To tell you that Bad Mothers Club is closing tomorrow

BadMothersClubInterloper · 13/02/2014 20:59

Just in case there are any stray ex-BMs here, I thought I'd let you all know that BMC is finally closing tomorrow

You can see the announcement here

It's a sad day but one that has been long coming.

I hope the powers that be at Mumsnet Towers won't mind me posting this here - there was never an official affiliation between the two sites but a friendly nod was sometimes exchanged.

Goodbye BMC. I made some fabulous friends there and I will miss you

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 11:26

I loved how the mods were all secret squirrel but everyone knew who they were Wink

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 11:26

Jilly Goulden!!! Grin

ClarkGable · 14/02/2014 11:30

I have no idea if she actually looked like Jilly Goulden btw, just an impression I formed!

shakethetree · 14/02/2014 11:30

Sorry to gate crash but this thread keeps coming up on my 'threads I'm on' ( I posted on it yesterday wishing you all well Smile )

....but, can I just say something? maybe the fact that you were all the same ( bad non-judgemental mothers ) made things a little boring?
yes, MN can be a bit judgy at times, but only on certain threads - & I quite like being told I'm a ridiculous arse if it's true ( which it is on occasion ) everyone telling me I'm wonderful, even when I know I'm not, would be a bit weird after a while.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 11:32

clark actually you weren't that wrong Wink

shake nope, there were a LOT of errr 'characters' there, it was great in it's time.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 11:33

That looks like I was being rude about Buffy - I wasn't, I meant they were both blonde.

ClarkGable · 14/02/2014 11:35

shakethetree, for the period I was on there, it wasn't boring at all. It was funny and there was a feeling of camaraderie. At the time I had more affiliation with MN, coupled with the fact MN was also less huge (although still much bigger than bmc) & troll-filled, so that's why I didn't become a regular on bmc. MN for me then, was more pertinent because I wanted a lot of advice about child-related stuff and I wanted to be anonymous for that but if I was more into just chatting and having a silly laugh, it would have been bmc without a doubt.

oldwomaninashoe · 14/02/2014 11:38

I was so busy last night I didn't bother to log on, also as I hadn't been able since Monday, I felt it was probably going to disappear anyway.
BMC'rs.......Fine bunch of wimmin Grin

('tis Aged by the way)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 11:38

Aged I remember you!!

pictish · 14/02/2014 11:39

Shake no - we were no nicey nicey Nethuns sparklebabes by a long shot.

It went down the pan because the first owner (Steph Calman) introduced subscription fees...so we had to pay to post. That stopped all new traffic from turning into our street dead.
If someone is looking for aparenting forum to join, do they go for the one that costs £12 or the one that is free?

Us diehards limped along with no new blood for a long time, before it inevitably dwindled slowly but surely to nowt. That took a long time though.

The problem wasn't that it was boring, but that after subs no one else came along to replace the posters who had moved on in life and left...as happens with all forums.

crunchbag · 14/02/2014 11:39

shake, god no it wasn't like that at all. If you were ridiculous you got told so in no uncertain terms. There just wasn't the angst about fruitshoots and sausage rolls and the likes.

pictish · 14/02/2014 11:43

Yes...there was no fruit shoot angst at all. No one gave a shit about that stuff, and most of us were able to discuss enjoying active social lives going out at night to pubs without being told by some po face that they felt sorry for our children. Wink

BitOutOfPractice · 14/02/2014 11:45

It was the absolute opposite of boring shake. Sharp, funny, outrageous, heartwarming. All at the same time

I have made some of my best RL friends on there and will remember it with tremendous fondness

shakethetree · 14/02/2014 11:47

ClarkGable; I know what you mean about the feeling of camaraderie, but you can still have that on here despite it's size. Posters start their own club type threads and chat to the same people everyday, so it can almost feel like your own site within the site ( iykwim ) and yes, there are posters who just stick to being judgy on AIBU, but you can also have a good laugh on there. But I must say, the support here is amazing ( in a good way Grin )

YouTheCat · 14/02/2014 12:04

You can get a feeling of camaraderie on here but it takes a lot longer to get to know names/attitudes/similar people and gel with them because the place is massive.

Subs did it for bmc. Worst thing ever wonder if I'll get a refund?

But bmc was so much different from here and most definitely not like nethuns.

shakethetree · 14/02/2014 12:07

pictish; oh that's a shame. Money talks eh?

pictish · 14/02/2014 12:13

It sure does.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 12:42

The whole subs thing was outrageous, can you imagine that happening here?! Shock

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 12:45

pictish I just looked at your profile, I remember when your dd was born, she's practically an adult now! Shock Grin

Shame I had to ditch Fakebook, I liked catching up with people on there, it's nice to see people again Smile

BitOutOfPractice · 14/02/2014 12:45

No here you just get endless ads, sponsored links and celebs plugging their latest product!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 12:46

Very true!

MrsMot · 14/02/2014 12:46

Shake it was a completely diverse group, the last word to describe it was boring!
Buffy as Jilly Goolden - ha!!!!!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 12:56

Actually pictish I think it was your ds2 I remember, it was that long ago!!!

Catsmamma · 14/02/2014 12:59

it really was different to every other forum I have ever known

it was ALL about the conversations and interactions, every other forum is based on a post your query, read the replies...never the same flow between OP/Posters and even between posters.

I have seen that camaraderie on a few threads here, but it's not the norm here and it really was on BMC

So sad it's a goner and been put out of its misery like some sad old scabby dog.
