to want to throw shit at this woman?

BunnyLebowski · 09/01/2014 16:26

Got your attention? Good. Obviously I don't really plan to throw poo at her.

We live opposite a small green that we used to walk across on the school run.

Recently it has been covered in dog turds Hmm.

Just now from my bedroom window I saw a woman come out of her house directly across from me (the green is between us iyswim) with a fat labrador not on a lead who then proceeded to crap in two different spots on the green while she looked on.

She then called it over and they went back in the house Angry

The green is used by kids after school and by families waiting for buses.

I appreciate this is a one off and I can't know for sure that her dog is responsible for all the shits but why the hell should she be allowed to use a public area as a dog toilet?

If I see her do the same again I am going to confront her. Is that unreasonable of me? Surely not.

If someone isn't able to pick up their dog's crap from a communal village green, they should a) find someone else to walk their dog who is able or b) not have the animal.

It sounds like this dog needs a walker as well, if it is very overweight. It doesn't sound like she is able to take proper care of it.

And yes there do need to be more bins. Maybe it would stop the charmer who is posting their dog's crap into my wheelie bin every so often.

ComposHat · 09/01/2014 18:22

I had a German Sheppard shite on the lawn yesterday.

Today the dirty bastard bought his dog with him.

Joules68 · 09/01/2014 18:28

She needs reporting, no doubts about that!

BUT

Do you all really walk your kids to school over greens/fields in school shoes? Or do they change?

Tulip26 · 09/01/2014 18:30

Hester what's wrong with using someone's bin if it's left by the street? Don't you dare say it smells as it's not exactly going in your living room, is it? I bet the rubbish you throw out smells of fresh baked bread and roses.

Would you rather I left it on your doorstep or front garden rather than use your bin? I will always endevour to pick up after my dog but if there are no public bins, don't expect me to carry it miles home.

Joules DD wears boots like these to school and keeps them on. Obviously I don't want them covered in crap.

We now walk around the green sticking to the pavement. I'm not risking it anymore.

Glad you all agree (a unanimous AIBU - who knew it was possible!).

Will update tomorrow.

Tulip26 there is plenty wrong with using my bin as a dog turd depositor without my permission. I don't want the stomach-churning whiff of shit every time I open the lid. No, I would not rather you left it on my doorstep. As for telling me what I dare say and dare not say....well, fuck off! I can say what I like to people who leave their animal's shit on/in other people's property, which I take it you do, as you seem rather defensive about my post.

It's your dog - you take its crap home and deal with it in your bin.

Tulip26 · 09/01/2014 18:49

Hester so you've never put nappies, old food or anything at all smelly in your bin then? Doggy dos don't really smell if they're bagged up.

Tulip26 · 09/01/2014 18:51

And yes, I will use whatever bin is nearest. Surely that's better than leaving it lying around? If you don't like it, move your bin.

BunnyLebowski · 09/01/2014 18:56

I have to agree with Hester. I think putting your poo bags in someone else's bin is a bit cheeky.

The end point of your walk is your house, save it for your own bin.

One thing I think that would make everyone's life easier would be for more councils to install poop bins, or at least MORE bins in general. People don't have any excuse then for not doing the needful.

Some people don't need an excuse to be antisocial twats. I have seen an owner standing by, watching his dog do a shit next to one of these bins, and walk off without picking up. Angry

DownstairsMixUp · 09/01/2014 18:59

I agree with Bunny though people just use my front garden instead! Angry

HesterShaw · 09/01/2014 19:06

No I have never put nappies in my bin, on account of not having children. However I have put my cat's litter in the bin, in a good strong bin bag, along with the rubbish This does not mean I want any passing dog walker to fling in their pooch's poo in a flimsy little bag without my knowledge or permission into the bottom of my bin, meaning that when I go and put something heavy in my bin, the said flimsy bags burst, smearing foul smelling dog shit over the interior.

I have changed many a babies' nappy however, and I can safely say that the stench is not on the same level.

Your dog - your bin.

HesterShaw · 09/01/2014 19:08

If you don't like it move you bin.

It appears that you think that not enjoying your dog's crap is other people's problem, rather than your own. No I won't move my bin. That is where it goes. I don't go putting my rubbish in other people's bins. I put it in my own, or a public one.

Toecheese · 09/01/2014 19:09

Collect the poo and post it through her door

Marylou2 · 09/01/2014 19:50

Our council has posters saying "There's no such thing as the dog poo fairy" perhaps post one through her door?

WhatAFeline · 09/01/2014 19:58

It is very difficult for dog wardens to obtain enough evidence to sanction people who do not pick up after their dog. However, they are always grateful for information that may help them to address this anti social behaviour.

Our wardens ask for as much info as possible such as:

Description of dog.
Description of owner.
Address of owner.
Time incident spotted.
Location of incident.
Any info about regularity of it happening.

This is so that they can direct their meagre resources to surveillance, they can only secure a conviction if they actually see the dog poo and the owner leave it.

OP if you see it happen again, pictures forwarded to your local dog warden team with the info above will be gratefully received.

KongKickeroo · 09/01/2014 20:05

I live by a similar green.

If you have a small child, the next time you see it happen, pick up child, fling open the window and boom out in your best Performance Parenting voice "LOOK! A DOGGIE! DOGGIE DID POO POO! MUMMY SAW!" Then smile, point and wave maniacally.

I may or may not have done this recently with excellent results Grin

WhatAFeline · 09/01/2014 20:06

I'm one of a group of mums that got fed up with the amount of dog mess in our neighbourhood. We organised a petition to the council, asking them to review the resource that they spent on dog fouling. We did a FOI request about the costs of dog mess cleanup compared with the cost of providing additional bins.

The outcome was that we have a good relationship with our dog warden and street teams at the council. They introduced dog mess reporting by text, and will clean it up within 24 hours. They use the number of reports to help them deploy their wardens where there is a known issue. They put temporary painted signs on the pavement and warnings that covert surveillance takes place. Their convictions have increased and our neighbourhood is better, although not perfect.

If any MNers know of cost neutral or low cost successful ways to tackle dog fouling, I would love to hear about it.

Mintyy · 09/01/2014 20:08

You should have taken photos. I would have no problem in picking up a couple of turds from the green (in a nappy sack of course!!!) and posting them through her letter box with a note attached.

FryOneFatManic · 09/01/2014 20:22

There is no way I would be happy about someone putting their dog's shit in my bin, bagged or not. Most of the bags people use round here are flimsy anyway, and why should I have to put up with the disgusting stench? Or have to clean the bin out because someone didn't carry their dog shit home like other people do, or drop it into the public bins specially for that purpose.

MidniteScribbler · 09/01/2014 22:50

Set up a video camera outside your front window to film them. Start a youtube channel putting up footage of everyone who leaves their dogs crap in the park. Put notices up all over town showing the link to your site.

DownstairsMixUp · 09/01/2014 22:54

I only have a phone camera :( Would love to set up a camera at my front window to film, would need to work in the dark though as it's always when i wake in the mornings there is poo in the garden. Really feel your pain OP it is driving me nuts!

Lilacroses · 09/01/2014 23:00

Absolutely vile op, yanbu at all. Make sure she is reported and charged. I am a huge dog fan and people like this make me sick.

Jimjamatron · 09/01/2014 23:09

You could print out one of these posters. Saw a few of them around Edinburgh over Christmas.
