If you're buying socks because you noticed -this morning when you stole some-- that his are getting tatty or he asked you to get some while you were out then fine. If you're buying them because poor love he's utterly useless at that sort of thing and just wouldn't have any at all if I didn't take responsibility then not fine.

Ahem, sorry, yes I do. I pick up bits for him, he does the same for me. It's a partnership. We do stuff for each other.

hickorychicken · 11/02/2014 16:55

I dont think he would buy himself if i didnt do it, that doesnt bother me though...should it? Hmm

There are guys who can't pack their own kit for a trip?

Honestly baffling. But then I'm rather confused by ANY alleged adult that can't take care of themselves and their home or is unwilling to pull their weight.

curlew · 11/02/2014 17:01

"Only form adult relationships with other adults"

If I teach my children one thing, it will be that.

curlew · 11/02/2014 17:02

Hickory- so if he lived alone he would have no socks?

Bloodyteenagers · 11/02/2014 17:03

I wouldn't know how many pairs of socks he has or what state they are in. But occasionally we will pick stuff up for each other and the dc's.

hickorychicken · 11/02/2014 17:06

Well i suppose he would have to do it but what i meant was if i didnt buy them, he wouldnt, so i woould do it in the end. It really doesnt bother me haha Smile

We all wear dp's socks because he has the nicest ones. So we sometimes buy him a pair or two to top them up until he has time to go to Austin Reed to get more lovely ones. Which I will steal, forget I am wearing and go into the garden without shoes.......Grin

CoffeeTea103 · 11/02/2014 17:11

I buy DH socks, clothes, underwear basically everything and I don't expect him to do the same. I also pack his suitcase. I don't expect anything in return too.

RhondaJean · 11/02/2014 17:11

It all depends to the attitude to the sock buying IMO.

Yes I buy socks for DH. DH also buys socks for himself, and sometimes socks for me. If he viewed sock buying as a piece of domestic trivia which was far too important for the owner of the almighty penis to engage in,he would have very cold feet. And a very cold bed.

There's also an element of infantilisation to some of the posts on here, as if the ownership of the almighty penis means subnormal intelligence when it comes to the purchase of basic items.

If thoses attitudes are avoided on both sides, then sock purchasing shouldn't be a feminist issue.

QueenofKelsingra · 11/02/2014 17:12

i buy all DH's clothes [shrug] i can go in the week when its quieter and we don't have to waste family time shopping. obviously if he wants something special he will go himself but pants, socks, work clothes and general causal i buy for him.

i enjoy being a 1950s housewife though Grin

wintertimeisfun · 11/02/2014 17:12

i bought dh some the other day from m&s because they were MR MEN socks, pretty cool :0)

QueenofKelsingra · 11/02/2014 17:13

oh, and DH selects his own clothes for trips (with the occasional 'Queen what shirt shall i take?') but i pack it as he is useless at folding/packing clothes!!

mrsjay · 11/02/2014 17:14

my husband does the packing coffee he is great at it i panic and just throw stuff we dont need in cases so he pays me back for me buying his socks Grin

hickorychicken · 11/02/2014 17:16

Ah see i buy but dp packs, packing gets me irate. He is bloody good at it too :)

Only on MN could it be seen as wrong to shop for the other person Hmm

Men cant win on here. They are expected to work to provide so their wives can stay home not working yet are then moaned at if on to if that they dont do the night feeds, housework and the shopping! When did so many women become so lazy.

Purplepoodle · 11/02/2014 17:31

I always buy OHs socks and pants (usually at the supermarket) as he would wear hole ridden, worn out ones
