To have caused a fuss in library ??!

I had to pop to the local library this morning to print some important docs out, as we don't have a printer. They have 6 computers, and then about 12 in their computer training room, although there was a class going on so those ones could not be used.

The 6 were all taken up; some guy looked like he was searching a job site (good on him), some other guy was reading large documents, not sure about 2 others, but then there was a girl (about 24ish) and a lad (probably a little older) sat just scrolling through Facebook, and blatantly daydreaming! There was a queue for the computers and I know some locals who do visit every day to carry out job searches etc.

Anyway, I couldn't help myself, and asked the guy on the desk why it was right for people to have to wait for a computer, for productive purposes, while people are sat wasting their lives on Social Networking, when maybe they should be taking a leaf out of the other guys' book and searching the job sites?

It really gets my back up as I'm a huge believer that you need to work hard in life. I had a chat with the lady on the other desk and she was in total agreement with me that the use of SN sites should be banned from these computers - I have written my complaint to the Council Angry

Each and everyone of you who have replied have stated to be (or seemingly appeared) non-judgement, no pre-conceptions etc, which I admire and gather some of you are, yet you can't tell me you don't pre-conceive somebody?

No, I don't tend to judge a book by its cover, but again, around my way, you can usually see that an awful lot of people don't work, maybe no fault of their own, maybe they just don't want to, but it is easy to take a fair guess...

As for 'lazy', this word can be defined in different ways, and people will use it in different contexts.

For the poster who suggested I 'work harder' to enable me to buy a printer, or something like I mustn't have worked hard enough (something along those lines!) then I suggest you try getting up at the crack of dawn, doing up to four stage (dance) shows a day, then rehearsing inbetween, 7 days a week - NO day off, not finishing your last show until 11pm and then having to hostess at this time of night - Yeah, maybe I need to work harder huh? Lady - I wouldn't exactly say that remembering somebody's face can be classed as stalking jeez woman!!

When were you doing that op?

AvonCallingBarksdale · 16/01/2014 16:30

Why, what do you do? Lapdancer? Buy your own printer and MYOB! It's a public library. Clue being in the title.

TheRealCarrieBradshaw · 16/01/2014 16:32

Right, if the couple had been (for instance) the ginger bird and her fella from Benefits St - clearly didn't want to work, sat in the library checking or playing on Facebook, then there was an older man (think he was about 40ish) waiting to use a comp to job search, tell me you'd still have your same opinions then ???! No chance!

You don't need to work harder. You simply need to be bothered to buy a printer. They're about 20 to 30 quid. If you have a job, you can probably get one.

Avon - Ha ha now who's pre-judging?! Lapdancer, I wish, as I wouldn't have been working for buttons, and I wouldn't have trained professionally and taught - Cabaret my friend; the cruise ship kind!

UncleT · 16/01/2014 16:34

Ah, so you do work doing that now or you don't? You're kind of all over the place here OP.

TheRealCarrieBradshaw · 16/01/2014 16:35

Whisk, I'm bored now, yes! And I'm only replying to others' posts. I asked if I was BU and I've had my answers, but it's you lot that continue to post Wink

TheRealCarrieBradshaw · 16/01/2014 16:36

UncleT - Jesus Christ read the full thread! No, I used to do this, have not danced professionally for years, I was referring to somebody suggesting I do not know what hard work is, Simples Wink

TantrumsAndBalloons · 16/01/2014 16:37

I thought you were not working ATM OP?

Hence you being in the library and noticing all the scruffy unemployed in your village?

AlpacaPicnic · 16/01/2014 16:37

I've got scrappy trainers on today.
I've got bright blue hair.
I've got a tattoo even though you can't see it under my thermal vest funky top.

I'm also running the public library I work in.
If you had complained to me about people using the computers for SN sites I woukd have said what everybody else here has already said. First come, first served.

And FWIW I would have asked you not to cause a fuss because you might be distracting or upsetting other customers.

TheRealCarrieBradshaw · 16/01/2014 16:37

Uncle - Again, re a job? Please read the thread - the reason I am currently not working (and hating it!) is circumstantial

"around my way"

Are you Jeremy Kyle?

You can buy a printer online, if you're saying that you don't have time to go and get one. HTH. xx

PrimroseLodge · 16/01/2014 16:38

Op, in answer to your question yabu.

Based on what you've written on the first and last page of this thread you also need a personality transplant.

TheRealCarrieBradshaw · 16/01/2014 16:38

Alpaca - WTF has your blue hair and tattoo's got to do with this thread ??!! Ha ha, I have 7 tat's and red hair, any relevance ?!? Hmm

OP posts:
TantrumsAndBalloons · 16/01/2014 16:38

No one said you didn't know what hard work is.

It was suggested that as you cannot afford a printer you should work harder right now.

And I judge you for using the word simples. And I don't care Grin

NCISaddict · 16/01/2014 16:39

I'm not sure how you decide if someone is working or not,is there a special look or uniform that non-workers wear to go to the library?

SilverApples · 16/01/2014 16:39

No, my opinion wouldn't change depending on the characters involved. It really wouldn't.
It was their turn on the computer, not yours. Queuing is The English Way.
Why didn't you ask them if you could queue-jump? You could have made new friends.

UncleT · 16/01/2014 16:39

Not really, because when you say "yeah I should work harder" or whatever the exact words were in the present tense, but are in fact citing examples from the distant past, you create confusion and inconsistencies - regardless of what you already wrote.

As for why people keep posting, could be because you pretty obviously still think you're right, even though the whole world disagrees.

Dawndonnaagain · 16/01/2014 16:39

Oh good grief, she's a dancer.

TheRealCarrieBradshaw · 16/01/2014 16:40

Tantrums - Yeah, think I agree with you there re 'simples' Hmm I'm not usually a fan of the 'LOLs' and the like so I don't think I'll use that one again!
