To have reported neighbour

Tax disc on his second car, they have a main car and a works van, ran out at the end of January.
This car is mainly parked on the road, as is the van and other car, they have room on their drive for one car,but don't use it.
I have now seen him driving the car with out of date tax 4 times now. I reported him on the DVLA website this afternoon.

Do you not get on with your neighbours or are you just a busybody?

mrsminiverscharlady · 01/03/2014 19:36

What a nasty thing to do.

RevoltingPeasant · 01/03/2014 19:38

I had a hiatus between paying for my tax disc and actually getting it once because of DVLA error. I had paid, though and never drove illegally.

Honestly why didn't you just remind him? I hate this culture of reporting people.

Despite him obviously being a dreadful criminal, there may actually be a time when you want his help, you know......

RevoltingPeasant · 01/03/2014 19:39

Also why did you start this thread if you'd already reported him?

DolomitesDonkey · 01/03/2014 19:40

Bless you, bit bored today love?

I'm guessing to try and show what an upstanding pillar of the community she is revoltingpeasant. Bit ironic everyone thinks she's a petty, vindictive snitch eh?

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 01/03/2014 19:42

Christ! I don't even look at my own tax disc, let alone anyone else's.

hotritenow · 01/03/2014 19:45

I'd like to think that my days are not that boring that I would be looking at my neighbours cars to see if their tax discs are out of date...nasty sneaky thing to do....

Birdsgottafly · 01/03/2014 19:45

So it's ok for someone to drive without insurance and a possible MOT certificate ?

If he has other vehicles and a drive, there is no reason for this car to be driven.

Unlike someone being desperate for money, so doing a small job on the side, which MN screams to report without a conscience.

RevoltingPeasant · 01/03/2014 19:48

No Birds it totally isn't okay, which is why you would remind him. Then maybe report if the situation hasn't changed a couple of weeks later.

I just don't understand why the first instinct is to try to get someone else in trouble for what may be a simple oversight.

I would only ever report someone for DV or serious child neglect or abuse. Otherwise I would have a word first.

CrohnicallyFarting · 01/03/2014 19:48

If he has indeed paid for a tax disc and not yet received it, the DVLA records will show tax paid and the complaint will be thrown out.

If however, he has not taxed or SORNed his vehicle, or if he has falsely made a SORN declaration, it will be investigated. I would rather these things were investigated, as has already been pointed out his insurance will be invalid and I would rather not be involved in an accident with what is essentially an uninsured driver.

RinkyDinkyDoo · 01/03/2014 19:49

Sorry, was just putting DS to bed.
It is illegal, and his insurance is invalid.
Would you like to be involved in an accident with his car, which he is still driving round in. You get a reminder and all the paperwork.
Petty, busy body- fair enough.

I taxed mine online a few days ago and haven't got the paper disc yet. I've just checked online and it says it's not taxed [shocked]

SylvanMuldoon · 01/03/2014 19:51

Wow how small minded and petty. Pissed you off by parking in 'your' space or something OP.

Glad i have nice neighbours and not mean twats.

manticlimactic · 01/03/2014 19:51

Even if it's sorn'ed you still have to have insurance don't you?

NeedsAsockamnesty · 01/03/2014 19:53

So why didn't you mention it to him first?

whattodoforthebest2 · 01/03/2014 19:54

OP won't know if he's got an MOT and insurance - the tax disc may be in the post/glovebox/whatever. He's taking a big risk driving around if he's not insured of course, but OP doesn't know one way or the other.

No, you don't have to have it insured if it's off the road, no tax required either. In this case, it's on the road tho'.

whattodoforthebest2 · 01/03/2014 19:54

I should add - as long as you declare it SORN.

Bearbehind · 01/03/2014 19:54

So please explain OP, why you thought it was better to report him than point out to him what might be a genuine oversight?

I do hope you are beyond reproach in all your actions..........???

YouStayClassySanDiego · 01/03/2014 19:55

He's being a tit for breaking the law and if he has no motor insurance then any accident he might be in causes additional grief for the other party.

I'm not going to give OP any grief for doing this.

He's a twat, you're not!

KittensoftPuppydog · 01/03/2014 19:56

What a small minded person you are.stop twitching the net curtains and work out what is wrong with your own life.

RiverTam · 01/03/2014 19:56

that's a very good point about his insurance being invalid - I would be livid if I was involved in an accident with such a car and ended up having to fork out for repairs.

I love the fact that everyone thinks that the neighbour is lovely and the OP is a petty busybody - the neighbour could be the kind of utter nightmare that would scream in your face if you pointed such a thing out, for all we know.

I don't get what's mean about it - if the neighbour's car is taxed it's not a problem, is it?

WitchWay · 01/03/2014 19:59

I believe the fine for not having valid road tax isn't much more than buying the thing in the first place so little incentive if you're that way inclined. Angry
