To have just shouted at a horse rider outside my house

BigRedBall · 04/03/2014 13:40

Have namechanged for privacy.

I am so angry right now. We sometimes (twice a year at most) get horses going past our house as we live around the corner from a small private farm. We live in a city, so it's quite a novelty when we hear the sound of "clip clop" outside.

About 20 mins ago we heard the sound of clip clop and I took DS to the front room to look outside. As we watched the horses go by one stopped and kind of turned around and SHITTED RIGHT OUTSIDE MY DRIVEWAY. Not a small bit...a big arse full of horse shit. And the rider laughed at her other horsey friends.

As soon as I saw it I put my shoes on and ran outside and the rider was going on her way again. Her friends had gone up ahead. I ran up to her shouting "excuse me" and she wouldn't stop. I shouted at her if she was going to clear up the horse poo outside my house and she replied "stop shouting at me" without even turning around to see I had a toddler in my arms.

I couldn't go any further because I was holding my DS and had left a sleeping baby inside.

Now I have a pile of horse shit outside my house, and I want to actually KILL this horse rider. Our road is a school route and I don't want children stepping in it but why the fuck should I have to clear it up? I am so pissed off. I want to get into the car and hunt down the fuckers and pull them back by their ears and tell them to clean it.

Just never ever go to any of the villages in the New Forest. You won't be able to cope.

Adeleh · 04/03/2014 22:07

You said that because the OP didn't have a leg to stand on legally you would laugh in her face and leave the shit. And indeed ride back every day in the hope that the horse would shit some more. It's relevantly recent for dog owners to have to pick up shit. Seems reasonable to ask.

merrymouse · 04/03/2014 22:09

Sure its been said previoudly, but dog shit and horse shit isn't the same because of their different diets.

dog poo is offensive, it smells and can cause hard. so of course I would pick that up. Hmm

MoominsYonisAreScary · 04/03/2014 22:11

I thought this must be a joke

Obviously not

mayhavenamechangedforthis · 04/03/2014 22:12

*cause harm rather

Sparrowlegs248 · 04/03/2014 22:12

Not only could you kill someone by refusing to slow down below the speed limit figrus, but that someone is likely to be you or your passenger. Half to a tonne of horse through your windscreen will possibly kill you both.

FlockOfTwats · 04/03/2014 22:15

Bigredball No dear, you said you wanted to "hunt them down" ie follow them. Id have you arrested for that.

You need some perspective. Hunting down is appropriate in cases such as avenging a loved ones death and restoring honor to thine family's name.

Not over a bit of animal shit, its just OTT.

falulahthecat · 04/03/2014 22:15

Horse poo isn't the same as dog poo. In fact when I was younger and worked in stables I came to quite like the smell of horse poo.... I was going to ask if I was weirs, then looked up and saw procrastinatingagain had said the same, so as there is now at least two of us it's obviously completely normal. Grin

falulahthecat · 04/03/2014 22:15

*weird

usualsuspect33 · 04/03/2014 22:15

Is horseshit on roads not a skidding hazard?

Ubik1 · 04/03/2014 22:16

Sorry but

big arse full of shit

Has made my night Grin

(Admittedly am at work so it doesn't take much )

ColdTeaAgain · 04/03/2014 22:17

OP and usual seriously, it's just horse poo!

YABU. Other than making your presumably immaculate driveway look untidy, I am really struggling to see the problem here!

MarlenaGru · 04/03/2014 22:17

I live in the most "townie" area you could imagine and we often have horse poo in our road from... Mounted police. I assume as they don't clean it up it must be legal. And as I don't walk in the road it doesn't pose a risk to me and to skid on such a small amount would be quite impressive!

falulahthecat · 04/03/2014 22:17

Can't believe some people are questioning whether horses should be on roads (roads were made for horse and carriage...) and saying you don't slow down for horses is just utterly moronic.
I sincerely hope that those who don't ever slow down for horses don't have to watch a rider fall and get paralysed, as happened to a childhood friend.

VivaLeBeaver · 04/03/2014 22:18

OP, don't ever go to Zermat on holiday.

They run the goats through the pedestrianised town centre twice a day on their way to and from the meadows. Loads of goats. They shit everywhere. Grin

And all those poor people in the country where sheep and cows poo on the roads. Bloody farmers never clear it up.

BoffinMum · 04/03/2014 22:19

Isn't it illegal to leave it there? Safety hazard?

fullerlonger · 04/03/2014 22:20

Actually - thinking about this - I lead my horse from his paddock to my house down a small Lane with cottages either side. Sometimes he poos right outside a cottage where I know that have a small baby and a toddler. Because my barn with wheelbarrow is near I DO actually go back and clean it up Smile

E genuinely heard it all now. Fucking safety hazard? It's not a shagging oil slick, it's a pile of horse shit.

It's only a safety hazard for figrus because she's special enough to drive at the speed limit wherever she goes taking no account of the conditions.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 04/03/2014 22:24

I really, honestly, cannot BELIEVE that anyone can be so much of a townie as to think a) horse shit is anything like dog shit, b) that riders should clear up horse shit on a PUBLIC road, c) to be clueless that you don't know you shouldn't run up shouting behind a horse, d) to feel that maybe the horse shouldn't be on the road ( horses are road users with AS MUCH right to be there as cars, and in fact were there FIRST).

Really unbelievable. Approximately 500 people are saying yes, you were being VERY unreasonable.

usualsuspect33 · 04/03/2014 22:25

Old Cow?

Seems to me that the horse lovers on here are as ranty as the OP.

meerschweinchen · 04/03/2014 22:26

mrsmorton I'm so sorry about your horse Sad

I think there are a lot of misconceptions here. Firstly, horse owners do have 3rd party insurance.
I personally would love to never have to ride on another road again. I live in a village surrounded by countryside. I still have to ride on lots of roads to get to and from and between bridlepaths! Perhaps one way to get horses off the roads would be for everyone to campaign for more bridlepaths. Then we'd all be happy.

Also there seems to be the impression that horse riders are snobby and elitist. Some are, I grant you. Most, however, are down to earth people who work long hours or even two or three jobs, to be able to finance their horses.

And I know some horse riders can be rude. Unfortunately there are always some people everywhere who are rude. Most aren't though, and if you slow down, riders should thank you. But equally, it's not really considerate or safe to drive past a horse at speed, or try to frighten them by shouting etc.

And just how is a rider supposed to pick up the horse poo?!

Apart from a few irritating, ill-informed comments, this thread has been hilarious!

LiberalLibertine · 04/03/2014 22:29

Awww BigRed least you name changed for this eh? Grin
