Maybe I'm being miserable but my fb feed is full of friends from uni/school downing pints and nominating others
To do the same.

I'm 30 and I'm cringing at how they haven't moved on from the whole student drinking games culture.

It's highlighting to me past it I am Smile but I'd much rather be enjoying a cuppa snuggling my 2 boys.

Anyone else?

On my facebook feed this am is a story about an Irish DJ that died, and the story says that this may have been a factor - although a postmortem is needed.

I'd never heard of it before.

Ladyflip · 02/02/2014 08:25

I was wondering when this would pop up! My FB feed is covered in them. They seem to be the agricultural types mainly, do you think the same?
I'm dreading DH getting nominated as he is sure to be within the next week.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 02/02/2014 08:26

I did a thread Friday night after ds3 found a fb video of ds1-18 doing this, stripped down to his boxers and wearing flashing bunny ears.

I was horrified, and the crap that he had to drink included vodka, a raw egg and toothpaste.

He couldn't understand my concern at all.

Daft buggers.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 02/02/2014 08:27

It's rife at our school. Started with year 11 boys and has now spread down the years.head is livid, so expecting assembly about it this week.

Smoorikins · 02/02/2014 08:30

This is a link to the story.www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/young-dj-found-dead-amid-3102987

FrigginRexManningDay · 02/02/2014 08:33

One of the managers that works in the same company as Dh has just had a disciplinary over this.
She was still wearing her work trousers with just her bra on top.

Monetbyhimself · 02/02/2014 08:33

Ladyflip presumably your DH is a grown man who understands what an utterly idiotic thing to do this is ?

SayraT · 02/02/2014 08:34

My facebook is the same. One of my friends (in her 30's) told me I better get watching and thinking.

If anyone nominates me they will be in for a disappointment, no way am I downing a pint of anything and putting a video of it on facebook.

Its just idiotic, I've seen a few of the videos, do you need to do something silly as well (as if downing a pint isn't silly enough) a few I've seen have been naked.

Yes Lady a lot of mine are farmers but then so are a lot of my friends.

Slainte · 02/02/2014 08:35

I think there were two deaths related to this in Ireland yesterday. It's a ridiculous drinking game which has gone way too far.

louloutheshamed · 02/02/2014 08:38

It started off with a group of 'rugby lad' types from uni but now it has spread. This morning there are videos of some of my school friends doing it.

One is a hospital dr and the other is a primary teacher.

I really hope they have good privacy settings...

Ladyflip · 02/02/2014 08:42

Haha yes Monet, and he's not the type to be downing drinks dressed in a silly outfit, film it and put it on FB. At least not now, although I'm informed this sort of thing was de rigeur when at agricultural college even if that was 20 years ago before FB recorded your stupidity forever

poorbuthappy · 02/02/2014 08:43

We are a very social group in our village and support our local pubs and have quite a few parties.
But I can state quite categorically that we are too old to do this! Or sensible.
Christ what a thought.
Sensible. Shock

BrianButterfield · 02/02/2014 08:45

I dunno, if people think it seems like fun, leavr them to it. I'm slightly jealous that there is no time in my day when necking a pint of anything (well, maybe coffee) would be appropriate or even possible - it would be nice I be care/responsibility-free enough to try it! I can't imagine anyone dies from one pint, surely?

ballroomblitz · 02/02/2014 08:51

Brian it's a pint of various drinks mixed together. The one I saw on my fb was a pint of spirits mixed with guinness. Stupid feckers.

LoopyDoopyDoo · 02/02/2014 08:53

I don't understand how you can die from downing a pint

LoopyDoopyDoo · 02/02/2014 08:54

oooh a mixed pint. That's different

MaddestOfTheHatters · 02/02/2014 09:01

I can't wait for my nomination.
I imagine there will be vast disappointment when I upload a video of me making light work of a pint of milk Grin

It's not just a pint though. It's mainly the spirits that go in them that's the problem. Downing a pint that is mostly spirits is definitely enough to kill some people or at the very least give them alcohol poisoning.

Though apparently you run the risk of food poisoning too as I saw one the other day which consisted largely of raw egg, tuna and vodka Confused

louloutheshamed · 02/02/2014 09:13

And it's in the context of an unhealthy drinking context. My friends doing it last night (teacher and dr) were clearly already pissed before they downed it. Everyone in the background was whooping and cheering. I felt like I'd gone back in time 10 years...

OP posts:
louloutheshamed · 02/02/2014 09:14

Culture not second context!!

I have just seen a fb video of my 16 year old grandson and his friends doing this with nauseating coktails including milk, beer, brandy, cheese, spices and herbs. His parents don't know. I am going to tell them this morning I think though I am nervous about it. He added me as fb friend when he was younger and I think he has forgotten. Neither of his parents are on fb.

Smoorikins · 02/02/2014 09:30

Ive just seen me that included listerene, hand cream, tuna, a green teabag, cod liver oil capsules and more. God I hope my kids friends don't get into this.

MrsPennyapple · 02/02/2014 09:36

This must be what SIL was talking about the other day, in relation to her uni age stepson. She seemed to think it was all a big giggle. I read the thing about the Irish DJ but didn't make the connection until just now.

Are none of these people capable of saying "er, no, that's stupid."?

YouStayClassySanDiego · 02/02/2014 09:50

I asked ds if he realised how dangerous it could be.

He just shrugged and had a meh look about him.

He actually said ' it was just the one, you know' and looked at me like Hmm

AndThatsWhatIThinkOfYou · 02/02/2014 09:55

the worst one iv seen was someone pissing in a glass and downing it, safe to say they got unfriended!!

MeepMeepVrooooom · 02/02/2014 09:55

My 54 year old Dad has done it. It's just a joke and meant as a bit of a laugh. It's one drink not a barrel of beer y'know?

In saying that, I was nominated. I didn't do it. I'm not daft enough to let someone film me doing stupid things Grin

If you don't like them, don't watch.
