to want to try coke just once?

I'm nearing a significant and have a bit of a bucket list.
This is one thing that I'm considering.
Sourcing it shouldn't be a problem.
I've tried softer drugs in my midtwenties, but am now just got a yearning to give it a go in a very controlled environment. But and a little bit concerned about the aftermath.
AIBU to be thinking like this?

bodygoingsouth · 21/01/2014 11:41

my older kids are in their 20s and think drugs are boring and stupid for boring and stupid people.

my teen dds are the same.

I am amazed at some of the childish showing off responses on here, I sincerely hope you arnt parents.

WeddingComingUp · 21/01/2014 11:41

Op are you maybe mixing up a 'bucket list' with things you wish you'd done when young and you could get away with it?

It may seem bizarre to some but I 'wish' I had been a bit more promiscuous when I was late teens. I've only ever slept with two men, one being DH. When I hear friends discussing funny, bizarre, embarrassing past experiences I wish I had a few more to share myself.

It's not something that's on my bucket list now though...I have no real desire to go out and shag a load of randoms!

gordyslovesheep · 21/01/2014 11:43

MDMA I didn't like at all - made me jumpy and panicked - I used to take coke and speed in my 20's - now and then - I liked them - I liked staying up all night dancing and talking shit

I am neither stupid or a 'druggie' - I will explain to my children the risks and dangers of drug use and expect the to make choices based on facts.

I have the occasional drink now - that is all since I started ttc 12 years ago

OP You are welcome to add what you like to your list - you wont find everyone likes it but it's your list so it's your choice

FreudiansSlipper · 21/01/2014 11:43

why do you think people are showing off they are being honest it is a discussion about drug taking

should i lie and say that it was awful (i have mentioned the come downs) and that i became addicted and ended up ruining my life (which did not happen) or that i only took it because i was unhappy (again another lie)

NigellasDealer · 21/01/2014 11:43

If you want to have a druggy laugh for one night, I would get something that can be homegrown or home-synthesised, with a relatively short supply chain
yes do some hand picked mushrooms from wales, no victims there, except maybe some deprived sheep.

gordyslovesheep · 21/01/2014 11:46

Exactly Freudian it's just honesty - I have already discussed with my eldest 2 the effects of drugs - FFS people wouldn't take them if they didn't like the way it makes you feel.

I think telling kids drugs are awful and if you take them you end up dead has no effect - if they take them, feel great and don't die it kind of makes you a big liar and invalidates your opinion

Facts - information and giving your children the ability to make their own risk assessments are better imho

WeddingComingUp · 21/01/2014 11:47

my older kids are in their 20s and think drugs are boring and stupid for boring and stupid people

I must say though...as a parent that's what you would think. It's what my mum would say about me, still, at 27.
For the most part it's true...I do think drugs are a waste of time and it's not something I would ever try now. BUT I've tried coke twice, speed once and once had a few sips of a friends drink that had 'something' in (still don't know what that something was but it tasted disgusting!). All in my late teens, all which were 'nice' at the time but not something I got particularly involved in.

Those experiences are not something I'd discuss with my mum though!

Beeyump · 21/01/2014 11:48

'It's so true, in my opinion, that drugs are taken by people who are discontent in some way.'

Actually, I am a muppet and going to disagree with my own statement Confused I took mood altering substances because I was discontent and unhappy, I can't speak for anyone else.

Sigh at self.

gordyslovesheep · 21/01/2014 11:53

I am 43 - my mum still thinks I 'only took coke once to try it' ! I hated smoking all though my teens and complained (as only a know all teen can) about smokers and their selfish behaviour - I then smoked from aged 19 to aged 40 !

Hullygully · 21/01/2014 11:53

Of course try it if you want

Wtf do you think is going to happen...?

WhatAPallava · 21/01/2014 11:56

Speed is awful. "Cheap man's charlie". I tried it a couple of times and hated. My heart and mind were racing, couldn't calm down and kept hearing voices etc!

Agree with the majority about coke. It really is nothing special. Just makes you feel more confident like you can say what you want and act how you feel. And talk utter utter crap. Like the next day oh my god I can't believe I said that crap. I think people talk more crap on coke than alcohol.

I took a lot of ecstacy when I was in my late teens and I loved it (not going to lie). Everything is so euphoric, loved everybody, had some very fun times. Come downs were awful though and horrible swinging jaw that won't stop.

I wouldn't dream of taking drugs since I've become a parent. The risk is not worth it. One dodgy batch could do anything. When I think back to my teenage years I genuinely can't believe how fearless I was.

gordyslovesheep · 21/01/2014 12:05

When I think back to my teenage years I genuinely can't believe how fearless I was oh totally - it's the thing that scares me most given i have 3 girls - one is almost 13! - the ext 12 years are going to involve a lot of sleepless nights!

I don't think I have ever said just "Stupid!" On here but I am saying it now.

AmberLeaf · 21/01/2014 12:22

You might get a 'taste' for it.

You will probably enjoy it. You might have a bad reaction to it, though that is more likely if you do too much of it.

I agree with whoever it was that said saying 'drugs are bad' and telling stories of horrible experiences as though that is what is guaranteed to happen, isn't good advice. bad stuff can happen, but many people have a good time using drugs without any problems. If they weren't enjoyable people wouldn't do them.

Better to be honest IMO.

happybubblebrain · 21/01/2014 12:22

Drugs are a big fake - bear that in mind if you take it and see if you still enjoy it.

mouldyironingboard · 21/01/2014 12:26

Why don't you add something worthwhile to your bucket list instead?

If you want to feel high I suggest doing a parachute jump for charity. The adrenaline rush it would give you is much better than any drug.

Alifelivedforwards · 21/01/2014 12:30

I have committed the ultimate MN crime of not reading the whole thread...but wanted to ask those of you that did E's/coke when young (I did too)...is it better to tell the truth to your kids or lie?

I'm not sure.

I totally agree with those who say you will alienate your kids if you react with horror and bang on about 'druggies' or instant addiction when the subject comes up - and that they will soon realise drugs are fun and on the whole safe if they do take them - but I'm worried telling them we've done them is giving them the green light.

NigellasDealer · 21/01/2014 12:31

I have seen it being made - not very pleasant
oh hell yeh i saw that on some Stacey Dooley program - it was a bit of en eye opener!
I do like SD she seems to be able to get people to trust her v quickly and explains things simply without being patronising.

FluffyHen · 21/01/2014 12:38

I'm from the UK living in Brazil and volunteer at local orphanges, so many kids here have had their lives destroyed by the drugs trade. I see or hear about drug related crime weekly. Really, I had no idea how bad things were until I came out here...

isn't there something better you can spend your money on.

Damnautocorrect · 21/01/2014 12:41

If drugs didn't make you feel good people wouldn't get addicted??

MalcolmTuckersMistress · 21/01/2014 12:43

I tried coke once and it was pretty shit. No different to drinking red bull really!

I used to smoke the odd spliff when I was younger but that's about it. Never touched E because I was too terrified it would kill me! Drugs really aren't that great.

WhatAPallava · 21/01/2014 12:56

Haha Nigella i was going to ask that poster are you Stacey Dooley ;-)

Belize · 21/01/2014 13:00

I loved E's in my 20's and 30's. Very loved up, euphoric, ecstatic feeling - horrible afterwards and life didn't feel worth living. Spent 2 years of my life doing nothing else.

Sort of get the wish I'd tried coke thing as I never did but never would now as I have three children.

The whole moral debate over cocaine would completely stop any attraction for me to it though it has to be said. I think most of us aren't quite so conscientious when we are younger though.

NigellasDealer · 21/01/2014 13:05

ha whatapallava maybe it is Stacey!! STAYCEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! are you there my lovely??? Grin
