To tell you that Bad Mothers Club is closing tomorrow

Just in case there are any stray ex-BMs here, I thought I'd let you all know that BMC is finally closing tomorrow

You can see the announcement here

It's a sad day but one that has been long coming.

I hope the powers that be at Mumsnet Towers won't mind me posting this here - there was never an official affiliation between the two sites but a friendly nod was sometimes exchanged.

Goodbye BMC. I made some fabulous friends there and I will miss you

What about all the (usually ill-advised but kindly meant) whiprounds :D

WireCat · 14/02/2014 16:04

That's site as my lifeline for a while.

This site is very good. I do love mumsnet tbh! I mean, sometimes I roll my eyes in frustration but on the whole, it's a good bunch here.

People on both sites have been lovely to me.

Made some excellent good proper friends on bad mums.

WireCat · 14/02/2014 16:05

That site was*

ScrambledSmegs · 14/02/2014 16:16

Oh, that's a shame. I did like the look of bmc but the sub put me off joining. As pictish said, it was really off-putting to new traffic.

Mn has been great for me though. I have my thread friends, we've gone off-board and met in RL. I think all you need, anywhere online, is to find a place you feel at home and welcomed. I'm so glad that bmc was that place and made so many people happy. Thanks.

Cockadoodledooo · 14/02/2014 16:36

Ds1 made me a post work cuppa in my BMC mug today. Dug it out the back of the cupboard quite randomly. Bizarre coinkydink.

momb · 14/02/2014 16:57

BMC was the first forum I ever joined. They were lovely to me for a while. They also taught me my most important internet lesson.
I happily paid my sub when it became necessary. Things were a bit tits up techwise and my userid got blocked as soon as I paid. I was massively overinvested (marriage imploding, tens of posts every day) and without BMC for days I was frantic with no outlet. No answer to emails. I was actually crying with relief when I realised that my alter still worked (we call them NCs here), but it meant I had to out myself with all the really personal stuff I'd been posting as my alter to go onto the tech page and post that they'd locked me out. I tried to be funny but as I was actually desperate it just came across as ranty. As one the BMC faithful turned round and ripped me to pieces. Tried to apologise, to explain, but nothing worked. So my lifeline was gone, horribly gone, because of one badly worded message. Never went back. Never invested myself in a forum for anything important in my life ever again. A useful lesson actually.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 17:17

Oh bloody hellSad hope you're in a better place now.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/02/2014 17:28

Oh momb :(

You;re right. We should take off the rose tinted specs a bit. It could be fucking brutal as well. I've certainly had some maulings on there!

GreenPetal94 · 14/02/2014 17:30

momb I'm sorry BMC was cruel to you. I loved the place, but always just kept a wee bit on the side lines

momb · 14/02/2014 17:32

much better: got myself out of my marriage, got some RL friends.
Actually this was completely the wrong thread to put that on. I'm sorry. BMC had some great fun stories and taught me a lot.
I'd never heard the phrase 'like a spaniel's ear' until the one where the poor woman was racing to put out the wheely bin in her nighty over gravel and trod in a nappy on the way out so there she was, poo up her (bare) leg and foot, stuggling with the bin, wondering why all the binmen were standing back and laughing at her, when she looked down and realised her boob was hanging out 'like a spaniel's ear@. Still make me chortle now.
Or when someone called the post office because she'd had a note through the door about a parcel that needed collecting and when she walked in they all bowed as the parcel was from another BMCer and had been labelled to the Queen of Mooncups. Funny until they asked her what mooncups were!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 17:57

The place could turn on a six pence, and often did.

pictish · 14/02/2014 18:00

Yes it could be brutal.
I got firmly pushed through the grater on there a few times too, but fortunately for me in regards to that, I'm jolly thick skinned and it never actually bothered me that much.
By the same token, I was definitely a mauler on occasion myself. It took me quite a long time to appreciate that some people do genuinely feel hurt by 'words on a screen'.
Because I have personally never particularly been perturbed by being torn strips off on the internet (and believe me, I've had some venom directed towards me in my time...sometimes deserved, sometimes not) I didn't quite understand why people got so upset by a shredding, and wasn't especially sympathetic to it. I guess I just didn't relate.
I have ended up apologising a good few times for coming over as overly harsh.
I like to think I've learned to be more empathetic as a poster now, regarding that sort of business...but I know I'll always retain an element of bluntness that might get me into trouble.
At the time I type it, I think that what I'm saying wouldn't bother me - but sometimes it doesn't hurt to remember that other posters aren't me.

I don't think I was involved in your particular mauling though Momb...

Mabelface · 14/02/2014 18:04

I may or may not know who The Visitor was. Wink

Mabelface · 14/02/2014 18:06

Momb, I hope I wasn't involved in your mauling, I tended to have splinters in my arse from that fence most of the time.

momb · 14/02/2014 18:29

'splinters in my arse' is another thing that BMC taught me :D

It was all years ago (at least 7). I remember the event but none of the people and bear no ill will! It was my own fault as I was just far to invested.

PurpleKittyKnitting · 14/02/2014 20:02

It was the subs that did it for me in the end, I paid the first year but then when the renewals came, I remember thinking, well I don't have the money right now, will see what happens...'

Never posted again, just used to read what I could sometimes, as I initially thought that when I did have the money I would renew.

I found some of the popular posters annoying, and when I joined fb, people thought I was Denbee as my real name could be that!

nuckin · 15/02/2014 07:38

Am almost tempted to join here properly. They have strikethrough Grin

cjdamoo · 15/02/2014 07:57

It was good whilst it lasted. I met some lovely folk through that site. I connected with others but never had the chance to meet them. I swear Hobbes got me through the toughest period of my life with little more than straight talking and kind words.

It made 2 pregnancy's bearable, just been able to admit that I found been pregnant shit with no judgment.

I remember Listening to leece on singsnap and it making my older boy cry :D

WherewasHonahLee · 15/02/2014 07:58

What happened at the Saffron Walden meet?

YouTheCat · 15/02/2014 10:00

Ah yes, Leece's legendary singing. All lost in the ether now though.

Greenkit · 15/02/2014 15:47

I loved BMC, i post here but sometimes mumsnet feels a bit grown up. I liked the stupid talk about drinking wine and ignoring the kids. The spats, flounces and snowflakes.

I remember Fairbadmothers son, everytime I hear the song 'new shoes', I met Darkbear and others.

AnimalsAreMyFriends · 15/02/2014 15:51

We went to Leith's and learnt how to cook - it was awesome, stayed in a hotel & 4madboys & I talked until the early hours!!!!

Went to crumpetlovers baby shower with retrozebra & we stayed with the lovely strongcoffee!

It all reads back like a bizarre code now Grin

MrsPnut · 15/02/2014 15:53

Waves to Animals, I was at both of those events too!

AnimalsAreMyFriends · 15/02/2014 15:55

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/02/2014 16:18
