To be annoyed with what happened to DC at school today!

DC have packed lunch and usually their lunch consist of Water a cathedral city snack, sandwiches and some sort of fruit usually apple slices. I packed DD lunch which was water, cheese snack bites, apple slices and sandwiches. When DD went to lunch the dinner ladies look in her box and told her she couldn't have her sandwich as it was unhealthy it was a BLT with cheese as they deemed it to be unhealthy it was confiscated!!! DD came home in tears and was pretty upset. AIBU to complain? DD has allergies so the school meals do not suit her that why she has packed lunch.

God, did they provide her with a suitable alternative? Or just let her go hungry? I'd go all gob shite on them if they did this to one of mine!

YADNBU!!! This is really out of order!! If they deem something to be unhealthy within her packed lunch (not saying whether she should or shouldn't be eating a BLT sandwich) then they need to let you know not to pack it in future!! They shouldn't have let your DD go hungry! Terrible!

I would be furious if anyone removed any food from my child's lunch. If they have a problem with what I send then take it up with me!

Unless there was something in there that was banned for safety reasons they had no grounds to take her food - and even then they should have provided her with a suitable alternative.

I don't believe any school would confiscate a child's sandwich. The worst that could have happened was that she was told to bring something else next time. There is no way her lunch would have been confiscated.

How old is DD? Is there a chance she didn't get her story straight? I can't believe that they would decide a sandwich like that was unhealthy. Damn near every kid in my class has chocolate spread or jam!
I would speak to the school and check that they know, dinner ladies can become a law unto themselves.

Poor little girl, she must have been really embarassed, not to mention hungry. One of my friends teaches Primary, and has had children bring cold MacDonalds from the night before in for their lunch, so a BLT isn't that much to worry about, is it?

What's more unhealthy a child eating a Blt sandwich - containing protein, carbs possibly some fat on the bacon and some veg ie a balanced meal or going hungry.

You need to take this up with the school. If your dd is correct, that is utterly appalling.

I like to think i know a bit about nutrition. What's wrong with a blt? better than 50% of the packed lunches here.

I once foolishly sent ds1 with a fairy cake he'd decorated with sweets (no sweets rule) They removed the sweets but let him eat the cake and the sweets were sent home in his box. They can't confiscate food or let her go hungry. I really think there must be something lost in translation. How odd is she?

DS was told he couldn't eat his jam sandwich when he was 5 (Jam sandwiches were not allowed, apparently). So I can believe this can and does happen.

DD asked if she could have the school dinner and was declined and told other kids are waiting.

People really really need to learn whats unhealthy don't they. A BLT is hardly choc spread sarnie. I also find all this taking food from packed lunches odd seeing as the school meals all have pudding every day include burgers and chips which is far less healthy than a BLT!

I'd be furious and telling them that if they touch her lunch box again it'll be classed as theft. Fucking lunch box nazi's and this is coming from someone who has a kid that has school lunches.

Please don't jump on me, but we were told at a recent staff meeting that Ofsted will from now on be holding schools responsible for the content of packed lunches because they believe we should be accountable for healthy eating. I was a bit when I heard this, but there have been a few stories on here recently that make me worry it might be true.

As a parent I am if it is true. As a teacher, I am because there are far more important issues for which we need to be able to rely on parental support and this would just put us in the firing line. Also, it is one meal out of possibly a whole day's grazing on who knows what rubbish, so not sure it will really make any positive difference.
