OPs may be ignorant, they maybe obtuse, they may be in the wrong and they may be trolls...

but how can dozens upon dozens of swearing riddled instructions to carry out intimate acts be considered a reasonable response?

For some people MN is the first forum they frequent. It is perfectly possible to post something that is innocently ignorant yet massively outrageous to MNers. Then suddenly you are being called all the names under the sun and told to fuck yourself preferably until dead? really?

Believe me it can be a massive shock that people say things on the internet they would never say in real life. It is possible to feel very very frightened and threatened by such an onslaught.

AIBU to think if the last 5 posters have covered the 'fuck off to the far side of fuck' angle then maybe you don't need to stick the boot in too?

The best case scenario is that the person on the other end is indeed a troll....in which case why are you giving them what they want?

They might - but often they don't.

But really, if someone comes here with a POV that is markedly different from the predominant one on this site, they tend to get told to fuck off. Not by everyone - there are some very intelligent people willing to discuss. But there are an equal number of idiots chanting "goady fucker".

This is meant to be a discussion site. We need more than one point of view for that to work.

What a shame, Mary, that you haven't a been able to understand what Ice, I and others are saying.

It's not about supporting trolls. It's about following a simple rule so that innocent people don't get shat on by spiteful people who have decided all by themselves that they are a troll.

Kind of like the situation last week where you and your friends treated someone with clear mental health issues like shit because you decided (with no evidence & in spite of MNHQ vouching for the poster) was someone else in disguise.

Ice being. If you are talking about that thread about nappies for teenagers, one thing you need to realise is that MN has quite a large proportion of parents with DC's with Special Needs. A lot of our DC's have been in nappies as teenagers, or still are in nappies.

I for one found it offensive that someone could 'not see a reason' why there are nappies for teenagers - because I have LIVED that need. If I choose to get angry about a thread like that, would it not be sensible to think about the reasons WHY that might be?

Much as the OP of that thread should have engaged THEIR brain and thought about the reasons WHY there might be nappies for teenagers.

I don't support trolls. I support a system that prevents innocent people being branded as trolls by dimwits who think because they've been around for ages they have a magical ability to spot one.
