bolt" theory as a threat or comeuppance for shouting. So they can just poo anywhere they want. If the horse is that dangerous, it shouldn't be on a public road.

I don't think there is anything wrong with me expecting for an animal owner to clean up their mess.

Mrsmorton · 04/03/2014 21:47

Or maybe it's the loons who run and shout at people just going about their daily business who shouldn't be on the roads. Or the people who think it's fine just to drive at the speed limit regardless. They are the ones I would rather see kept out of the way.

FrankelInFoal · 04/03/2014 21:47

Most riders will avoid roads if they can, but the urbanisation of our countryside means that many bridle paths have been bisected by roads so they have no choice but to use roadways.

aquashiv · 04/03/2014 21:48

Not a small bit...a big arse full of horse shit brilliant thanks

ThePinkOcelot
'That would piss me off tbh! I don't think horses should be rode on public highway etc as they are not insured etc but that is a whole other thread.'

A hell of a lot of car owners and drivers aren't insured either and they cause a lot more damage than horses and riders.

BTW, any horse being used in a licensed riding establishment will be covered for injury/damage to public and property and most privately owned horses will also be covered.

Over-reaction from OP and some posters.

I suspect it is because the ill-informed assume horse riding and owning a horse is elitist and only rich bitches can afford it.
Sorry to burst your bubble but most of us work bloody hard to be able to afford our hobby and our animals, most of us pay tax and are also drivers and car owners so we also pay road tax.

Roads are for public use, not motorists use and more than a few on this thread would do well to remember that.

I could argue plenty of other points in this thread about the ridiculous comments made by non-riders and non-owners but really, I just can't be arsed.

mayhavenamechangedforthis · 04/03/2014 21:56

I would laugh because legally you have not a leg to stand on! there is no way i would go back and pick the shit up.

there are lots of horses where I live and thankfully I have not come across any idiots moaning about poo. they would get no sympathy from me

LozzaCro · 04/03/2014 21:56

In all fairness, I would have felt exactly the same. I wouldn't have gone out and shouted, but I would have been boiling with rage in the same way as when dog walkers wander past, allowing their dogs to mess and then leave it. Some actually pick it up in a bag and tie it up, only to LEAVE IT AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD!

I digress. If you were to take a dog out that were slightly skittish, or spooked easily, could cause some harm if it were shouted at perhaps - it would be a ridiculous risk. Why is it any different for horses if they could potentially bolt/kick/harm someone when spooked?

Adeleh · 04/03/2014 21:59

Were you the sort of person who happily left dogshit lying around until it became an offence with a fine then mayhave?

wouldbemedic · 04/03/2014 21:59

bigredball You obviously know nothing about horses and are in no position to judge the level of risk posed by your shouting. Rushing about and yelling could certainly cause a horse to spook and bolt. It's no excuse for a rider's inconsiderate behaviour, but nor does their behaviour render the bolting any less likely to happen. Horses are 'flight' animals with eyes that are able to see behind it; they're primed to run away from danger behind them!! And no, horses that bolt under these conditions aren't necessarily dangerous, since aggression causes many creatures to react out of fear that wouldn't run away usually. Dogs may do it. And children may. The horse may never have encountered this situation before because very few people would act as thoughtlessly as you have done.

And surely you should be eating humble pie, if the dung has vanished??!

wouldbemedic · 04/03/2014 22:01

OP, I do agree that it's only considerate to go back with a shovel.

mayhavenamechangedforthis · 04/03/2014 22:01

oh dont you start as well. dog shit and horse shit are not comparable

I've never had a horse rider wave their arms at me - I suspect you are driving dangerously fast figrus - not big or clever really - you could kill someone.
