To say I didn't receive this item??

DH ordered a camera, a very pricey camera.. ( well, to me! I don't know about cameras, it's almost 1400 pounds. Annoying, but that's a whole other thread!)

Today I've been home all day, as DD1 doesn't have nursery, my plans fell through and DD2's rash looks horrific) No one knocked on my door.. No one rang the bell. I haven't hoovered or anything loud, and I have a dog who usually barks at both of these things.

I go outside to get my charger from the car and there is a box on my doorstep.

It's the camera.

Clearly unsigned for, no attempt even made.

I do live on a lovely street, but there is a school here so lots of foot traffic. Anyone could have taken it.

It's over a thousand pounds!!

I am very very tempted to tell them I didn't get it and just cancel my order...?

YANBU - I'd be really tempted as well!

I'd definitely make a big fuss about whether it was signed for and where it was left though.

curiousgeorgie · 28/02/2014 11:35

BeCool - how is it not a problem? It wasn't safely delivered, it was left outside. It could easily have been damaged or stolen and then we would have had a delay in having it, had to ask for another, possibly argued if the courier had forged our signature.

BeCool · 28/02/2014 11:40

It could have but it wasn't. You safely received it didn't you?

BeCool · 28/02/2014 11:41

*"It could easily have been damaged or stolen and then we would have had a delay in having it, had to ask for another, possibly argued if the courier had forged our signature."
It wasn't though. None of this happened. It is all in your mind.

curiousgeorgie · 28/02/2014 11:41

Be cool - so if someone almost hits you with their car, or your child almost runs in the road, do you just leave it because the end result was fine?

OP posts:
DidoTheDodo · 28/02/2014 11:42

CG yes. Life's too short to worry about all the might have beens.

BeCool · 28/02/2014 11:49

it isn't the same - there is no physical danger or threat to you or your family.

make a big fuss if you want to by all means, but all this theft and inconvenience is in your head. You have suffered no loss or inconvenience at all. You have merely imagined a whole lot of "what if's", including assuming that the delivery driver would get criminal and forge your signature if someone stole the parcel.

You are the one who wants to engage in criminal behavior by making up a bunch of lies to prove a point - that is slander!!!

I think, and it is clear from what others have expressed up thread, that this is now how many deliveries are made these days. It is their calculated risk. Complain all you want - it is how they run their business.

Feminine · 28/02/2014 11:50

curious it was a camera not a child Confused

I think you should put this in the file named posts I shouldn't have started

and have a Brew :)

in the future, to avoid such callous reckless stressful delivery drivers, you might want to consider going to a shop.

"STDG yes it is a surprise to me that anyone would read this thread, surmise they had been called a liar and then been offended.

Were you offended?"

That isn't what I asked, is it, PastPerfect - I asked if you are surprised that people don't like being called liars.

But yes, I read the OP's post, where she called fleur 'the only other honest person on the thread', as being a clear implication that the rest of the posters on the thread were dishonest - and I am offended when someone calls me dishonest.

The OP says that that post was a joke - unfortunately, it wasn't a terribly good joke, and some people, myself included, did not immediately discern the knicker-wetting hilarity that was in the OP's mind - the impression of herself that she had given up to that point on the thread led me to believe that she genuinely could consider fleur and herself to be the only honest posters on the thread.

I accept that it doesn't read that way to everyone - that is the problem with words on a website - we cannot see the OP's expression, nor can we read her mind, and so different, equally intelligent, people can easily get the opposite ends of the stick.

If I jokingly implied that almost all the other posters on a thread were stupid/liars/whatever, and someone found this offensive, I would apologise - I wouldn't go on trying to justify why no apology was needed, because I believe it is good manners to apologise if offence has been caused, even if it was accidental. I hope I wouldn't employ terms like Professionally Offended, as some have on here, in an attempt to silence views I did not like.

TheArticFunky · 28/02/2014 12:09

How can it be acceptable to steal? I would complain about the shoddy service and ask them to collect the camera if you are concerned that it has been damaged in any way. I cannot believe that you are considering stealing it. That's appalling. Are you normally a thief?

It's no different than me asking if I am
being unreasonable to take home a couple of laptops from PC World because the store assistants were gossiping and not doing their job properly.

You need to take a cold hard look at yourself OP.

OurMiracle1106 · 28/02/2014 12:14

I would be making a complaint about it, and how it was left in a non secure location could have stolen it quite easily. Make it clear that in future you will be taking your custom elsewhere, or alternatively return it as you are taking your custom elsewhere.

BeCool · 28/02/2014 12:17

Well I'm a bit fucked off the OP thinks the possibility of my child nearly being run over is comparable to the OP's camera NOT being stolen - I mean in who's world/mind is that an acceptably analogy to make?

If it was a joke it really isn't funny. Bit twisted.

MadBusLady · 28/02/2014 12:25

BeCool but unsurprising in someone who also holds the belief that everyone is basically on the make at others' expense and anyone who claims not to be must be lying. As a JOKE!!!!! obviously Wink

Aeroflotgirl · 28/02/2014 12:30

Be cool that is not the point. The courier should have knocked on the door and asked for a signature not just leave the item on the doorstep. Yes it could well be damaged, it is pouring down here and was yesterday, even 5 mins in the rain could mean it's damaged. I would therefore nit accept the item, phone up tge company to explain and see that tgey sent me a new camera that will be signed for.

Aeroflotgirl · 28/02/2014 12:31

Op probably made that comparison in haste, of course it's not true, you cannot compare that to a child, but tge service fell very short and I would not accept that camera

BeCool · 28/02/2014 12:31

BUT IT WASN'T DAMAGED OR STOLEN!!! yes I am shouting.

BeCool · 28/02/2014 12:40

it is pouring down here
what has this got to do with anything? The OP has not mentioned that the camera/parcel was wet or water damaged?

curiousgeorgie · 28/02/2014 12:41

Be cool - and that is why people say 'professionally offended.'

Just be thankful you found it before someone else. Complain about the delivery company though.

perfectstorm · 28/02/2014 12:44

The thing is, the people most badly affected by this incompetence on the part of the courier are the company selling the camera. Not you. You never signed for it and so any signature is forged, and you could claim your money back without too many problems, if you paid with a credit card (and only an idiot would buy something this expensive by any other method). The company would have a chargeback so lose their camera and the money, and then have to chase the courier, which would take forever and leave them without that cash plus a huge headache. And it would also sabotage their relationship with that courier, because of the dispute.

I think the company need to know what happened - I can't imagine they will take it lightly, given the risk to them. It wasn't their fault, they didn't do it, so why even contemplate punishing them for something that was never going to be more than a slight headache for you, anyway?

And in all honesty it would never cross my mind to just keep it, no. I'd be on the phone to the company asking to speak to someone senior instead, because they need to know this is happening - it exposes them to fraud and theft.
