Yes,I know,I'm a bit late Grin but just started catching up on Netflix.
Have been told by lots if people that I'll love it,watched episode 4 last night & Its not grabbed me.Also annoyed by the over use of that awful term 'retard'.My daughter has CP,but that's another thing altogetherHmm
I love stuff like Homeland,True Blood,Criminal Minds,The Walking Dead but am struggling with this one??

I love it now BUT I had to stick with it to get there. I wasn't loving it until end of season one (which is only 7 episodes!)/beginning of season 2.

Was binge watching season 2, then felt it dipped slightly mid-season 3. Watched end of season 3 last night and it was GOOD.

Hope 4 and 5 live up to expectations!

Showy · 05/02/2014 11:41

I gave up on it too. I found it gratuitous, bleak, occasionally clunky and it left me feeling like I wished I could undo watching it.

And I don't mind violence or dark humour. My favourite series is about as bleak and dark as it gets, but BB I couldn't connect with on any level.

Showy · 05/02/2014 11:42

Breaking Bad threads remind me of We Need To Talk About Kevin threads. People rave about that too and I found it absolutely turgid.

AryaOfHouseSnark · 05/02/2014 11:46

I loved it, I really miss watching it actually.
I need another box set to get in to, loved the wire, walking dead, game of thrones etc.
I really couldn't get in to the fringe. Loads of people said they like it but I was very [meh]

GoshAnneGorilla · 05/02/2014 11:50

Showy - what's your favourite series?

I haven't watched BB, not sure I can bothered if it's excessively bleak.

crispycronut · 05/02/2014 11:55

The episode with the fly was great.

When Walt says "make it count" and the camera goes straight to Jessies face was pure brilliance!

JoinYourPlayfellows · 05/02/2014 11:56

I wouldn't say BB was bleak. It's actually quite funny.

And there are some great characters and it has quite interesting politics.

I also would like to know what is this really bleak and brilliant series you mention, Showy.

AryaOfHouseSnark · 05/02/2014 11:59

Grin yes me too.

riskit4abiskit · 05/02/2014 12:17

We are up to series three and I can't decide if I am hooked or not.

I never noticed Maries obsession with purple til my friend pointed it out!

I think I may have a shameful crush on hank (and he was in starship troopers!)

HettiePetal · 05/02/2014 13:31

The only thing that was able to console me after the end of BB was Orange Is The New Black - a silly name for what is basically a really good, gripping show. It's no BB, but I'd heartily recommend it. Although be quick and get series one under your belt because series two is due quite soon.

I hated the Wire & Sopranos, but absolutely loved Dexter until it lost it's way after series five and descended into tedious, badly acted bullcrap (the very last episode was jaw droppingly terrible).

SayMyNameSayIt · 05/02/2014 13:53

Obviously, I will have to say YABVVVU ;-)

I watched it from the beginning; I'd seen trailers on FX (later changed to FOX), as I was watching Dex, which I also loved.

Said to Dh, this looks good, and we started watching. Tbh, I was hooked just from the original trailer!

I then started buying it from amazon US, and it was great to have the box sets. It's the best programme I've ever seen and I now plan to watch it all over again.

The writing is great, the acting is incredible, I can't fault it. Well, only is as much as there is no more!!!

I disagree about the female characters, I liked Skyler and Marie.

For any fans who don't know, there is a spin-off series, Better Call Saul. Am looking forward to that, he was a great character. Hope Skinny Peter and Badger turn up in it!

Each to their own though, but I honestly can't understand anyone not liking it!

"Tread lightly", those of you who don't. "I am the one who knocks."

slightly obsessed fan here

Helpyourself · 05/02/2014 13:54

Hank's a lovely guy. There are whole websites dedicated to 'color theory' in BB.

JoinYourPlayfellows · 05/02/2014 14:05

For any fans who don't know, there is a spin-off series, Better Call Saul.

Funnily enough, my ambivalence towards BB changed the very first episode with Saul in it.

I've been saying to DH that I'd love to watch a show about him.

And now they've made it!

Just for meeeeeee :o

mindthegap01 · 05/02/2014 16:15

Stick with it! My DH and I were BB addicts and watched it every night for about 3 weeks. It just gets better and better. Trust me, soon you too will want to adopt Jesse!

Ifcatshadthumbs · 05/02/2014 16:22

i've just binge watched my way through the entire 5 series. I think it's hard at first because none of the characters are entirely sympathetic. i was surprised by how much I came hate Walt. I didn't like Hank at all to start but thought he was a great character in the end.

jesse just made me want to wrap him up in a blanket and look after him.

JennyCalendar · 05/02/2014 17:07

I've not managed to get into BB.

I have just finished watching all of Season 1 of Orange is the New Black. Loved it! Going by your list of programmes that you enjoy, we seem to have similar tastes, so give it a go. I was hooked from episode 1.

Bettercallsaul1 · 05/02/2014 18:10

SayMyNameSayIt - Great news about spin-off series! Just hope it won't be a disappointment compared to BB!!

That's two threads now, started by people who don't like/hate (gulp!) Breaking Bad!! I'm going to have to start one, saying how much I love it! It's one of the best TV dramas of all time.

LizLemongrass · 05/02/2014 18:20

Cant wait for Better call Saul!

SayMyNameSayIt · 05/02/2014 18:28

bettercallsaul1

Wanna cook????
You seem like my kinda gal!

yummystepford · 05/02/2014 18:40

You won't ever like Walt, he's a twat and gets worse. I however sill loved it! Weeds has a similar idea but delivered in a funnier nicer way and I loved the characters. Much better than breaking bad. Both highly addictive!

DipMeInChocolate · 05/02/2014 18:53

I'm eally enjoying BB but know not everyone will.enjoy it. I loved Dexter and True blood but they got a bit lost in the end.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 05/02/2014 19:04

Oh my goodness, I just loved Breaking Bad! I couldn't bear Walt, but both DH and I loved the series. There were just one or two "filler" episodes that I found really dull, and had I been waiting a week to see it, I would have felt really cheated.

Since then we have watched Series 1 of the excellent House of Cards (can't wait until next week for series 2), and have just started Orange is the New Black, which I'm finding v entertaining.

Can you tell that we recently got a Netflix subscription??

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 05/02/2014 19:04

Would like to see Weeds, but it's not on Netflix!

Bettercallsaul1 · 05/02/2014 21:00

SayMyNameSayIt - Can't wait! Just on my way out to rustle us up an old RV...

Lookingforadvice123 · 05/02/2014 21:14

I've watched all but series 5 and I've loved it from the beginning! BUT I've found it v depressing / bleak and I can't watch too many episodes at once - I'm very delicate/sensitive and don't like hard drug use, it's that more than the violence which upsets me.

Character-wise, I warmed to Jesse pretty much straight away, I think he's the most 'real', and the episode in S3 when he goes go-karting on his own made me want to cry. Walt is horrible even as an ill man, total egomaniac who just gets worse! Don't think he's supposed to be likable.
