To be completely aghast at OH's roast dinner habit?!

We've been together 11 months in total but managed to avoid this til tonight (possibly because it is the first time I've actually cooked him a roast). While I was dishing up, he mentioned putting pickled onions on his dinner. Obviously, I thought he was joking so continued to serve up while he poured drinks. He then produces a jar of pickled onions from the cupboard and puts them on his dinner!!

SEVEN PICKLED ONIONS ON A ROAST PORK DINNER!!!

AIBU to consider this a deal breaker and get my online dating profile up and running?

my ex used to commit the sin of turning all his dinners into butties four slices of bread and butter and the dinner used to vanish into the bread never did understand that one

BashfulClam · 27/12/2020 21:24

DJ and in laws do the weird mint sauce thing and think I’m weird for liking gravy? Any roast dinner gets mint sauce on it!

Winterwoollies · 27/12/2020 21:27

I know this is an ancient thread but my friend’s ex boyfriend’s mum used to serve tonnes of plain pasta on the side of the roast because her ‘darling boy’ liked it as a child. Weird.

LTB!

Daphnise · 27/12/2020 21:44

It seems to me an uneducated habit, that should be broken as quickly as possible.

Chanjer · 27/12/2020 22:07

Pickles
Butter
Peanut butter

They go with pretty much everything

Liedownsnikey1965 · 27/12/2020 22:56

Haha that's funny

CoconutLassi · 27/12/2020 22:56

Liedownsnikey1965 · 27/12/2020 22:57

Yummy beetroot I love it

Liedownsnikey1965 · 27/12/2020 22:57

Haha great stuff

Liedownsnikey1965 · 27/12/2020 22:58

Haha that's strange

Twofurrycatsagain · 27/12/2020 23:16

I love pickled onions but have realised, reading this thread, that I only have them with cold meals. Apart from on bonfire night when we used to do meat and potato pie with red cabbage and pickled onions.
I never buy mint sauce but used to put it on the peas at the carvery.
And this thread has reminded me to do thinly sliced cucumber in vinegar.

VestaTilley · 27/12/2020 23:17

LTB.

nocoolnamesleft · 27/12/2020 23:19

Not had a roast in 11 months? You are both completely unreasonable!

Kissthepastrychef · 27/12/2020 23:24

OMFG 😳

Kissthepastrychef · 27/12/2020 23:25

Pickled onions = lovely
Roast dinner = lovely
Roast + pickled onions = 🤢

IamMariahScarey · 27/12/2020 23:36

I have mint sauce with every single roast!! Sausage and mash, cottage pie, pie and mash, you name it. It’s covered in mint sauce

anotherwinkywinkybumbum · 27/12/2020 23:45

Best zombie resurrection ever. Grin

user1473878824 · 27/12/2020 23:48

@TheNightIsDark

YANBU.

DPs family have mint jelly (not even sauce) with all roasts.

I have to be physically restrained from grabbing it out of their hands and screaming "it's for fucking lamb" Hmm

My face screwed up at even the idea of this so much I now need Botox. I am now gunning for you to say something. Please.
user1473878824 · 27/12/2020 23:49

Oh god zombie, sorry

ghostmous3 · 28/12/2020 09:52

I have mint sauce on all my roasts.
And Yorkshire puds
I even put Mint sauce on cottage pie.

I'm trying the pickled onions next op. What a great idea!

partyatthepalace · 28/12/2020 13:48

I guess it cuts the richness?!

I mean I am with you, but I wouldn’t change my dating profile, till he whips out ketchup or HP. (As long as he understands pickled onions are still deviant and only does it at home..)
